  1. Shutterbug-I am on SW side of MI. I would guess BCN and WSP would probably be within 100 miles of same distance from me. Still hard to believe you (in Detroit) which is about 150 miles from me that shipping would be that much more. I am close to a UPS distribution center so that should not play into it.
  2. I did what Trish did. My results: 2 cases of wax WSP Ohio to Michigan $40.46 BCN Wisconsin to Michigan $41.48 Peaks Colorado to Michigan $51.34 All same product. Makes me go HMMMMMMM
  3. Thanks everyone. I think I have enough supplies to try a whipped recipe. I will lighten up on the oils. I looked at Bunnys Bootilicious (sp) I don't have all of that stuff. Can I substitute something for something? Like I have aloe butter not aloe water. TIA Edited: I searched the old board. I can sub some things. Maybe not the aloe butter but some. I don't have PS80. Is this mandatory?
  4. Amanda I live in Michigan also. NuScents Candle is in Chicago area. Can't think of link. They have some supplies. I don't care for their scents, but their wax and other supplies is fairly reasonable even with shipping when I am in a pinch. Fast too. I order one day and get the next. They sell in smaller quantities. I tried Hobby Lobby supplies when I first started also. By the time you get everything you need, you probably will have spent more than if you had ordered it. Also, the quality is not nearly as nice as actual suppliers that deal in only candles. Here it is www.nuscentscandle.com
  5. It was: 12z shea 4z mango butter 5z oil used 1/3 jojoba, 1/3 virgin coconut, 1/3 avocado. Also added a smidge of Vitamin E oil I am now out of the mango butter and jojoba oil. I do have lots of shea, cocoa and aloe butters. I also have some lanolin. Also still have a good variety of other oils eg. grapeseed, avodado, soy, etc. Any suggestions with what I have on hand. TIA Also it was still greasy about half hour later.
  6. Thanks. I don't have the recipe with me - I am at work. I will search for the recipe and post.
  7. Shea and mango for the butters. 3 different oils.
  8. I made my first body butter last night. Using two different recipes from this forum. Very greasy. Used suggested %. Should I use a premade base? Dry-Flo? Help. Please. TIA
  9. Agree with everyone else. Hit or miss on scent. Gr-rrrr on the shipping thing. Sometimes that is the determination of which supplier I go with. They do have a nice selection of jars though. I do like their Butterfly Kisses scent. Was popular last Valenine's Day. I may have to order more.
  10. Ditto for me. My candle making room is in our basement. It was, sadly to say time to clean up. We had a Christmas with friends party down there the other night and now all the normal family gatherings going on. My sons are asking for fudge and iced sugar cookies, so had to wind up the candle stuff. Come December 26th, I'll be back at it.
  11. Love the blues, also. I bet it smells great, too.
  12. I work at a sewer & septic cleaning company (my not as fun as candle making job). Never, never clean your pour pots in the sink. The wax will clog your drains up as fast as if you had put pure crisco down them. Faster, because the crisco will melt with hot water. Wax just sits in the traps, waiting to plug up. I hit mine with the heat gun and wipe out with paper towels that I now buy by the case at Sams Club. My DH is the owner of the company. His first statement to me was "I hope you're not putting any of that 'stuff' down the sink, toilet, etc." Merry Christmas, everyone.
  13. Just a suggestion. This is a very busy time of year for all delivery people. It is not uncommon for these people to be working 12 - 13 hour shifts. I try to order all of the supplies I will be needing for the holiday season before December 1st. Before the Christmas package rush. Some pre-planning is involved. But it saves a lot of headaches - timeframes, dealing with snow, etc. etc. We all know how it is when we are scurrying to get ready for a show. Compound that by thousands of customers that the delivery people are trying to do their best to satisfy.
  14. I have a case of these jars in the larger size. I tried at least 10 different wicks. The best so far is an Lx26 or 28. Still some hang up. But with the odd size I don't think there will be a complete burn. Also if you are using J223, watch for tunnels. Because of odd size - narrow opening - the jar cooled strange. Huge tunnel one half to one inch under smooth top. Poke Poke Poke. Also required a repour. Good Luck
  15. Also double check your 223 pours. Mine lately have looked grat on top after cooling - but, when I poked ther was a huge tunnel about one half to one inch under smooth surface. I am pouring an oddly shaped jar and in a cool environment. But even heating jars, hitting jars with heat gun as cooling, etc. still when fully cooled - big tunnel around wick. I poked with a skewer to find the tunnel. Hopefully you don't have the same problem. Like I said oddly shaped jar. It is approx. 6" at bottom and 3" at top. Been a buggar to wick.
  16. Does anyone know why they raised the cost of their FO's so much? I used to order quite a bit from them and still do if I have a favorite. Also their shipping costs have seem to gone up more than other suppliers. I live in MI and they are In OH. But I can order same weight product from CO or NY and shipping is less. I work for a company that uses a lot of diesel fuel and diesel fuel remains high. Most delivery company trucks also use diesel fuel. So I can understand why shipping is higher in general. But just seems WSP is unusally higher than others. Just a thought.
  17. Pam My UPS guy is getting a nice basket from me. He has hefted around countless lbs. for me. I know it his job but he goes overboard by putting in my truck or if he sees me at my house he will drop ship there and take into house for me. His favorite scent is pine anything.
  18. I used to use 1343 with a little vybar all of the time. Left a small dip in tart - shrinkage. But had good throw. Switched to 4794 recently. Holds more FO and has a smoother top.
  19. I know how you feel, Bev. On my slow days at my 8-5 job, I am plotting what will be in my pot by 5:30. My day job is kind of seasonal but I still have to be in the office everyday and oh how I wish I could just go home and do something constructive. So many things to create - so little time. I love candlemaking - Even the flops. :bliss:
  20. Very nice. You are all such an inspiration to me. I am new to the board and I think it will be years before I will ever have a candle that I can post a pic of.:highfive:
  21. Just received bottle of HBR. OOB smells kind of fuelly, vinegary - if this makes sense. Maybe it is the rum smell. Will have to try in wax. It is very cold here right now. Could below freezing temps affect scent? Probably was in cold delivery truck for eight hours or so. I guess I should just go ahead and make a candle. Thanks for any info.
  22. New to this board but have been reading posts for over a year now. I have two sons that work for UPS. One is a supervisor. I agree with Donita. They are working long hours already. It is not uncommon for him to put in a 12 hour day. I printed the posts and will present them to him. He always finds feedback interesting. My UPS driver is wonderful. I have my supplies delivered to me at my office. He opens my truck and puts stuff in then he comes in for signature. He did this even before he knew that my son was his supervisor. Also, want to say that I love this site. You all do bea:yay: utiful work and I have learned so much.
