  1. Hey, ummm, GeekRunner ... could you please NOT start using EZSoy wax!?! lol Susan.
  2. Which do most of you go by when measuring your wax for a pound: 16oz or 20oz? I understand the difference between dry to liquid -- just wondering if most consider a pound from the starting dry weight or the finished liquid weight?? Susan.
  3. *bump* I remember seeing the pics & they were beautiful. I didn't pay enough attention or print that one, so I can't help you, but maybe someone will see this soon that knows how. Did you ask in the gallery section, seems like that's where it was posted. Good luck if you take a stab at it -- I bet they sell well. Susan.
  4. Yes, I've done it for about 3 yrs & (knock on wood) have never had a problem. I only do it after a long discussion on the safety risks & the details of how I will only be guessing at the proper wick for a container I've never tested. BTW, I've only misjudged wicking a container once & it was a 3 lb candle in a brand new container that I had to remelt & rewick -- not fun. All my refills contain the following message on the bottom of their receipt: We cannot test the containers you provide for refills & we cannot guarantee the safety of a reused & untested container. Any container used for multiple burnings will eventually crack or break. You accept full responsibility for burning any container you provide for refills. NEVER leave a burning candle unattended!! As far as trouble -- I charge $1. an ounce for refills. Susan.
  5. I'm testing a few from their current lineup right now. Lemon Bundt Cake & Autumn Spice both smell awesome in wax, waiting to burn. LBC is so great, no fuel or cleaner smell, very smooth & you can actually smell the frosting. Autumn Spice reminds me of something I've smelled before...can't put my finger on it. I pick up the clove 1st, but it's a perfect blend & a definate spicy fall scent. Blueberry Cobbler is very strong, but not a true fruit scent -- it's so sweet, like candy. If they still have Apricot Peach it's a must have. It's very strong & true -- flies off the shelf. If they still have Orange Dreamsickle -- skip it. Very nice scent, just doesn't throw very well. I do get requests for it, but feel bad selling any fo that won't knock your socks off. BTW, I use soy. I have 4 more that I haven't tested, but have learned not to give reviews out of bottle. HTH -- Susan.
  6. Great ... I've had so many requests for Sweet Pea & am getting ready to test some. Don't ya just hate it when you have a popular fo & hate to pour it!?! I don't really care for very many florals, but Plumeria is a top fave for me. Although, I have had a few that I didn't like .. it has to smell JUST like BBW. For my all time hate list: rose, lavender & patchouli. All 3 give me a massive headache & I can't get 'em out of my house fast enough. Susan.
  7. Fragrance Finder had this listed on Wholesale Supplies Plus. Wow -- for that price it better be dead-on!! HTH -- Susan.
  8. I'm not happy w/the Bayberry I used last yr & want opinions on a good thrower for soy. I lit a left over candle from last yr & it's still so weak. That thing should be so cured it knocks you over. New suggestions, please. Susan.
  9. HTH = hope this helps. At least you ask, I just fumbled around till I broke the code or someone else asked!! Susan.
  10. Last yr's bayberry candle was a really pretty crackle ball that held 6oz. Very deceiving container. It was so rounded that it didn't look like it held that much. Think I'll just do a votive flowerpot this year -- maybe a frosted red or green, if I can find them. I have some frosted blue flowerpots that I always fill with a holiday scent & call 'Blue Christmas'. Tick-tock -- better get hoppin'... Susan.
  11. There is a man that posts on another group named Alan Teather that gets rave reviews from the group members that know him. His site is: http://www.candleicious.biz/ Contact info: CANDLEICIOUS CANDLES 22 Tunstall Grove Hartlepool Teesside TS26 8NH HTH -- Susan.
  12. Thanks, y'all. Yes, this would be for candles & room spray. I'll start making a few calls to the suppliers everyone has recommended to see how close I can come to BBW. Again, thanks for all the help!! Susan.
  13. I started w/just PSA, but found I would get deep cracks w/certain fo's. So, this is what I do now (& have done for about a year) & what I'm about to tell you will no doubt have more than a few people raising eyebrows & wanting to know why. I add 1tsp PSA & 1 tsp UA per lb. of soy. I will happily send a free votive to anyone who swears I'm crazy for using both additives. You can make votives without any additives, but they'll be too so soft & oily. I found PSA by itself to have too many variables, so I dropped the amount & went w/both. I have minimal frosting & my tops are almost always smooth & level. Curing varies, but you'll have better luck if you add the fo at 175-180 & stir a good 3 minutes. I know -- the wax instructions say to add at something like 130, but you won't get a solid hot throw at that temp. Also, stir several times as the wax cools. I always use 1.5oz fo & have never had any fo sweat out. I have many more ways to 'break the rules' w/this wax, so drop me a line if you have any more problems. I'll be glad to help. Susan.
  14. I've always used the following: This bayberry candle is a gift from a friend, On New Year's Eve burn it down to the end. A bayberry candle burned down to the socket, Brings luck to the house & wealth to the pocket. I've also seen it read Christmas Eve instead of NY Eve. It made more sense to me to say NY, since that signifies a new beginning. I got calls last year saying the candle I made was too big to burn in one night & if they had bad luck all year it was my fault!! I'm sizing down this year!! lol Susan.
  15. I've used EZSoy for 4 yrs & love it. I've seen Doneen (from BCN) post that EZSoy & KY are the same blend. I've always used the same wax for containers & votives. I make 3oz dixie cups votives & it works perfectly. I've tinkered w/various amounts of PSA & a soy blend UA. I think I'll try BW next to keep the wax natural. This wax throws great w/most every fo I've tried. If it's not throwing too well, let 'em cure longer. If it still doesn't throw then take notes & drop that fo. I use zinc wicks. A hard combo to master, but I like zinc for its rigidness. I leave most of my candles white then top off with a small layer of color for eye appeal. I get very little frosting with the small layer of color. HTH -- Susan.
  16. Does anyone know of a dupe for this? My Mom absolutely loves this scent, but our BBW didn't get any this year. I've never smelled it, so I'd appreciate help from anyone who has. Thanks -- Susan.
  17. I make my own & have been told that it smells just like Circle E or better. I like making it & having 3 fo's instead of just 1. Bird of Paradise is equal parts Strawberries & Cream / Pomagranate. I'm not a huge fan of this scent, but it's my very best seller. Also, the actual BOP flower doesn't have any scent & it always bothers me when I read a scent description that says 'smells just like the flower'. lol HTH -- Susan.
