  1. Coffee and chocolate scents tend to be heavier too I noticed.
  2. I like the CD's and Eco's they give a good burn and they run about the same in size. Sometimes I double wick with HTP's but the bending makes more work for me to turn them the directions I want them to burn. I don't use parasoy.
  3. Suds I took a peek in your website. I saw your soaps. Did you use PVC piping for that?
  4. Hi Jen, It might actually be easier for you to just add a fraction of paraffin. Otherwise you are just adding a fraction less than 3 oz of paraffin and more soy. It might be cheaper too. Everybody has their preference to wicks. Some mushroom, some don't, some bend. The only way to find your preference is to order sample packs of each type of wick. Zinc is generally used in paraffin but some people like to use them. I basically read everything about each wick. Then followed other posts to see what people preferred and what each wick was used for. Then I decided to try all of them myself. Also just because the chart says that wick is used for a certain diameter doesn't mean its the same for all jars. You have to test your wicks to find the proper size. The easy part sometimes is stabilizing the wax. Its finding the right size wick for each candle that is the pain. Every fragrance burns differently with the same size wick too. Of you have to measure the melt pool, if its burning to hot or not hot enough. Now the fun begins. Make sure you also document all your wicking and fragrances and burn times.
  5. Hey everyone I actually make candles and post on the other boards. My husband and I went to a farmers market last year and tried some hand made soap. We never trusted a store bought bar again. So we decided to try and make our own. We used some recipes off of Millers website. Being that it was in the beginning of winter and my husband tried to make it in a cold garage didn't help any. Then we used PVC pipe. Its not easy at all that way. The soap we did get out of the tubes expanded the minute they hit the air, due to the interior temperatures hitting air. It wasn't worth using the tubes. But the amount that we did get out was a good soap. Not good looking but a great recipe. I saw a couple of Grumpy Girls pics and it inspired me. I do want to know for those of you that do use the glycerin base do you make yours or order it. I know its a special process with alcohol and it involves a lot more. Do you all just do CP or do you do MP too?
  6. Its Aluminum that is a NO! NO!. Stainless is used for everything because it is a non corrosive metal.
  7. I just found Tranquil breezes on a sight called www.FlyingWitchFragrances.com/ but I was having trouble posting a payment method so I have to call them tomorrow. They didn't have Romantic Bouquet though. I wore Tranquil Breezes on my honeymoon so It reminds me of when I first got married.
  8. If you are lucky enough to find that one I would love to find Tranquil Breezes by VS. They sat next eachother on the shelves. I use to wear all of those. Gosh, I miss their old lines. Now everything mostly smells like the tropics. I love endless love and Serindipity but I miss their florals. VC discontinued those scents about 8 years ago. So imagine how hard it will be to find it.
  9. I purchased Buttercream from Natures Garden and loved it. It smelled just like Yankee's and especially added to Soy it accentuated the fragrance even more. I used it up just for my husband because he loves that particular one and he burns it in his office. I ran out and wasn't making a big order from NG but I was ordering a ton of wicks from Lonestar so I decided to try their Buttercream. Their Birthday Cake is pretty good. But their Buttercream is weak. I had three different people smell the candle and smell oob and they all agreed it wasn't as strong as NG's. Sometimes I do believe the phrase "If it ain't broke don't fix it" I should have stuck with something I know works. Now I am stuck with a weak fragrance and I have to order another bottle from NG. How stupid I was to assume I would like it and not try a sample first. My husband did that with Mac Apple. He ordered a pound without a sample and that bottle doesn't throw in soy for me to save my life. So I will try Granny smith next time. Only a sample.
  10. So we three agree that it has a burnt smell? Come to think of it I have been burning a Chocolate kiss double wicked soy 415 candle. I am not getting a strong FO throw from the burn. I know its a strong scent especially because its a chocolate and its from Millcreek. I haven't met a scent from there that didn't burn good. I think I will stick with the ones I am familiar with most. I am not giving my candles to someone with a burning smell. I have wicked up and down and get the same smell. I also notice they pop and sizzle when I light them.
  11. If worse comes to worse. If you are looking for big bulk. Sams and Costco do carry the big bulky size. I bought mine at costo. Same with Olive and Cannola.
  12. Geek I know what you are talking about and I am glad I am not the only one who smells it. I use the same jars. I had to wick up to a 760 because my wicks were drowing with my 740's and 750's. I threw in a little BW too. It burns perfectly but the smell is off. You smell it in the wax after it has cooled too. I tried to repour and rewick a few candles and had to throw them out because of the smell. I am now skeptical about these. I have had good luck with the CD's and ECO's with these jars. I use two HTP 104's or 105's with the 16 oz. Willing to try ECO's and CD's. I did give up on the 24 oz because I decided not to use such a big jar. On the 10 oz a CD or ECO 10 or 12 works well depending on the FO I use.
  13. I agree with Carol I haven't tested a FO from MC that I was dissatisfied with.
  14. I just purchased some sample oils and tried most of them. I did not like this place at all. When you see people posting Peaks, MC, BCN, BCS and Natures Garden who are some of the large ones they weren't exagerating when they said they were good fragrances. Those places are way stronger than JS. Plus theses places tell what scents tested well in soy and what didn't. I used plain 415 soy no additives and it just did not throw as well as the others. I even tried a bigger jars for further throw. I know everyone has their own opinion but I would rather spend the money for a strong fragrance. Their service is great but I bet their scents work better in soaps.
  15. Drakkar, Polo Cedar Leather My husband always uses vanilla Pine (an oldie) Peppermint strawberry citrus
  16. You have to make sure it isn't to perfumie for men. Maybe a fruit scent wouldn't be a bad idea. Its as metrosexual as you can get. Or trendy scent. Pear with Green Tea, Lemon Verbana, Pomegranite. I like Chai Tea it is very unique yet light. Somehow it gives me a reminder of Christmas. My husband said the same thing and he is Jewish. They also have a scent out called wedding cake.
  17. I agree with Mystical. I bought MC's over other samples and it carried the furthest. And my nose sucks! I even love it over Buttercream.
  18. I would not recommend NG Regular strawberry though. It is too sweet. Like a Daiquiri instead of the real thing. I have been curious too. I have a strawberry Yankee candle and it is very close to fresh strawberries.
  19. I read someones post who said they use a Styrofoam container over it. I am going to try that. I have to use my cold granite counter tops because it is the only level surface in my house. I know that doesn't help either. As soon as my husband helps me organize my candle room in the basement I am going to use a space heater when I work. I have all wood flooring in my house that throws off the temperature all over. My husband owns an HVAC company you think he would give me a solution.
  20. Angela I am just a frustrated with them. I ordered round labels that they only carry the size I needed. I had the template from Avery all ready to use. Then when I recieve the labels they don't fit that template for avery or any other label program I have. I have to download their template through Word or Photoshop which I have but who has the time to figure it out? Photoshop is for photo designing which I created my picture but it doesn't do any fancy words. Word just plain sucks! My husband just said forget it lets just take them in and have them done. We have a connection at a Kinkos that will do it for the same price the paper and ink cost me. I think Online Labels should work with Avery templates almost every other label company is Avery compatible. I should have read the fine print. Now I know. I wish Staples or Office Depot did carry my size.
  21. They give you so many wicks because that is all they do. They deal with mass orders. There minimum order is 1000 per size. Only the people that recieved samples know that. I finally had to call Joe and request a sample then he got them right out. Don't be a afraid to bother him. We give them the business too. They are swamped with emails that is why I called. I like how they stand up straight and don't collapse in the wax at higher pouring temps. I still have to test burn. There are so many sizes I have to figure out what to use. That will fry your brain. But If I like them enough I wouldn't mind buying in bulk.
  22. Sad to say guys my heart is not into paraffin. No disrespect to any of you I just want to keep it vegetable. I know it has to be the effects in my home because the other day I rewicked a container of 464. I think I poured it at 145 not even documenting it and the stupid thing set up without one frost mark. The one time I am not paying attention. I am talking dark purple. Jason said that is his biggest complaint for a color. I do remember my kitchen was very warm and I kept it sitting on top of a towel instead of directly on the granite top. Crystalizing is a temperature varaible with chocolate which is a hydrogenized fat itself. So It has to be that. I am not ready to give up yet until I know for sure. My husband is a HVAC owner so he is too practical to let me crank the heat so I have to wait for a hot day in my kitchen.
  23. Belle Aire is right down the road from where I live. I have contacted them. The guys name is Jeremy he is the Sales Rep.
  24. Does anyone know the most reasonably priced places to buy EO's?
  25. I have learned not to smell oob. I did that with MC's fragrances. Big difference when I put them in the wax. I talked to a chemical manufacturer. There are certain chemicals they instill in the FO's to make them adhere to the wax. Sometimes they give off an extra odor. But when combined with hot wax they evaporate with the heat. So I wait until I pour then I judge.
