  1. Making mottled candles the way you like them to look is a process of experimentation. What you want is to load the wax with your fragrance (or mottling oil) so that it can't all be held in the wax. The oil seeps out causing a mottled look. The more steric you add, the less mottling you will get because steric helps bind the oil in the wax. Also different fragrances will mottle less, some alot. So some mottle well with 1/2 to 1 0z. pp. Some people have used 1/2 tsp with this wax and some use only the wax, color and UV. HTH. Hope someone else chimes in here, because there are some members who make stunning mottled candles.
  2. I use the same wax and usually start out my testing at lx 12 because that's often the one that turns out to be the best for me.
  3. Not sure if you are making pillars or container candles. However if you go to the Basic Instructions on the left sidebar of this page you will find directions for both types of candles. It talks about poking relief holes for pillars and the dip in the wax around the wick in containers and what to do. HTH
  4. They are lovely. Really like them both. Blue isn't my favorite color either, but those coud convince me to change my mind:cheesy2:
  5. I have a book with step by step instructions along with pictures at each step. I think it would be really hard to explain without pictures so you may need to get a book from your local library. Haven't attempted this process yet. It looks like lots of practice is needed.
  6. Thanks Eugenia and Donita. Glad to see you posting. Great looking crackles Eugenia. A dumb question though. How do you protect your wicks from getting saturated with water? Is heavy prewaxing them enough?
  7. Nice looking candle. Really like the color. I just made a candle with a glass tealite holder. The tealite was in a plastic container not metal. I cut a little piece of cork the same circumferance as the bottom of the glass holder. Then I put the cork circle ito the hole before putting the glass container with the tealite in. It worked very well. Was able to get everything out easily.
  8. The colors are great:grin2: . Nice job on the rustic look.
  9. The first mineral oil I used was from the drug store. I couldn't get it to mottle in straight paraffin at all. I told this to a supplier who sold mottling oil. He told me the stuff i bought was too heavy so I bought mottling oil from him and it worked really well.
  10. Very pretty and unique.
  11. Amazing. Really love the white ones. Think those would go over well for weddings.
  12. Love the candles. Love the colors:thumbsup:
  13. Thanks you all for your nice comments. Had fun doing these. May get back to candle making again after we complete our house reno.
  14. Looking good. Its a hard to do technique. Tried it several times and got frustrated. Looks like you got it right!
  15. Haven't made candles for awhile but made these as a gift. The decorated candle was wicked only in the top three inches. Wanted to put a tealight in the top but that's not what was wanted for the ceremony. Have left instructions for it to be returned to me and I will use my power saw to cut the top off and then will drill it for a tealight for the future (anniversaries). Have done this in the past. Have posted two pictures so you can see that the candle was cold poured and quite translucent. On the test burns it really glowed through. Hope the pictures show up ok
  16. Using the "angle iron" concept for levelling and testing how level my pillars are after using my home made one with a tiny level. Makes the burns soooo much better.
  17. Those are soooo pretty. Would love to see and smell them burning. Guess technology hasn't progressed that far yet:cheesy2:
  18. I use the angle iron idea, but had my son make me one from two pieces of heavy thick wood wood. I make sure I don't have my Presto pot at more than "warm" setting, and use a piece of paper under the piece of wood. It wooks perfectly and I've not had a probelm since. I also have a tiny 3"level I sit on top of the canlde to make sure the candle is level.
