mazz38
This is my first time making candles. I got the votive kit from Peak. The candles came out looking pretty good but when I went to burn one, the middle of the candle burnt first, leaving the outside of the candle standing. Can someone clue me in as to what I did wrong? Thanks!!

Scented
Is it tunneling as in going straight down, cuz if it is, chances are you have an air pocket.
Stella1952
What kind of wax and what size wick? I could go to their site to look, but...Off the cuff, it sounds underwicked...
cybersix
the middle of the candle always burns first. the melting starts from the center and goes to the side, if after let's say one hour it doesn't catch the edges then probably you have to test another wick.HTH
sudsnwicks
I'm assuming you're using the wax and wick from the kit, right? So I doubt if it's a matter of the wick being too small, as they would have sent you the correct items needed to make a proper candle. How long did you burn it? It is normal for the center to melt first, leaving the outside standing at first, but after a while the outside should catch up and the top should get completely melted. It should take at least an hour to get to that point but not more than two.
CareBear
I found out the hard way that you have to burn it to a full melt pool (or as close as you can) the first time you light it. Otherwise it will tunnel on subsequent lights.
