  1. It's a beauty. Love that pattern and color. Peach is a great a scent. Now for the big question. Are you going to save it or burn it? Almost too pretty to burn.
  2. Not bad, Mark. And yes you level the top on a hot surface just like you would level a pillar bottom. Some put a cookie sheet on top of their double boiler. I use an electric griddle to level my candles. Just turn the 'cane top side down and twirl until you have the top like you want. I have a small level that I use to make sure I get it right.
  3. Mark, I've done picture 'canes with a tint using 1 drop of liquid dye for 4 lbs of wax. Usually that is enough. Regarding the picture peeking out the top, most high melting point 'canes waxes shrink as they cool. I try to pour the wax at least 3/8" over the top of the picture. Bet Grandpa will love it.
  4. Looks great and I love that scent description.
  5. All are beautiful but I LOVE the one with the azaleas. Looks like you are all set for Valentines Day,
  6. Amber, your story just proves how important testing is. I was glad to read that you tested to duplicate worse case scenarios. Unfortunately there are customers out there that will *never* trim a wick. Now you know what happens when the 44-28-18 z wick isn't trimmed. Good luck finding a wick that works. Maybe instead of putting our logos on the label we should just put "Trim the Wick Stupid!"
  7. Donita has given you some excellent advise. You really do need to test your candles under all conditions. This needs to be done before giving them out to testers. Some customers will light a candle in the morning and let it burn all day without ever trimming a wick. I can't offer any advise on you problem because I still do not know what type of candle you are testing or what you used to make it.
  8. No problem. We want to keep the in laws happy. Be sure and post a picture when you get theirs done.
  9. A couple of yrs ago someone posted picture of her tea light packaging and I shamelessly stole the idea. She used 4x6 poly pro zip loc bags and card stock. Print out your info on the card stock, cut it to size, slide it into the bag, add 6 tea lights, zip it shut and you are good to go.
  10. Mark, with a 5" dia. 'cane, I use votives in my 'canes but I use heavy glass votives holders and put a 3" dia. cork pad under the holder. I've done power burns with no melting. Key is 5" dia 'cane and a heavy glass holder with something under it. I've used cork pads and ceramic tiles. Since I am challenged trying to embed the ceramic tile in the center of the bottom I've gone back to cork pads. When you do the next one with 2 pictures be sure to straddle the back seam with the pictures. You want the pictures on the sides not front and back of a round 'cane. Does that make sense?
  11. Everlasting test failed. The wick on my tea light floated a little to the side of the plastic cup and melted the side of the pillar. This was in a 3" pillar with a straight sided glass tea light holder. Back to the drawing board. Was an ugly rustic anyway.
  12. Wow is right. Great photo 'cane. And great looking family. You DW is going to be thrilled.
  13. Donita, I have tried several with the 5055 and get a nice everlasting but no rustic. The challenges we face in life.
  14. Donita, I added the crystals as a test. I used the same pot of wax to make a 4045 everlasting. I have been trying to come up with a way to make rustic everlastings where the wax doesn't melt around the tea light glass cup. Have burned one tea light and so far it looks OK. Will try a couple more before posting a picture. It turned out to be an ugly rustic but at least it is rustic.
  15. Good Going! Be sure and post a picture in the gallery. Like SD said a little buffing will take care of the smudge. I also spray all of mine with Krylon clear acrylic spray.
  16. I'm prejudice but I think it turned out pretty darn good. Now to see how that 2/0 SB wick burns. The pillar is 4045+stearic+translucent crystals. Tina, once you get to TN you are only a days drive from us.
  17. This one looks lots better. Bet she was thrilled.
  18. Wow! Love the flowers and leaves. So how big are they?
  19. Let us know how it goes Mark. I generally let mine set for 8 hrs before trying to get them out. If it doesn't slide right out try putting it in the fridge (not freezer) for 10 minutes. General rule of thumb is 10 min. in the water bath and 10 -15 min. on the counter to get a shell 1/4 - 3/8" thick. That is for wax poured at 190 degrees.
  20. Arlene, yes they are in there permanently. The wax flows around the bulge part of the glass and all you see is the opening. That is the type of glass I used in this everlasting pillar. http://www.craftserver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=66180 I think you can see the tops. Cathy you are welcome. It was driving me nuts too until I thought of the play duh.
  21. Don't you love it when an experiment works. Looking good.
  22. Be sure to post a picture in the gallery when you get it finished. By the way I got some corsage pins from Michaels to hold the flowers on the candle. I just cut them off so they were only about 1/2 - 3/4" long.
  23. You're welcome. Here is the link to one I made for my Aunt's 50th Anniversary. http://www.craftserver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56698&highlight=50th+anniversary Not the best decorating but it was the 1st one I made.
  24. Guess it depends on what type of scents you like. I can't live without these in addition to ones you and Scented have listed. Ocean Cucumber and Melon Blackberry Sage Mango Papaya Green Clover and Aloe and the list goes on as PA said.
  25. That is what I have used. Be sure to print out the instructions from their web site and follow them. It is really important to spray the printed paper 2 or 3 times before trying to apply it to your candle.
