  1. Yep...I do the same as the others that responded....wick tabs barely touching.
  2. While it IS a good idea...don't get caught in that trap. I've told a few people the same thing over the years. You test and then give them a small candle to test to see if it's what they want. They burn the free candle and then...you never get an order in that scent from them. I'm not saying all people will do this but chances are you will get a few...more so at craft shows. They will give you their info to get in touch and then you call, leave a message and they never call back. I had a guy that loved a certain vanilla fragrance, he called and ordered 10 candles. Picked them up at a craft show (local for both of us) and said after burning those he would want more. I invited him to my Christmas Open House held a few months later...he didn't come. I saw him at the craft show the following year and he said they were moving out of state and he didn't want more "to pack". People are very fickle and once your name leaves their memory bank...well you know how that can be. lol
  3. I'll TRY to remember to post a picture when I finish it. I didn't get much done yesterday...like I had planned to. Making your own bias binding is NOT fun if you don't have the bias tape maker. The Fons & Porter book where I found the pattern said cut 1" strips and then use the 1/2" bias taper maker to make your bindings. There's a nifty little trick to making it without it but my edges kept fraying so I stopped and decided to do it the old fashion way...fold in 1/2 and then fold in the edges. It took forever. I got the small circle pinned on and decided to let it "relax" overnight so will sew it this morning. Then I have to make the longer bias strip that will probably be a PITA too. The quilting on mine is stitch in the ditch...I have only tried FMQ one time on a practice block. LOL...I had the bobbin thread nesting underneath. I'm planning to buy a Janome 6006 machine in a few months. Same dealer where I got my current machine...Elna...and WILL take the training classes they provide. I think your quilting looks great. Are you a fairly new quilter? I've sewn for 50+ years but just got interested in quilting last year.
  4. Very cute puppy quilt. How old is your grandbaby? I am working on a quilted Christmas round table topper. Knock on wood...so far it is going great. Tomorrow comes the hard part. Making the bias binding and sewing it around the 10" inner circle and then again around the bottom edge of 6" wedge shapes that are around it. I HATE sewing around circles. This is all attached to a 42" circle. Then I have to find something that I like to trace a pattern on template plastic so I can cut out shapes to applique around the bottom of the large circle. I'm not the best hand sewer...have done applique one time that I thought it looked really good...lol.
  5. Our nephew used to be an occupational therapist...hands on. Now he is in management. Anyway...one year he had his "clients" make decorated Christmas balls. He used the white frosted balls and then the "clients" used glue and made a design and then they used silver glitter over the glue. They turned out very pretty...and one Christmas he gave us an extra one that someone had made. (I say his clients because that is what his company called them...not patients.
  6. One of my friends has a wicker love seat, chair and coffeetable. She has a LONG kitchen and had them sitting in front of her bay window. She got tired of it so put them out on their deck...small part of it is under roof. Anyway...this is how her husband cleans them at the end of summer.
  7. I always have loved looking at what you make Isbennis. Your clamshell tarts look VERY professional...the labels are gorgeous. And your display colors of the pink and green are so inviting. And that pegboard for $6.00 is perfect...what a nice hubs to find it for you. Mind would say...I can make one for you and then 5 years from now I'd still be waiting. He has such great intentions but not much follow through if it's something for me. Now...if it's what he wants to make or wants to do he gets on it immediately.
  8. Ravens...I only tested the citronella in the paint cans...didn't pour any to sell. I had glazed pottery containers from the old Missy's Candles that had a woodsy theme on them and I poured citronella in those and took to a couple of shows. I took 6 and they all sold. I poured 3 in the paint cans and burned them outside in our pool area.
  9. I didn't buy the quart size at Lowes...bought the pints with lids. It's been several years so I couldn't tell you where exactly in the store that I found them. MAYBE in the paint, brushes and painting supplies aisle. I was going to use them for outdoor citronella candles. I only tested in them and never poured any to sell. Oh...and I think I have smaller than the pint size too. One of the suppliers had those on their website...there is no way I could remember who it was.
  10. About 5 years ago I bought NEW metal paint cans with lids at Lowes. Those worked fine for me and never got too hot. Anyone remember pouring pillar candles in empty orange juice cans? The companies don't use metal cans anymore. When my husband I were first married he made several of them...I just remembered this. lol Anyway...he knew nothing about pouring candles but I'll be darn...they burned great. The wax and wicks came from a kit that my nephew bought for me for Christmas when he was about 8 years old. He's 48 years old now.
  11. Sorry for jumping in on this discussion but...join/membership dates mean absolutely nothing. That only indicates when someone joined THIS particular forum. It doesn't have anything to do with when a person started pouring or selling candles. My membership date is 2005 but I've been selling since 2001. It just means that even though I read this forum before...I didn't decide to JOIN till 2005. I was posting on supplier forums like NG, BC and several more that were by invitation only. And then of course the old TSR.
  12. Now that is REALLY funny considering their melts that I have smelled so far have NO hot throw unless you sniff directly over the dish...and then you might get a faint smell. I've been "reporting" all along about the warmer and melts my X DIL's business partner bought to help a friend get started selling Shitsy. Was just in the hair salon on Wednesday and couldn't smell a thing. Was talking to X DIL in the back of the shop where they have the warmer plugged in...couldn't smell it. If I didn't see the lightbulb glowing I wouldn't know it is turned on. I had one of my tarts melting yesterday...had the family here for Thanksgiving dinner. It was Winter Woods from CW and I use 10% in my parasoy tarts. You could smell it all over the downstairs and upstairs too. In fact when my daughter and her kids came she said she smelled it in the garage before she opened the back door to come in.
  13. Well...since Rustic Escentuals bought Vickey's (KY) why don't you check her site and see what she has in stock from KY. I am pretty sure she is carrying just about everything that KY sold. And RE is in South Carolina so shipping to you in GA shouldn't be bad. Plus I am pretty sure that Amy/RE says what's been tested in paraffin or soy and how it throws. Of course...I'm always a BIT cautious with that because I got burned ordering oils from JS that were supposed to be excellent in soy and didn't thow worth a darn for me in my parasoy blend. http://rusticescentuals.com/
  14. While I was checking around on etsy since eccolights posted the 3 oz./lb. nonsense...I found something else just as funny. Here is the quote in their ad for red Apple Jack 'n Peel soy tarts. I think she is trying to say she doesn't use UV Inhibitor but...she makes it sound like her fragrance oil and red dye are natural. LOL **After melting the tart, the edges of the melted wax may turn white. This is because my tarts are completely natural, and no chemicals are added to help them retain their color.
  15. I use quite a few from them and 2 on your list...Country Kitchen and Christmas Eve throw great in CBL130 (parasoy) and GB464. His Pumpkin Pie is JUST like the old Missy's that I loved and missed till I tried theirs. And before KY (now OOB) discontinued their Perfect Blend (parasoy) all 3 of these threw great in that too.
  16. That's the first thing I thought too Candybee when I saw the subject of the post. I HOPE they do come back but...like you...not going to get excited till I see it on their website.
  17. The original poster DIDN'T ask if anyone supports themselves solely by their home business. They asked if anyone was workiing FULLTIME at it and had quit their job. Geesh!!!
  18. I just did a quick search and the only thing I found was this etsy shop that is selling them cheaper than WSP. http://www.etsy.com/listing/73975624/100-melt-pour-soap-clamshells-pour-close
  19. Oh...you are pouring into clamshells. I used the mix I posted for the fluted tart pans. I have a TON of clamshells here and sold a few...of course for use in my tart warmer using my wax blend. I would try blending as IwantItgreen suggested...starting with your container wax and adding 141 till you get the right melt and the cubes release from the clamshells withouth leaving that film behind. We all want everything to look perfect...but honestly if the cubes throw well and release from the clams...who cares if the package has a film on it. LOL
  20. I loved CBL141 from CW. Made such beautiful votives. And I used the CBL129 for containers. The 141 is probably the problem...not melting in the shitsy warmers. Shitsy claims that they use a special formula wax...and I think if you do a search here you might find other posts from people who have mixed different types of wax to get a MP low enough to melt in their warmers. Shitsy doesn't say what kind of wax they use...from what I can see from the tarts at the hair salon...it looks like paraffin to me...a really low MP paraffin but it COULD be mixed with another wax or additive. Cathy always has it in the melter when I get there first thing Thursday morning so I can't get a chance to touch one of the cubes. Maybe I will ask her tomorrow to let me see one of the packages and try to analyze it...lol. What is the MP of the container wax that you use? You could trying adding it at different ratios to see if the lady can get it to melt in her warmer. I do either an 80/20 ratio of paraffin to one pour parasoy. The MP of the paraffin is 138 and the parasoy is 123. And once in a while I pour closer to 50/50 if the fragrance oil has a lot of vanilla in it. I HAVE had seepage with the 80/20 when pouring like...Buttercream Vanilla. Sometimes just a few beads of vybar help with the problem.
  21. What is the wattage of your warmers vs. the scentsy warmers? I know I've posted this somewhere else here on the board about them...and the lightbulbs. First off they sell theirs for $1.00 each and depending what size warmer she has...the mid size warmer uses a 20W bulb and the full size uses a 25W bulb. My punched tin tart warmer (and I used to sell these) uses a 40W bulb. My X DIL and her partner at the hair salon always used my tart warmer and tarts. Then Kristen/partner went to a scentsy party...a favor to a friend...and bought a warmer and tarts. Cathy/X DIL showed me the warmer and both of us agree...plus a friend of mine that gets her hair done there and we went went out to dinner with them on Sunday...said that you can NOT smell THEIR tarts in THEIR warmer. I am a weekly customer and during the summer bi-weekly and so far when I walk in I smell nothing. Not bragging but everytime one of my tarts was in the warmer that I GAVE them you could smell it. In fact I got many tart sales from their hair customers because of that. Another thing that I have noticed is...even the scentsy tarts are not melting fully in their own warmer. I sure hope the people that were buying my tarts don't think this shit is mine...lol. Oh...and I gave Cathy about 6-8 tarts...new scents that I wanted an opinion on...and she has never put them the scentsy warmer. She said Kristen wouldn't like it...IMO too bad...so Cathy was going to use them at home. I'll be there tomorrow morning so I must remember to ask her if she ever melted them at home. I have one of the crappy Scentsy books here...Cathy gave it to me with a smirk on her face saying...maybe you'll want to order. Also...meant to say that...scentsy stuff is WAY overpriced.
  22. Hey Chris...I seem to always agree with you...lol. I had ordered other supplies from them a couple of times and this was years ago. They had a scent listed that I couldn't find anywhere else. Got a sample and OOB it smelled great...in wax NOTHING! They sent a free sample with one of my orders and I didn't wasting wax to test it. Forgot to add...this was back when I was using paraffin for my container candles.
  23. I'll come out and say the name...it is Just Scents. I know the messageboard and the person that it happened to. I used to order from them...always got their newsletter etc. Well...as soon as Becky saw the names of the people who were posting on a certain board...she basically took everyone's name off of the newsletter email list. I was able to find a BETTER version of her Pumpkin Pie...which I LOVED from Missy's. The one from The Candlemakers Store smelled the same and actually has a stronger cold and hot throw. If someone else remembers for sure...didn't she tell someone not to order from her anymore because she would NOT sell to them. If I am wrong...sorry. Scented or Vertically Enhanced...you might remember this.
  24. I have their Whipped Pumpkin Pie but I used it in CP soap...not wax. I use Pumpkin Pie from The Candlemaker's Store in OH. Sorry I couldn't help. Bill Binder at CW has always been a big help with advice and answers to my questions. Maybe an email or call to him would be a good idea...I always email and he responds pretty quick.
  25. I've been using this wax for about 4 years now and I went "against their wick type advice" and decided to try LX. If you've read any old post njcandle, you may have come across me saying that Bill Binder recommended LX wicks to me to use in their palm pillar wax. So after I tested the sample wicks that he sent me I ordered LX wicks and on a whim one day I started testing them in the CBL130 wax. For me they work great. I use 8% FO and I usually cure at least a day but sometimes I have tested several hours after I pour and I get a strong HT. I've had better luck with CW's Ultimate scents than their regular FO line.
