  1. Just finished a batch of CPOP, and I think my swirls are going to be ruined. I didn't even use the SB, but a minute after I added my Storm Watch fragrance, it started to thicken to a gel. So I glopped it into the mold, did a few passes with the chopstick, and stuck it in the oven. I'm thinking it's going to be more marbled than swirled.
  2. It's not that I dislike stearic in lotions. I've always used it without problems, but I can't find my ziploc bag of stearic acid. :rolleyes2 I thought I had some cetaryl alcohol from making the holy grail scrub too, but apparently I lost it as well... I really need to get my supplies more organized. And the lotion is for my mom for mother's day. I'm afraid if I order more stearic, it won't be here in time. I think I'm just going to replace the castor with cocoa butter, then I'll have all solid oils, so it should firm up. May up the e-wax to 4% too.
  3. I need some help formulating a lotion recipe without stearic acid. I know it can be done, but I've never tried it before. I figured I would just use more hard oils. Should I use more e-wax than normal? These are the ingredients I have on hand: cocoa butter shea butter babbasu oil 76 degree coconut oil castor oil soybean oil olive oil e-wax optiphen plus and germall plus I was thinking 77% water, 3% e-wax, 10% shea, 5% babbasu, and 5% castor. Then FO and preservative. Does that look okay, or will it have problems thickening?
  4. It actually didn't harden up on me. It stayed light and airy, but it deflated a bit in the tins. Now they have sink holes. :/
  5. I use the same amount of fragrance in CPOP as I do in regular CP. 1 oz per pound of oils. That's also what I used in the first few batches of HP I made.. But since those, I packed away the crockpot and it was CP or CPOP all the way. *lol* Ocassionally I will use .5 oz per pound if it's a strong or very high quality FO.
  6. Oddly enough, I can wrap a gift beautifully, but I just can't do it backwards to save my life. The corners are never even. I have used PAM a few times before with regular CP, but I didn't really like it. It seemed to leave an oily residue on my soap that I couldn't get off.
  7. Yeah, the weight difference is amazing. I bought a bar from Brenda about 2 years ago, and have been wanting to make it ever since. Such a light fluffy soap. If mine is half as good as hers, I'll be happy. And I gotta admit, I love the ease of making it. The downside is that this stuff seems to stick to molds. I lined this batch with freezer paper, but I'm just not a good liner. I always end up with curved bottoms on my soap. So, now I'm either being brave or dumb, and I'm going to try an unlined batch. We shall see how it goes....
  8. Love those colors! What did you use, if you don't mind my asking?
  9. Turned out better than I expected. I haven't attempted to clean them up yet, but I have a feeling they'll just be for personal use. I had to cut these with a knife, so they did crumble somewhat. By the next batch, I hope to have a wire cutter made. *pokes DH*
  10. I should be around a lot more often now. I've missed this place soooo much!!! We didn't have internet access for the longest time. Then I got married, and now I'm 4 months pregnant. But soap and candles were at the back of my mind the whole time! *lol* I finally got the willpower to get my butt in the kitchen a few days ago. Was going to do some mottles or rustics, but I don't have any stearic left. So I did a whipped butter last night, and just finished a whipped soap tonight. I'm taking advantage of DHs stand mixer.
  11. K. I wasn't aware that they weren't a soaper...
  12. I know it was stated in the first post that she left out the oil. Yes, I did read that. But I just think that OverSoyed was just trying to help. And yes, I browse the boards, I've been a member here since 2005... but forgive me, yes, it has been a few months since I've been here.
  13. I don't think she was trying to say it's ok to leave out one of the oils. I make soap, and I think the cake analogy fits, to a point. Say for instance, you forget to add the FO to your soap... Is it ruined? Nope. Perfectly fine. Or you meant to add sugar to help with the lather, and you forgot it. Again, perfectly fine. She said: "I'd suppose it would depend on what exact item was left out. When you are baking a cake... you can leave out the pinch of salt and be fine, but if you forget the eggs... :tiptoe:" Meaning if you forget your FO (salt), it's ok. But with oils (eggs), you will have a big problem if you leave them out. Key point is just to know your ingredients, and what you can and cannot leave out. And even if it is a newbie trying to make the soap, I'm sure they will be made well aware of the dangers of lye. Every soap site or book I've ever seen well advertises that fact that it's a dangerous chemical.
  14. That blue is just gorgeous!!! I'd love to see this wax in a sea foam green.
  15. Hmm... Oh well. I only made it for me anyway. I left it in the fridge for a bit, came back and it whipped up perfectly. But why do I have the sneaking suspicion that this stuff is going to be rock hard in a day or two? It may end up being more of a belly balm instead of butter. At least it's scented Lemon Meringue, that stuff smells good enough to eat. Hopefully it'll keep my strech marks at bay over the next few months.
  16. My whipped shea is not fluffing up like it should. It's seems to never get past a thick pudding like consistency. The recipe I came up with is: 5 oz. Shea Butter 3 oz. Cocoa Butter 3 oz. Babbasu Oil 1 oz. Apricot Kernal Oil Then I added 0.05 oz FO and a little Dry Flo AF. Anyone see problems with the recipe? This is my first time making a whipped butter.
  17. Do anyone know how comparable these two are? I absolutely fell in love with ICS's Storm Watch, and then they stopped selling it. :rolleyes2
  18. Thank you so much! Now I can go make a mess in the kitchen.
  19. Is there a formula that I can use to figure out how much wax I will need? My molds are 2" x 3.5" and 3" x 3.5". The CT calculators seem to be down, and I'm dying to make some candles.
  20. Those Snow White soaps are gorgeous! How did you get all the different colors so perfect? I just make a mess when trying to do that...
  21. Olive oil in soap recipes usually discolors to a greenish or yellowish hue, especially if there's a high percentage of the OO. Regardless, it's gorgeous!

  23. I'm on the northeast end. About an hour from Knoxville. I have Aztec and Tenn. Candle Supplies about an hour away in each direction.
  24. I have the same problem. I'm hoping spraying them with Pam will work. It's odd though, because my first couple of batches in them didn't stick. And I started CP with a wooden box from the Wal-Mart craft section.
