  1. Thats really pretty...more ideas to try with my soy. Sally.
  2. Lovely looking candles. Ditto Eugenia on the levelling, it's by far the easiest way to level pillar bottoms, perfect results every time. Just remember to leave the mould seal in place or you may find the candle slips out of the mould while you're trying to level it...ask me how I know!
  3. I like them a lot, great job, I think I'll have a try when I get some jars in. I've done simliar with p.w pillars, cones & star moulds with varying degrees of success but I haven't dyed any of my soy yet. Nice jars too. Sally.
  4. I don't use a para/soy blend myself but I always thought tunneling was caused by the wick being too small for the diameter of the candle. As for the throw could that also be a wick thing? I've read a few posts on here about wick size affecting throw too. Sally.
  5. I don't know what you are paying for your wax over in the states but here in the UK we have only 2 main suppliers of soy wax & neither are " cheap". It seems that most everyone else who sell the wax get it from the same suppliers & then charge even more. Fair enough as we all want to make a living but it makes it sooooo expensive to buy a small amount for testing & right now I've run out of pillar blend, my washing machine's just died, my son's just moved back to Edinburgh to start work & won't get paid for a while so all my savings have gone to help him through. So all in all not a good day & I'm desperate to get more wax & oils & perfect my pillars. I'm wondering if I'll ever be able to get my business up & running at this rate. Sorry for the rant but you all have my sympathy. I love making candles but why oh why does it all cost so much!!!!!!! Sally.
  6. They all look lovely. Good luck with your farmers markets & your plans. Sally.
  7. Lovely site Bev, the jars look great packaged in those crates. I too have been looking at ideas to package jars, now have another to add to my list. Sally.
  8. I've tried the soap & hot water, mineral spirits & scrap wax & still have the occasional black mark appear on a candle, even after the moulds have been used several times. So if anyone has a foolproof method I too would love to know. Sally.
  9. OOOOO pretty colours, what wax are you using? Sally.
  10. Wow that all looks amazing. I'd love to work in a space as organised & well stocked as that, unfortunately my kitchen just doesn't come anywhere close!!!! Sally.
  11. Great looking pillars & burning beautifully. Thanks for showing us Top.
  12. Unexpectedly got a table in the craft fair at Glamis Castle this w.e. Am hoping to sell lots of my painted glass & paraffin wax candles to fund my soy habit.
  13. I don't use palm wax but I did have that happen a few times when I was using paraffin wax (an un-named variety). It's not happened since I switched to soy. I never did figure out why it happened tho' so I too would like to be enlightened. Sally.
  14. Both sets look gorgeous, I'd be very happy to test them for you. sally.
  15. Thanks Vicky, I'm thinking of getting a globe made with the continents in relief so there wont be any especially delicate areas, not sure if a globe can be made in silicone but I'm going to ask Janet. Sally.
  16. Does anyone use soy pillar blend in silicone/latex moulds? Would adding CB to PB help make it less brittle so easier to get out of the mould, or would beeswax be a better addition? I'd like to know if it's possible before I try to get a mould made for me ( I'd rather not use a two part mould.) TIA Sally.
  17. Thank you so much, I'll look into getting help from Janet. Am now getting ideas for another range of candles....dont you just love the way ideas evolve, I get so inspired by people here. Sally.
  18. Sorry that's a terrible description.... I have seen candles, ball shaped but with the continents in relief around the ball. I'm guessing they would be made in some kind of flexible rubber mould. Hope that new description helps. Sally.
  19. Does anyone know if there's any supplier/s selling earth shaped rubber moulds? not just plain balls shapes I'm sure I've seen earth shaped candles on a website somewhere but as usual I've lost it, however I've not found earth/globe moulds anywhere. Also can you use these type of rubber moulds with soy pillar wax? TIA. Sally.
  20. I strayed into the B&B sections yesterday......oh dear, I think I need my blinkers back on! Sally.
  21. Hi Lynn, Thanks for the suggestions. I'm not planning on doing lightbulbs as well as the candles, mainly because they are only made for the UK electric system so I wouldn't be able to send them internationally. I may well include a range of hand painted glass candle holders so including craft in the heading is a great idea. I've talked about the globe thing in an earlier post & I like to think I'd be able to sell globally too. Perhaps I need to find a globe style round mould & have a play with it, I haven't made them before tho I think I've seen earth style candles on a web site somewhere. Hmmm I wonder if I can find it again. Lots more ideas to think about thank you all for your input. Sally.
  22. SoapInTheCity & HeavenScentU...there will be a slogan along the lines of "sending light around the world" or something similar. Beth-VT.. I like the watermark idea. Scented..lovely idea, not sure if my neice can do flash yet but we'll keep that one for the future. Meredith D..like the flame dot too. Thank you all, I'll be sharing these ideas & hopefully more with my neice over the w.e. Sally.
  23. Thanks for the great ideas so far, please keep em coming. Sally.
  24. My lovely neice is doing a web design course & has to make a website for a small business so she's kindly doing it for me. I'll be selling soy containers, pillars & tarts, mostly undyed. I also paint glass & lightbulbs & make brightly coloured window clings, & have always been known as Chiara Crafts. Chiara is Italian for light/clear so I've been told...if it's not I've been telling folk the wrong thing for years, anyway I want to keep the Chiara & add Candles. Here's the logo we've come up with so far, with different fonts to experiment with. I'd really appreciate any comments /feedback on the designs so far. We're in the very early stages of the whole process & want to get it really good for both my neices course & my new business. Oh & we both have fairly broad backs! TIA for your input. Sally.
