Thanks for the information, I'll check that out ... so far, I think I've settled on one by Ovente which is an infrared type (not an expensive one), and it has a temperature dial.  I like the idea of the temperature dial, so I think I'm probably going to go with this one.  I can't believe how many of the models do not have good reports, it's incredible.

Will you provide a review when you purchase this please?  I'm in the market for a unit like this for my new candle studio and I was also agonizing over all of the choices.  Thanks so much!

I'm really glad I ordered every one of their new fragrances.  Well I ordered all 5 of them except Cozy Cabin.

I got the order the next day and when I got home, I sat down in the chair for the count and didn't get up till 2:30 this morning.   I was so excited that these oils came and drove down to my shack in my night gown to get the oils at 2:30 this morning and have been up since!    And I've made up 3 candles already in the oils!   Flaming did a real nice job on all the oils if I must say so....I'm very please with them all....Now just gotta do the waiting thing....

    Bourbon Butterscotch (Type) Fragrance Oil

Rich, creamy butterscotch intertwines with the oak barrel aged notes of bourbon whiskey and fragrant, sweet vanilla to unite and enhance this fragrance accord. Inspired by the BBW® scent.

I love love this scent!   Couldn't make up candles fast enough in this scent....I think this is a wonderful fall scent and especiallty for the Thanksgiving and Christmas.  It is very rich and you pick up all the notes in it.....

    Charcoal Tonka Fragrance Oil

An unexpected aroma of sweet tonka bean and smoked woods.

    Notes:

    • Top - black pepper, clove, saffron, bergamot, orange
    • Middle - lavender, violet, herbal, eucalyptus, cedar leaf, cade
    • Bottom - patchouli, smoked tonka, glowing embers, guaiacwood, vanilla

I'm not sure about this one till I get in wax.  To my nose I don't pickup the sweetness of the tonka bean; the smoked woods I definitely get and greenery whiffs in there.  I'm terrible explaining things...It's ok...but nothing I would pick for myself....

The mail just came and I opened my FC order of Boubon Butterscotch and Charcoal Tonka.  Wowsa!  They are both excellent oob!  I ordered the Bourbon Butterscotch as a complement to the Tobacco & Caramel candles that my specialty market customer adores and sells out of constantly.  She's going to go ape over this!  The Charcoal Tonka reminds me of a fireside type fragrance with the addition of a bit of spice--it's really complex and classy.  Yahoo--two great choices!  That's the end of my fall/holiday FO shopping.  Now off to make testers!

I use zincs almost exclusively with 6006.  Mostly 44-24, 44-32, 51 and 60.  Those sizes cover 9oz straight sided jars, mason jars, tumblers and status jars.

Bless you!  Thanks for this--I will order a sample pack.  Where do you get your wicks?  I have my supplier for the CD's but I'd like to find a good supplier for the zincs.

  4. So I've decided to branch out with some new containers that I'd like to debut for the fall/holiday season.  I have diligently been testing 9 oz and 16 oz straight sided amber jars as well as 16 oz amber Ball wide mouth jars....all of these have been relatively straight forward for wick choices.  The one that's causing me to pull my hair out is this 12 oz straight sided mason.  I'm not used to wicking a taller container so I'm now discovering the different stages of burning as it gets further down in the jar.  I'm using 6006 and I started with a CD 6,  I didn't like the way it looked like it was headed for tunneling.  I then switched to an 8 and that seemed to be on the same path.  I moved to a CD 10 and that looked good until it burned down about 1/3 of the way and then became far too hot.  I'm back down to a CD 6 as shown in my photo and even that seems pretty warm and the flame is large.  Any suggestions on where to go from here?   BTW, yes I trim my wicks in between each 3 hour burn. These are indeed a tough jar to figure out

Oh my!   What a gorgeous candle Lightmyfire all the way around...!!!  Your wax and wick and the creaminess of that candle is stunning!   Very nice presentation.

Is that the12oz jar?  $4.36 is not bad at all for a classy candle and with that wood lid.     Are you putting a label on it too?

    Trappeur:thumbsup:

Thank you! It's the 10 oz container.  I will be labeling after my test burn.  I sure wish I could get more of these!!

In regards to the WSP sale I did call their sister store today (Handmade Studio) and spoke to the manager and asked her if she ever recalls a 35% off sale & she told me that they have never had a 35% off sale that she can recall.  I don't know who had initially mentioned that kind of upcoming sale but she said there's not going to be anything that good online.  She said the only thing that will get me close to 35% off is if your local.... They do an extra 10% off for shopping in store so when they have a 25% off sale, I can go in store and get an extra 10% off.

So is there really a 35% off sale??

Oh Sunday, check out this site.  I know they are in California but if you order 3 cases or 4, the prices don't hurt so much

    California Candle Supply.

I'm checking out the black ones...I really like those.

I ordered 12 of the white ones and they make beautiful candles.  They were $2.40 each and they charged me $23.62 to ship to Texas; $4.36 each for a pretty 10 oz candle isn't too bad since my customer will be able to charge $25 for these.  I just checked the CalCandleSupply.com website and it looks like they're still out of stock on these lids.  I need to do my test burn with this container but looks like I may not be able to get more so this will be a VERY limited edition!! *shudder*

Maybe it's just me but it seems like the 100% soy craze is dying off or maybe it's just a cycle we are going through.  People are picking up both paraffin and soy candles in our shop and at one time we couldn't sell a paraffin candle unless it was a taper.  Idk how your area is, but maybe check with some shops that carry a variety and ask what sells.

Do you find that the blended candles fetch the same price?  My specialty market customer has no problem selling my 6006 for top dollar and they move like crazy.  Part of the reason for this topic is that I still have 50# of CB Excel soy wax flakes that I loved working with and I'd like to use up.  Maybe I'll just make gifts with that....

    Good question...

Now what will you say to the customer who asks you the difference besides saying the soy blend has paraffin in it and what are the pros and cons?   Like for instance, is one better than the other?

    Trappeur

I agree with where you're going with that question.  I would offer that some people think that the scent throw is better with the blend but I just like to offer different options for my customers in case they have a preference. I wouldn't play up the "pure soy" aspect of that option...just include it on the label.  If someone asks then I would ask them if they have a preference; if not then it won't matter.   I guess I could say that I prefer using the pure soy with the wooden wick, which is true.  Neither wax is better--they're just different types of wax.:D

  10. I'm considering offering 100% soy candles along with my 6006.  Is that crazy?  I'm thinking of making one container with all soy and possibly a wooden wick just to have the soy for those that won't buy a blend; the wooden wick will make it a totally different product.    Will this cause confusion or do you think that most folks won't notice unless they insist on only burning soy?  I won't market it any differently so that there's no perception of the all soy candle is a "premium" product, it's just another option.

I wouldn’t mind experimenting with CBL 125 as well. I wouldn’t mind having another parrafin wax in my arsenal. I also have 100’s of Zinc wicks so I could put them to good use.

please do keep us posted if you try the CBL 125.  I'm a 6006 fan but I could be swayed.
