They are FREE but mailing is $4.80 with them plus weighing. I might go back to the Wal Mart envelopes and figure shipping with those.They cost a little but not priority and seems what we are paying for.RIGHT??Just didn't seem wise after the order I sent today.I made no money. *Dee* Posted June 5, 2008 Share Posted June 5, 2008 i dont care for the priority mail envelopes, cuz they are cardboard, it has no insulation in them, it is harder to get anything inside, whatever you put in there has to be small enough to seal it, it has no flexibility to it.. Want to make sure they are protected and always mark fragile on them.Postmaster puts a a sticker marked FRAGILE. I can buy the padded envelopes at Wal Mart between 35 cents and over.Depends the size.It has been a few months but still after weighing it cannot always be the $4.80. It will depend on the order but right off the top is $4.80. For instance I had 2 orders.One for tarts and the other 4 car freshners. The 10 tarts toi mail were $5.60. OK since the envelope was $4.80 priority.Then the 4 small car fresheners were $4.80.YIKES.No charge for them but the cost of Priority. I have received at times those types of things in regular envelopes but not for me since a business. You can get creative with those USPS flat rate envelopes, but it takes a bit of manipulation. Carrie sent the secret soaper swap in those mailers and it had some weight, but everything came clear across the country to me undamaged. It depends on the items you are sending, IMO. Sometimes I stick a padded envelope or cut up folder in to help protect (if I have used ones to recycle). I love priority for the quick deliver, free DC and ease of printing at home. Mine had a mail "specialist" from halfway across the state call me and tell me I cannot use flat rate envelopes if the contents alter the shape of the envelope. Our local replacement post mistress took it upon herself to tattle, because she didn't like me using FR envelopes for anything but papers. I did attempt to mail a package out of town and I had taped the FR priority envie and they said it could'nt go in that due to the alteration from the tape..After I learned they were actually serious I took my envie back and waited the next day and went to my local one.Never had any problems from mine... Officially you aren't supposed to alter the shape of the envelope. I think when they came out with this envelope, it was intended for sending documents, which is why it isn't gusseted and you really have to wiggle hard to get a 3-dimensional object in there. Mailing anything in an inside out Priority envelope or box is actually illegal. The reason the materials are "free" up front is because the cost is built into the shipping price. People abusing the materials is one reason shipping costs keep going up...and up...and up.ETA: Or were you being sarcastic, oversoyed? Sorry! I get so fired up when I see that recommendation! lol. The seller had not only turned a priority box inside out but had used a padded UPS envelope inside to protect the contents!Both of these packaging items were brand new...no old addresses or postage tapes on them.
