  1. Never heard of them before, but googled the name and came up with the site. Their wicks sound interesting. I just wonder how hot you can pour your wax before they lose their rigidity. Would be interested in hearing your results. I have a few molds {pillar} that are a son of a gun to keep the wicks straight due to multiple wicking. Anyway let us know!
  2. I've never done either, but I just wanted to say that I believe Tucker was the one who did that, but I don't think he used floor wax, but I may be wrong! I think he glued the pics on and then sprayed it with Krylon clear finish. I have a can of it, but have never used yet. Got it at Walmart...it's a 12 oz can. Sorry can't help you with the other questions, I'm too new at this myself. Good luck!
  3. Haven't done any overpours yet either, but you know if you don't overwick it like they did, it doesn't seem like you would get the same effect. I would think some overwicking, maybe not as drastic as the example above might do it. Good luck, let us see pics when you're done!
  4. Thanks all for the replies. I think I like KMommy said about burning them like any other container candle. I guess I was thinking more in terms of a pillar candle...but it's not. I am just getting sooo frustrated with them. Most of my other candles I can wick and they burn alright, but these votives! Guess I'll just give it a rest and come back to them later.
  5. http://candlecocoon.com carries a "dill pickle"
  6. I believe the complete contents is the correct way??? At least that's how I understood it. I'm just so frustrated with votives at this point that I really don't want to deal with them anymore. I don't see the purpose in making them in those little metal votive cups if you can't burn them in there...because no other holder is going to give you a tight enough fit! I believe I shall just pre-wick them and pour them in these little clear plastic votive holders I got to try out. I mean you can't burn them like a pillar, and if you give them away you might as well give the plastic container because who knows what others may try to burn the votive in.
  7. I can understand this! While I don't have a business, once I start making soap or candles, by the time I'm done all my nicely organized stuff is in a mess again. I do wish there was some kind of magic way to keep it organized. I have these huge plastic bins from walmart...all nicely labeled and such. However not enough floor space in the garage, so they end up getting stacked. Well, guess what happens when you need something out of one of the bottom bins?
  8. Candlewic has the palm waxes http://www.candlewic.com/ I love palm wax, but why would you blend it with soy? I believe it would compromise the crystal or feather effect of palm, not really sure, have never done that. Some folks hate to work with it, but once you get your wicking down pat, I think the beauty of palm surpasses any problems associated with it. I think you'll find it a lot of fun!
  9. Oh heck, I didn't realize the containers were going to make such an impact! And here I thought I was doing well because they were in tight fitting containers!
  10. Ok, ended up googling "properly burning votive candle" and lifted this info straight from "Indigo Daisy Shack" http://www.indigo-daisy-shack.com/zen/index.php?main_page=page_7 "Votives and container candles are designed to liquefy while burning and must be burned in a proper container. The best container is a simple tight fitting container that is the same size as the candle. Many candle holders that you may have thought were designed to burn votives, are really too big and not snug enough to properly burn a votive candle. These candle holders are best used for burning tea lights. If a votive is burned properly, it will completely melt, and only the burn control tab should remain."
  11. What makes a "properly" burning votive? In other words, should the votive liquefy completely after several hours of burning, or should it just have a melt pool of 1/4 to 1/2 inch? Right now I'm test burning votives and can't decide between two wicks I'm using. I'm also burning the votives in tight fitting containers...the very ones they were made in. So with my larger wick my votive will completely liquefy in a few hours. With my smaller wick there is hang up on the sides. Should I use the bigger wick?? It's funny but for as many times as I've burned store bought votives in the past, I just can't remember exactly how they burned! BTW, the two different wicks I'm using are right next to each other in size. I've searched the forum but never found the answer I'm looking for. Oh and just one more thought...just how tight should the votive holder be? For me, burning them in the holders they were actually poured in is ok, but if you give these votives away...well nobody wants an ugly looking metal votive holder!
  12. Yes, you are right! I'd forgotten about that, but still, it doesn't seem as though it should be that high. I'll have to check it out further, but thanks for pointing that out!
  13. I got my sample wicks :yay: from Wickit and am currently testing votives...my most difficult to wick! Going to be making pillars and container candles. Want to do a batch of CP and try again to swirl. Received my samples from SFIC and will be making some M&P too. I've used SFIC in the past but have forgotten which base I like the best, so am trying again.
  14. That is just too funny! But I do feel sorry for the guy! You know, some of these fo's just really smell too good, heck I could just drink "fruit slices" it smells that good to me. This reminds me of when I sent my mom a surprise package of M&P soaps. She later told me she wasn't sure what it was so she took a bite!:lipsrseal I'm lucky she has a good sense of humor!
  15. if buying wax from someone in your own state as opposed to buying from out of state? I just ended up paying 24.33 for a fifty pound case of wax from someone only three hours away from me. I buy wax from someone several states away and it ends up being cheaper?? Sorry, just sorta ranting here I guess.
  16. Oh my gosh, this is so true! I have the same addiction and it's so hard to stop! It's just that there are so many scrumptious sounding FO's out there and they are all calling to me!
  17. that suppliers would put the # of oz. on their FO bottles, would put info such as "b&b safe", would indicate the color of the FO on the label {makes a big difference when soaping, but also in making candles} would put if it's gel safe, and maybe the flashpoint as well. That they would make their labels waterproof so when I use the FO and decide I'm crazy about it, I know where to go to re-order! Wouldn't you like to see more info on the labels??
  18. I'm lazy! Always trying to find an easier way. Bought some of those ice cube trays that make mini ice cubes and now use that! This way I get more time actually playing!
  19. I was just at BB&W this evening and caved in and got his "Amber". That is an awesome scent! It's not just that heavy sweet scent. On the side of the box it states it's made with three different types of amber...golden, sweet and white, with jasmine and white rose mixed in. Would also love to find a dupe of this scent, but nobody has it!
  20. Has anybody ever tried any of their FO's? They have a wonderful selection but are a tad pricey. Still if they were good...
  21. I have added vybar 343 {think that's the correct number!} It is specially formulated for palm waxes and I use it to increase the amount of FO I can add to my candles. Oh, and also UVB inhibitor, because your purple type colors will quickly change on you! One of my testers ooohed and aaahed over my "cool" purple, blue, and pink palm pillar! I told him it was a mistake!
  22. Happy Easter! I have a question. When using lets say vybar for container candles...my directions state to use anywhere from 0.5 to 2% per weight. I like to add it to increase the amount of FO I use. However, just HOW MUCH more FO can you add? I know too much vybar will inhibit or lock up the FO. I added 1.5% vybar to my wax to be on the safe side. I'm using a soy blend, but really my question is more in regards to to the vybar and amount of FO. TIA
  23. I'm going to have a great day today! {gotta work tomorrow } Got the house to myself, so it's going to be candles, mp soap, want to do cp soap...one of my testers claims it helpls her acne...I just keep my mouth shut! Gonna put my turtles in the outside "swimming pool" for an hour or two to get some real sun...heck it's pushing 90 degrees here! Nobody to tell me I'm "smelling" up the house with all those FOs! Yippeeee!!
  24. It reminds me of ribbons draped around a maypole...beautiful!
