I've been searching and testing pumpkin scents in hopes to find just the right pumpkin scent that smells more like pumpkin and throws well in soy.

The toasted pumpkin spice just isnt working for me. Love the smell oob, but poured it in my c3 and I'm not impressed. I'm not getting much throw at all. So it's on to the next pumpkin fragrance oil. If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate it.

Just an FYI I blended the Toasted Pumpkin Spice with a little Very Vanilla (CS) and it's great.  It gives it a more smooth finish and the throw with the VV is really good but not too much.

  2. I just had a new customer ask if I can duplicate a fragrance she loves that combines vanilla, bergamot and amber.  Whatever happened to people requesting a lavender candle??!!

There aren't any FO's that I saw on Google that combine vanilla and bergamot; I was hoping to try adding an amber FO to that.  Any suggestions on where to start with this?  Which vanilla would work well here?  I'm sure it's not sweet.

She's looking to see if she has any of the lotion that carries this scent.  Another needle in a haystack but I'll try to find it!  I'll gladly take any and all input

If I'm understanding correctly, then I learned something new today. I never knew that you have to consider each fragrance from each seller as a factor in how the candle burns. That could take a lifetime! Each company's Pumpkin Chai will smell differently, of course. I just thought if you had the right size and type wick for the size candle and the wax you are using, then you had it all. Do I have it wrong? Nice swing by the way.:)

This is why I've stopped ordering every scent that makes eyes at me...too much work

I do not accept defeat all that well so I will keep trying lol. I do know about dumping certain scents but my thought is that other people have accomplished them or else they wouldn’t still sell them. There has to be a combination out there that I have not found quite yet lmao. I will keep pursuing this ugh!

I completely understand-I'm just at the point where I need to be able to "perfect"

a scent then offer it to my customers.  There will always be a few that are a work in progress.  Keep searching!!

I believe that I used a CD10 with CS Pumpkin Soufflé and it passed but I still think that it can be done much better. That is a really tough one to wick. A Zinc 51I also tested with it and it barely passed so I wouldn’t use that again with it. Interesting to know that you used a CD7 with the Mistletoe hmmmm. Thank you for that test result lol. I use it in a Tumbler jar from

CS with 6006 and I believe it is with either a Zinc 60 or 62. I have to refer to my recipe cards. Certain scents like Pumpkin Pie, Toasted Pumpkin Spice, Cinnabuns, Pumpkin Chai, Cranberry Marmalade, and a few other CS scents I cannot seem to get to work with Zincs or CD’s in a 8oz mason jar. I have all

kinds of different wicks and brands so I may have to venture into those. I just hate when certain wicks are suggested by suppliers yet they do not work for me lol. I guess that I will move on and try HTP’s next unless anyone has a better suggestion

I guess as a lot of others on here have said, if you can't wick a scent then dump it.   It appears that the cinnamon based fo's are taunting you!  I love Cran Marm so I'll give that a whirl in the mason but I will not let it defeat me!!  It may drive me to a nap, however.  Remember those??!

    Update on the CBL125!!!

My Fraser Fir (CS) in a 8oz mason jar using CBL125 with a Zinc 51 in 6006 is about 25 hours into testing. Wick is not burning hot and not weak either. Scent throw is excellent and it’s clearing the the sides beautifully. Looks like this candle may pass testing but I will see. The Cranberry Marmalade from CS using the same specs however is failing once again. I cannot seem to get this scent among a few others to work in any wick and wax combination I have used. It has failed in Clarus 3022, 6006, 464, 4627 and now CBL125. It is a heavier scent and tough to wick even at a lower percentage. The wick always drowns out on me. Maybe I should try an ECO or HTP wick next. I burned the Pumpkin Chais with an Eco 8 and 10 but they became way too hot for my liking in 6006. I just made 2 new testers using an Eco 6 and a HTP83. I will update.

Thanks for this update.  It's interesting to see how different fo's perform in each wax (the translation of this is that it's a pain in the a** sometimes).  I just made a tester with an 8 oz square mason, 6006, CS Mistletoe and a CD 7; lucky me it was perfect on the first try.  Next is CS PumpkinSouffle and  CS Apple Harvest.  AH has been another easy one to work with.  Please keep us posted!

I got cd 4's and cd 7's.  I really should have ordered double the amount that I did as I go through so many.

And my 20 oz tureens I get from them.

This last time I ordered Spruce Orchard which I needed.   I wanted to order more but couldn't at the time.  I have always had good luck with their oils and the customer service is stellar.

Oh I love Lone Star!  They are only 1 1/2 hours from me near Dallas so occasionally I make the trip over there; it would be great if they were open on Saturday for a few hours.  I just don't like how they just throw the wicks into a bag so I refuse to order them.  I found CD 3, 4's and 5's at Bittercreek and CD 7's at Nothstar Country Candle; they are packaged very nicely aka the wicks are straight and lovely when they arrive :D

You have the identical container that I am using. What wick are you using. I have just done a burn test with 13 different wicks. I am not sure any of them were ideal. Do you mind sharing? I am using IGI 6006

I just got some wicks that came in all jumbled up, twisted and wax coatings on wicks cracked in so many spots on the wicks.   I can make these wicks work, of course I'm not happy with them, but wanted to know even though they are cracked, will it disturb the performance of the burning of the candle?   I believe I have burned them b/4 and there wasn't a problem but just thought I would ask.

This is the reason I don't order wicks from Lone Star *shudder*

I hope something does! LOL! I plan to pour some Fall scents today so maybe between the two of us we can bring on some cooler weather!

What part of Texas are you from? I've probably asked you this before but there are several on here that live in Texas and I can't remember who I've asked LOL!  I'm in Cleveland, about 50 miles north of Houston.

I'm near Tyler-I drove through Cleveland yesterday!  I'll wave on my way back through

I feel your pain! Texas humidity and heat is horrible! I'm so ready for cooler weather but around here it might be 30 one day and 80 the next and that can happen in December! I hate our weather here!

I'm in TX too-I'm just praying to get out of the 90's!  Thank goodness my customers are starting to order fall scents-maybe that'll bring cooler temps!!!!

Maybe each student should be given a craft project at the beginning of the year. They should have to report on it a few times during the year and  present it at the end of the year. I think it would do them a world of good to make something with their own hands.

But then they'd have to put down their phones!  What a concept!  I truly believe that people discovering a craft hobby would help reduce the stress and violence rates exponentially.

  13. I'm dabbling with wooden wicks now, just in one container.  I ordered from The Wooden Wick Company (woodenwick.com).  I ordered their sample pack for $29.95-they don't charge shipping on this item.  As a side note, their website is extremely informative (including videos and lots of wick charts) and their packaging is gorgeous.  I'm going to use some of the recommended wicks in my container this weekend and see what happens.  The wooden wicks I've tried before have a tendency to turn my white wax brown (I don't use dye).    I can update when I do a test burn.
