  1. Does anyone know of a supplier for a true leather fragrance oil. One that smells like the inside of a saddle store, etc.
  2. I use igi 4630 wax and use plastic tealight cups to use up leftover wax. I also use metal tealight cups for using up pillar wax. I also use all of my leftover wax to make layered candles. And I use zinc wicks.
  3. I've ordered from them before and never had a problem getting my order.
  4. I use black dye chips. To get a true black color, i put in blue chips until i get the shade of black i want.
  5. I am going to be making candles for a class reunion using the 4" diameter ivy bowl. I think I'll double wick them using zinc wick. Any suggestions on the size zinc wick to use as a starting point? I am using palm feathering container wax.
  6. I just figure out how much to charge for the ingredients and then add the cost of the jar to that. My customers understand that the jar costs a fair amount of money. They don't mind paying my price for a good quality candle.
  7. I make citronella candles for summertime. There is a fragrance oil called Citronella. Most all suppliers carry it. I also use the wick size recommended for the size candle i make.
  8. Michael's usually has them 2/$1.00. Also, walmart is a good place to buy them.
  9. I got mine at Bittercreek South. They have 20 & 40 to a case. You can also get them at AT Wicks End.
  10. when i started selling candles, i started with swap meets and craft shows. Word of mouth slowly started and thus a large customer base. You might also try your bank, post office and beauty salon. I've done quite well at these places.
  11. I also use the 4630 wax. i love it. I use a 10 oz. octogon jar and a 51-32-18 zinc wick. i get a full melt pool no matter what scent/color combination i use.
  12. after i clean the wax mixture out of my pots, i use wax remover spray to finish the cleaning. gets all of the mixture out and ready for the next batch. uote=Breanna take my pour pot and put it upside down on a cookie sheet with paper towels on it and put in oven for a few minutes to clean my pot,,BUT you do not have to worry that the scent before will be there for the next scent. It does go away,,,hth
  13. i use the 4630 blend. i use 1 1/2 oz. per lb. fo. i get an awesome scent throw, both cold and hot. this wax also says you can use 1 1/2 oz. per lb. with no problem.
  14. A couple of months ago, someone mentioned that toilet paper works better. I tried it and it works better and faster than paper towels. I also use less toilet paper than paper towels. And the cheap ones, like the ones at Dollar General at 6 rolls for $1.00, work just fine. For cleaning out the residue and scent, I used mold cleaner i got from Pourette. But any candle supplier has it. I think Michaels even has it.
  15. I make container candles using igi 4630 container wax. I thought of making some chunk candles. I take it I would us the 4630 wax for the overlay. what kind of wax is best or the chunks. also, when doing a chunk candle, how do you determine the size of wick to use.
  16. I just received a lot of baby food jars from a member on this forum. The labels have been removed, but the glue is still on the jars. If I put them in the dishwasher, will the glue come off. Or, will i have to clean each one individually in hot water with a srubby.
  17. i use the 51-32-18 all my color/fragrances. no problems with sooting as long as the wick is get to 1/4?" between burns. i tried the 44-32-18 zinc and didn't get a full melt pool. but i also heavily fragrance my jar candles because that is what my customers want. so some of the heavier fragrances do soot. but the hot throw is so awesome, they don't mind the soot. they just wipe the lip of before they burn again.
  18. don't know if this size will work. i use igi 4630 container wax in a 10 oz octogon jar. and a 51-32-18 zinc wick.
  19. I use needle nose pliers and don't have any problem with the wick coming out the tab.
  20. i tried the 51 & 60 zinc. but i poured above the lip at the top. I'll give the 44 zinc a try. thanks.
  21. I've tried a 51 & 60 zinc. no luck. isn't the 44 a small wick?
  22. I am trying to wick a flower pot votive using igi 4630 wax. Has anyone filled these with this wax, and if so, what wick did you use. I use zinc wicks. Also, if you fill above the lip at the top, will this affect getting a full melt pool.
