  1. LOL -- I've made candles over 5 yrs & have no idea what AFK means. I have such a potty-mouth, so that 'F' keeps throwing me down the wrong path ... maybe!! <g> Susan. ETA / Ummm, yeah, I was WAY off! ROFL
  2. If you have to wait, you can hit the top of the 1st layer w/ a heat gun & let it start cooling again. Then pour the next layer -- that way you have a warm base layer that you can now add a hotter 2nd layer to. Susan.
  3. I just saw a story on our local news warning everyone that the price of honey will soon be going up. The story said beekeepers are losing large numbers of bees & honey production will be greatly affected. Stands to reason we'll also see a increase on already pricey BW. Better stock up. Does anyone raise bees that can tell us more? Susan.
  4. PSA is just going to give you more hardness & opacity. UA is also for hardness & opacity, but will also help the oil bind to the wax & increase the burn time. So, w/ both these additives increasing hardness, there's no way I can use 1oz BW -- the wax cracks. I think the BW & UA both work to give you better throw. In truth, I really have no need for the PSA & UA together, but I don't want to retest a new formula right now. Susan.
  5. I may be wrong, but since I only use BW as an additive, I haven't found a difference in quality & go w/ whatever is closest & priced best. I use .40oz pp w/ my EZ Soy, but I also add PSA & UA. I've always heard 1oz pp is a good starting point to test what works for you. Susan.
  6. I agree. I don't have much interest in my Yahoo groups anymore -- this site is so much more informative & helpful. The Yahoo groups are very censored & cliquish & very few of the opinions posted reflect my interests. So, happy to find everything I need right here! Susan.
  7. If you live close enough to a World Trade Center / Market Hall you might be able to get what you need there. I've been to the one in Dallas & even though Anchor Hocking doesn't have a storefront, there are several distributors set up. If nothing else, it's a really fun day hanging out there! Susan.
  8. Thanks Sharon. I thought about going for the fo section, but only interested in soy results. So stuck close to where the sticky is for this topic w/ hopes it will remind people to send Vicky their results. Cause we really do look for them. Susan.
  9. I checked the sticky for fo's that work well in soy & no one has posted anything for Cajun Candle. Does anyone have any suggestions? I tested 2 samples I was sent (Vanilla Bourbon & Peony) & both worked nicely. Looking to order a sample pack, but would like to hear some reviews. Susan.
  10. If you have vybar sitting around - try it. I never have, but know several that swear by it. I use EZ Soy & have added BW, UA & PSA over the yrs. I currently add small amounts of all 3 together & love the results. It's just a matter of testing till you find what works best for you. I hate hearing people say 'you can't' do something. I'll try anything once!! Susan.
  11. Yeah -- if you have a hot throw the plastic has only pulled the scent from the outside & will still give you good results when you burn it. I would suggest going to a dollar store or Big Lots & picking up a few of the plastic shoe boxes for storage. I bet you can get a cold throw back w/ proper storage. I have a few dozen shoe boxes & swear by them. Good luck. Susan.
  12. Certain plastics will pull the fragrance out. Did you test one to see if it still has hot throw? Susan.
  13. Well, I found it interesting & think it does matter. Why? Because I live within driving distance of both locations & if they're the same I would certainly choose the closer of the two. Also, what if I had purchased from one & wasn't satisfied w/ the product - then it would be a huge waste of time & money to buy from the second. There are several reasons this is valuable information & personally appreciate knowing there is a connection. Susan.
  14. Thanks for checking into that! Didn't think I saw anything about it, but wanted to double check. I'll check back in a few days. Susan.
  15. Is there a link to the newsletter? I took a quick look & didn't see the newsletter or an area to sign up for it. I'll have to go back when I have more time to look. Susan.
  16. I'll see if I have any sitting around to get a pic of. You really don't notice the sand, since its such a thin layer at the bottom. I use just enough to make the bottom level. It does take a little finesse to pour the wax without moving the sand all around. I try to pour really cool directly onto the tab -- just enough to cover the sand. Let that cool & you can fill the container without worrying about the sand. I've thought about using colored sand, but didn't want to get into all the colors. I get the sand at Home Depot - bagged as either pool sand or sand for sandboxes. It will last forever! I think it's a pretty cool tip, but no one ever seems to appreciate it. Hope yall like it as much as I have! Susan.
  17. I fill the bottom w/ fine sand to create a level base. Your wick won't move & the sand also creates a barrier to keep the glass from getting really hot on the final burn. Susan.
  18. I agree, I've deleted them from my saved 'favorites.' There's too many good guys out there to waste my time & hard earned money on a supplier w/ a crappy attitude & questionable ethics. Susan.
  19. Just the jar, no lid. Sorry, didn't think to mention that. Susan.
  20. I just got Peak's Ginger Peach. I don't have it in wax yet, but oob it's wonderful - a perfect dupe of Pier 1. Susan.
  21. Hate to be redundant, but Ginger Peach is a major fav. Anyone ever try Cinnamon Peach? Susan.
  22. Someone has this fo for sale in the classifieds. I didn't notice the price or supplier, just remembered seeing a post asking about it. Might want to check it out. Susan.
  23. Jade -- it's a Pier 1 dupe. It's especially great cause it's not a bakery or floral scent, so really fills a nice void. I LOVE this fo. For the person that posted Ginger Peach -- is that a Pier 1 dupe? May have to get that one. Susan.
  24. Well, even if the cost of the jar is a bit of a 'shocker' when your husband broke down all the costs it sounds like you're right in line for a normal markup. Some people run higher, some run lower w/ what their markets will bear. IMO, the smaller jars are always the hardest to make your markup on. BTW, my WalMart sells the 2oz metro jars in the craft section. I don't remember the price, but you might be able to shave some cost on that size jar. Susan.
