  1. I use the MC 125. Its 100% soy not a blend. The Eco Advanced is a blend. Look up under both waxes in the search drop down and you can read past threads on both waxes.
  2. Has anyone tried the magnets. I just saw them the other day and was wondering if they are successful. I hate those screws but I prefer to wick my own.
  3. I can only get ecoysoya and C-3 which I am starting to notice the majority of posts complain of poor hot or cold scent throws and seepage. With that much frustration I rather take my 415 and add BW. I just have been reading people are satisfied with the 464 so far.
  4. Angela that is so sweet of you. I think what I will do is order their Cargill sample pack then I can try their votive and pillar blends its only $10.00. I can also just pick it up. I have been meaning to pick some Palm wax up from them so as long as I am there.
  5. Does anyone know who carries the cheapest prices as far as soy container blends? I keep looking and my eyes are getting crossed from so much researching.
  6. What AngelaVA said! I probably would try Golden if it was more accessable to me. Shipping kills me and right now I have the UPS guy from hell. He just dumps it off in rain or shine and leaves it there. At the moment I have Ecosoya and Cargill at my disposal. A little pricier per case. But in comparison to shipping. I just am up for grabs which one. I should just order some samples and shut up already. LOL
  7. Thanks Geek, I was measuring lastnight and kept thinking maybe if I try a little less. Just for instinct, but instead I thought no, let me try one more time. I guess they say go with the first instinct. Plus my scale measures in fractions which makes it a little harder to do percentages. I will try cloudy the next time and not slushy. For me it was cloudy at 110. I did cover it with a two gallon sterilite container, the kind you get at Menards or Target.
  8. I have been using MC's 125 for a while now. I like it, the problem is I can't get it to pour perfectly because my house is huge. So it is drafty no matter where I go which causes problems with the wax setting. My candle making room is in the basement which is completely finished so it is insulated but still chilly. My husband owns a HVAC company you think I could have this problem situated. I poured two testers lastnigt to play around. I did regular soy which I poured at 100/slushy stage. I can't go any hotter in my house or it pits. Then I decided to try beeswax. I did just 1oz per pound. I heated the jar. I tried it at the slushy stage. Again because I was afraid of sink holes. I even covered it by puttin a small storage container over it to prevent cold air from hitting it. I woke up to a pitted 100% soy and a BW soy blend with hills and valleys in it and cracks. I am getting frustrated. I will eventually be doing 100% with EO's only for vegans which I have down pat. But wish to venture out to Vegetable blends for FO's but I am getting discouraged. The only waxes I have in reach are Ecosoya and Cargill 3. But what is the point of trying them if I am going to have to zap them with a heat gun. I am trying to avoid it. I know Soy is unstable but this time its not the soys fault.
  9. Just curious exactly if anyone knows what the exact purpose of trying crisco with soy?
  10. Thanks Angela, I appreciate your feedback. Please let me know how your hot throw went.
  11. They will sell to me. She is even offering a discount on Advanced. I imagine they are trying to push the stuff now. They are offering 12, 50 pound boxes for ten dollars cheaper each box plus no S&H. I have heard just too much negative feedback on it though to jump at that.
  12. I am currenly using MC 125. Which I know of course is Golden 415. Well EcoSoya's manufacturer is just 20 minutes from where I live. It would cut me down on shipping costs considerably. I have read so much contraversy on the CB Advanced and not good either. I see more positive opinions on the regular CB 135. I am planning on ordering samples at least of each and trying each one. But I just wanted honest feed back on both waxes. I was planning on using between BCN and MC FO's. They have awesome scent throw especially when burning. I am also trying to keep it down to one pour blends.
  13. Sheila, How do you do that. I know what geek is talking about. I was using just the wicks that came with the molds to try it out at least. It does burn to one side. Do you twist the wick while it is tied before pouring?
  14. I just wanted to know if anyone has tried MC's pillar blend? And how they like it. I love how simple it is to use. I love the cold throw. A little skeptical about the hot throw though. I use a strong scent like Amaretto and Moonlight Path that are strong unlit across the room. Does soy pillar blend have as good as cold throw as this blend or a better hot throw? I love its simplicity but what good is putting scent in a candle if you cannot smell the scent when it is burning?
  15. I want to purchase some wicks for pillars. I prefer to do the wicking myself because I will not be using wick clips. So I would guess I would prefer to use either flat braided or square braided. Is there a difference. My goal is to mostly make 3" and 4" diameter pillars. With MC's vege based pillar blend and palm wax. Separately used of course.
  16. I ordered a sample of Birthday Cake FO from MC and used it in 100% soy. I love the hot throw it travels through my whole kitchen. However the cold throw is not as strong. I put the scent in approximately at 175. Has anyone noticed this?
  17. Try an aroma therapy website. Most of them have recipes for perfumes. If you look on the left in this website they list some EO' suppliers and they tend to give up some hints. I have heard in some cases premium vodka is sometimes used because it has no scent and you have an alcohol base.
  18. Guys I wasn't trying to provoke any arguments. I just mentioned a little old lady was marking her candles %100 percent and I could tell there weren't. My guess is since she works with parafin in hurricanes that she tweaked her formula. I just wanted her to say honestly if it was a blend or not, not what the precise ingredients are. It was not a soft wax in those jars. It was hard. As far as disclosing I agree with candleman. If they ask only!!! That is fair you don't have to disclose the exact amount. Walt Disney World. Has a Soap and Bath Shop in the Marketplace shops in downtown disney. You cannot get any bigger than Walt. They specialize in Cold process soaps. They have next to their products a list of each product with the ingredients on them even down to the colors they use. They write it in a way that it doesn't state exactly the percentage they use. They are not worried if someone steals their secret formula because there are so many of the same products out there, they are just confident in their marketing. They do it because the consumer feels safer using their product. Which makes them a bonafied customer. I know that is irrelavent to candles but I personally make soy because I want to contribute the best I can to our environment. I know soy is not totally perfect and some disagree. I know those who make parafin have their arguments. But that is how I feel. I know a lot of people do feel the same way and the ones who do will appreciate them. Burning candles period is not a safe choice but at least I take that little step closer. Others choose vegetable because of the scent throw or the burn rate. This is not politics its candle making. We are not chemists we are artists. Lets just enjoy our art and take pride in our work and give other artists a pat on the back and help them out when they need advise.
  19. Here is an example. There is a soy or soy based candle out there that they say you can use on your skin while warmed. Well that candle company has to get FDA approval because it then falls under a pharmaceutical catagory for skin care. So they have to list every ingredient for allergin reasons. Or else they can turn around and be sued if they have a customer who dies from anaphalaxis. (Yes that is possible) I myself am allergic to some petroleum bases. That is why I do not use paraffin. I like to know what I am dealing with. As a consumer myself I want to know. We take our chances buying parafin because it is derived from a fossil fuel source. But we know whats in it at least. But when we are told 100% I demand as a paying consumer buying that product to get what I pay for. If I decide to use a blend I will at least have the consideration to say soy candles but just that, not 100%. If the consumer wants to know then they can ask exactly how much is soy. There is a difference between marketing and false advertising. I am not trying to knock any of you guys. It was merely an observation at a craft show. Plus I disagree there is a difference between organic and natural. Organic- (relating to or derived from living things-such as plant life) involving, producing, or dealing in foods produced without the use of laboratory-made fertililizers, growth substances, antibiotics, or pesticides. Natural- not artificial, of or relating to nature. These are from Websters! Making an all soy candle even if botanicals are added plus EO's is natural because they are all derived from a plant. Yes it crosses the line of organic. But as far as the wax goes it is derived from a plant source. The EO's are a plant source. That is sometimes good enough for people. I also agree alot of these premium candle do mislead and use FO's while stating its all natural. Slatskin and Votivo are big examples they don't even state what kind of wax at all they are made of on the packaging. Lets just all be grateful how creative we are and how much we like scents. That is the key. This isn't a political debate. You all are creative individuals who take pride in what you do.
  20. Is anyone ever curious what exactly is in these soy blends? I have been using nothing but 100% but I am curious if I could venture out into trying to establish my own blend. Or is it just easier to stick with the manufactured blends. I want want to keep 100% for EO's for genuine naturalists. But willing to try a blend if it makes it look professional, as long as it is all vegetable. I was looking at Beeswax and Palm Stearic. Two big companies were just confusing me more with the use of Palm Stearic and soy. Does it or doesn't it hold the sent better? Or is Beeswax better. The funny part is I went to a craft show this weekend and found this booth of candles. This lady made the most beautiful hurricanes I have ever seen. Then she had the soy candle display. Barely any scent throw. She advertised 100% soy wax. I went to open the tops and knew rightaway it was not 100%. She had no frost lines what so ever. Especially in the dark colors. The tops were smoothly poured. I know we can come as close as possible but this was to obvious. I just wish they would at least change their word tactics like "Made with soy" or "All natural Soy blend".
  21. I ordered my wax a long time ago from Millcreek. No problem with that. Only curiosity is they don't use soy pillar blends. Second I decided to order more wicks from them well. I ordered last week. They just put the order through two days ago. Then UPS took another two day to deliver. I hope they are not that slackish with standard orders. They supply businesses and they take longer than four days just to dispatch it. I had phenominal business from the jar store and that was an order over 200lbs. I also ordered some sample scents. I wasn't that impressed with the some of the scents compared to Natures Garden. I have a deviated septum which kind prevents me from smelling faint smells. (The irony and here I make candles, lol) So I demand strong scents. I do know BCN,BCS, Candlesciene and MC all receive their FO's from the same supplier. Because I live right near the manufacturer. But they only sell in large quantities. It is just so frustrating to keep jumping around from place to place to find that perfect throw and financially consuming.
  22. I use Pyrex measuring cups the giant ones instead of the metal pitures because I can remelt my soy in the Microwave if it stiffens to much. Plus the oils don't stick to the glass as much when washing out. Then I go to the dollar store and buy the cheap plastic spoons that look like wooden spoons but are heat reisistant. They rinse off great. Target has their dollar bins where I bought my thermometers for a buck! They are accurate too! I go to all the craft stores and check their clearance aisle too. Plus I bought an electric turkey fryer that holds about 60-80 pounds of wax and has a built in spout for pouring and a thermostat. I could go on.
  23. Jennie, I did get some of my oils at Costco and Sam's Club. I don't know what they have in Nebraska. I found Soybean Oil, Vegetable shortning, and Olive oil. But I got my Lye at Home Depot. It was labeled Sodium Hydroxide and Drain cleaner instead of Lye. So I didn't have to order it. The only oils I had to order were the palm oil and coconut oil. But it saved me a lot on olive oil because that is the expensive one. If this info helps any.
  24. You know what angers me? Look at this sight and click on to candles and check out their prices in bulk. Even if they are not scented they are nice looking candles. Even the favors are a steal. What is this candle manufacturers overhead? http://sunriseglobalinc.com/
  25. I love this pillar blend. Thank you for your link
