  1. You must have fallen thru the cracks somehow, cause that's unusual for BCN. I generally have tons of problems w/ BCS, but things seem to be better there. I ordered 4 boxes of EZ Soy yesterday at 4:30p & it was just delivered. The money hasn't even posted from my account yet, so call me pleasantly surprised! Is there anything we can help with or try to answer? Susan.
  2. I've made votives w/ EZ Soy for about 5 yrs. I've messed w/ different additives over the yrs & this is what I do now: 1 tsp PSA & .40oz beeswax per lb. The votives are quite sturdy, smooth, very little frosting & no cracks. Not sure how this mixture works w/ metal molds, since I'm a die-hard Dixie cup votive girl. It certainly can be done successfully & I really like this wax. Also, I use this formula for my votives & containers -- Susan.
  3. I've burned candles, that didn't sell, well after a yr of making them & (in soy) they were far better than when I 1st made them. Soy seems to better w/ age. I did have those candles stored in a glass container & have heard certain plastics will pull the fo out of them, so watch out for that -- Susan.
  4. OMG -- tonight was better than Christmas. Came home & saw a box on the front porch, but I'm not expecting anything, so dropped the pizza & ran for the door. Got 2 boxes & I can't imagine what I have. In 1 box were my 700 series wick samples from Wick It & this is just crazy! I expected a few wicks & that would have been great, but I have 168 wicks here!! They look super & I'm so excited about testing them. 2nd box has 3 Soy samples from Golden Brands - several lbs. each. How lucky to get both boxes on the same night. Anyone else had a chance to test both these samples together?? Susan.
  5. What about Lebermuth? They run amazing 2lb sales, but I tend to think of their fo's as total top of the line that a lot of the bigs use. They have a minimum $150. order. Great site that I go to for dreamin'. Susan.
  6. So much for the stupid lightbulb!! I have to go to a black tie debutante ball formal tonight & I absolutely hate dress up social crap. So, I asked if I would have fun tonight & the dumb bulb answered: I think you know the answer!!!! <grrr> Susan.
  7. Glad to find out it's not just me!! I liked it well enough at 1st, but CB is SO amazingly sweet & strong that I really dislike it. Not to the point of hating it (yet), but try to get it outta the house as fast as possible. And, as always, it's a top seller that I can't keep on the shelf! Add that to Murphy's Law of Candlemaking: If you dislike/hate a fo, it will become your best seller. Susan.
  8. Ok, try this site for the A&F (men's) http://www.ffandf.com/~alawac/cgi-bin/cart.cgi/soc79.html or here for A&F men & women dupes http://www.soapandthings.com/c-11-fragrances-soap-lotions-candles.aspx Looks like Herbal Hut also has both A&F men/women. Sorry, couldn't come up w/anything for Hollister. Good luck -- Susan.
  9. Yep, that's the same one I have. I personally tried this w/a Fresh Sliced Oranges & it just didn't work, but in all fairness, it's a fo that I can not get to burn in a candle & have wicked up to the biggest wick size I have. Just been too busy to think about it again, maybe soon. Let us know what fo you try & how it works. Susan.
  10. I have a mixture that I was given from another board. I'll dig it out. There was a running thread about which fo's worked & which clogged the stone. All the reviewed fo's were from BCN, since other boards are so uptight about acknowledging that any other supplier exists! I remember the main catch was you had to use a pure alcohol (91% or higher) & if you clogged the stone with a heavy or not usable fo you had to empty the mixture & burn pure alcohol to clean the stone. That's all there was to it, just alcohol & fo, but I'll look for the ratio. Susan.
  11. I add fo to EZSoy at 175 -180 -- I think if you're stirring really well you will notice a considerable difference going higher than 160 & a huge difference from 140. Susan.
  12. Isn't it crazy!?! I was in Hobby Lobby today & about stopped cold when I saw the Valentine displays going up. It just gets crazier every year the way they push ahead Seasons & Holidays. I've had a great Christmas this year, but almost always sell the most for Valentine's Day. I'm seeing a lot of small gift giving between office people, so it's getting to be a much bigger holiday than just sweethearts & school kids swapping cards. My biggest seller has always been the hammered glass votive holders w/a heart from Anchor Hocking, take a look http://shop.candlesandsupplies.com/candles/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=Candles&category%5Fname=Seasonal+Jars&product%5Fid=HV They're so pretty & I sell out dozens of these things. Susan.
  13. Another suggestion would be to look into AAA Candle Supply -- they're like 2 blocks away from Taylored. I don't use the wax you're asking about & I've never ordered from AAA, just thought it might be another option to consider. BTW, I've ordered a lot of fo's from TC & am in no way trying to steer business away from them -- they've always been great. Susan.
  14. I also work w/soy & found the fo's to be really good. Not a huge selection of 'current' scents, but really good basics. The LemonGrass is super strong, the Citronella & Lavender Creme are also super strong & all 3 mixed make a fabulous 'bug candle'. Mint Creme didn't rock my world. Pomegranate is nice, but I only use it to mix Bird of Paradise & it works great for that. Overall, you can't beat the prices, they ship very quickly, have great communication & offer flat rate/combined shipping. I read several boards & have never seen a bad review. Susan.
  15. I use Crisa (Libbey) 12oz Impression Barware glasses for candles. I recently had one crack after over a year & many refills. BTW, it cracked while I was cleaning it, not while burning. On the other hand, I've had an actual Libbey candle holder (very thick) break while burning. Again, it was a container I had refilled a number of times. These are both containers I sell new, but refill my own for personal use & testing. I don't pour gel, but those are often poured in regular glassware. Susan.
  16. I guess I can't truly answer this question, cause money always seems to be an object & therefore have never purchased the really pricey stuff that I assume is topnotch. I have it in my mind that Lebermuth is one of the very best & would probably go hog wild buying there. Before I answered this question I took another look at their site & stumbled on a big closeout fo sale. They have 2lbs for ... get this ... $12.50!! Their 2lb price runs between $40-60. Has anyone puchased from them?? Closeouts are on the right @ http://www.lebermuth.com/ Susan.
  17. Lucky you -- I JUST found a new supplier located in the Research Triangle. Their site looks good & their prices are great. Check out http://www.candlescience.com/ Don't know where you are in NC, but you may be close enough to drive & actually smell their fo's before you buy. That's always fun, till you start getting light headed from sniffing!! I've never bought anything here, but the recommendation came from a very good candlemaker. Has anyone here ever bought from this supplier?? Susan.
  18. You should have someone else test that candle for you. Don't tell them you think it smells funky, wait for their review. The simply explaination is that we all have different receptors in our 'sniffers' & we all pick out different high & low notes to a scent. Just cause you pick out certain notes doesn't mean others will. I personally hate any fo that smells like a cleaning product, but have found others don't pick up the harsh smell that I notice. Susan.
  19. I went to Michael's & used the 40% off a single item coupon they have in their ad every week. So I got a good gun with a good discount. Susan.
  20. ROFL -- ok, this just keeps cracking me up!! I had to go look at what I've accumulated & I may have bad news ... you still have Spiced Apple to look forward to!! lol Susan.
  21. Don't know where you are, but LoneStar is liquidating all their crocks. http://www.lonestarcandlesupply.com/pottery.html HTH -- Susan.
  22. You're right, Maryann -- it's a topic that gets confusing. I tried to keep it simple, but looking back, probably made it worse trying to keep it too simple. The REAL question probably should have been: Do you start with a weight of 16 or 20oz's wax? It made no sense to me that the person I'm arguing with would start w/20oz wax ... but after a long debate, they managed to have me confused enough that I had a hard time getting back on track & making my point clear! lol I agree with Barbie ...math is hard!!! Although, I have NO problem crunching numbers to get money numbers right! HA Susan.
  23. Thanks, all. Just want to confirm that I'm right & not crazy. Well, one out of two ain't bad!! Have someone trying to tell me I have to start w/20oz of wax. I've been weighing 16oz for yrs, but was willing to at least entertain the thought that I MIGHT be wrong. lol Susan.
  24. I've used these jars for about 2 yrs now & found I have to double wick to get a clean burn. I've never cracked a jar or had a complaint of one. I use zinc 51's. I recently saw a full display of Tyler Candle Co -- they use this same jar & also double wick. I've never tried CD's, so sorry, I can't make a comparison. Susan.
  25. Could ya'll keep us posted on this -- the prices are great. It woud be wonderful to have another supplier to fuel my addiction at a low price!! Susan.
