  1. I know it may be a stretch but you could trademark your recipe if it is unique? Still would be a stretch proving it in court i guess just seems beyond me right now.
  2. there are 16 trademarks from stinkbate to a game with the love potion number 9. So each seems to be by a different person. i dont get how they can pursue a trademark when they dont own it for candles which isnt bath and body unless they filed a trademark for candles?
  3. there are 16 trademarks from stinkbate to a game with the love potion number 9. So each seems to be by a different person. So unless your selling the same product they are out of luck.
  4. its not up all of the time i think only when allen is available since i seem to get him everytime i use it lol.
  5. I looked on free patent.com and noticed mottled candles have a patent to them. Is this valid can someone really patent a candle? Seems such a broad subject kinda like cookies or bread i can understand a recipe having a patent but somthing as broad as making candles can be. Any thoughts on this.
  6. I doubt you would lose any business or even they would be able to replicate your product lol without spending at least double what you did to get to the point your at. Lmao its funny i have a friend who also makes candles and we have tried to replicate each others candles by the generic terms we give each other and they come out messed up comparatively. I know personally i tell people how they are made i just dont tell them exactly what wick wax or any of the normal procedures.
  7. i am up to 5 pour pots my next is a presto pot =). Eventually will get to 1 per scent i enjoy making candles just wish i had more time and money (this is a hobby for now.)
  8. I use gb444 and so far in testing havnt had an issue with around 135-150 ish adding to the wax i have read many posts saying it is ok several saying it isnt ok, so i understand what is going on and true you didnt say it but another member on these boards. Basically said i was dead wrong for it. I have tested pouring my scent from 190 down to 135-140 so i have witnessed and smelt each one. I usually have 5 testers who rate each candle. They rate the lower poured best so far yet i have more work to do, still a few more things to perfect. Just like when i mentioned i added extra UA to my wax told me not to although i had tested this also from 0 to 2 tbs and found exactly looked the best and burned the best. I dunno sometimes i feel you guys read somthing then just post it back which is ok, but i know the risks and currently for me this is what is working. I test and read everything i can and have noticed you have to do what works for you in the end. I also have no problem changing a recipe if it doesnt work. So what is true today could be different with another scent. I just post what works for me not that someone is wrong for what works for them.
  9. I am confused i was under the impression if you buy 16oz bottle your getting 16 fluid ounces not 16 oz by weight? I know some scents are lighter then others, but when adding your scent to you weigh it or measure it in a liquid measuring cup? Currently i use a shot glass with measurements on it. Seems like every scent i have has a different dry weight to it. If i am suppose to dry weight everything this is going to be more confusing lol. Thanks for the interesting post.
  10. i only rinse it out once all the wax is out by dipping the pot in hot water it release good so i can just wipe the sides with a paper towel. I doubt a fraction of wax is any different than cleaning a greasy pot since grease kinda gets hard when it cools.
  11. usually just hit it with a paper towel when you done pouring then i keep dipping it in my hot bath until its clean leaving very little wax so then i just use very hot water till clean.
  12. funnu how on this board everything i do is wrong lol. It works for me yet its wrong thanks once again for discrediting the way i do my candles i think in the future i will just watch.
  13. Is the FO in the mix when the temp is at 170? If so i would suggest waiting till the temp is closer to you pour temp. You might be evaporating your scent. I personally mix in my scent at 135. also i dye my mix after i put in my scent due to you cant tell if its well mixed if you add the dye 1st. Some scents require more stirring then others. Also you dont need a second fill if you have either a heat gun or a oven with broil setting. I zap mine for a few mins in the over till the tops have a little melt to them. lately though my 1st pour has been great really havnt needed a 2nd pour.
  14. I have been testing a lot was just getting a feel for mixing it. I have tried it many times out of the bag but cant ever get it to look right maybe its me but the tops look bad and the melt is clumpy like cottage cheese. With the extra UA it gives me a great looking top and the burn is more level and constant:confused:.
  15. also a sharpie and a journal book or MS excel is very handy. I use the sharpie to mark on the container wick FO dye and wax/additive. This way when i make a bunch of samples at 1 time i dont get confused to what each one is. Also a small drill bit or sewing needle to create a hole for the wick. Making your candles wickless and adding a wick will save tons of wax when testing. Make sure to write everything you do down i write down wick size FO amount wax type and how much wax i use dye color dye amount weight of the container empty weight full and notes.
  16. does anyone mix 444 with any other soy product? I was thinking about mixing it with 416 or 464 just to experiment some, I was just wondering if anyone tries this or do they just use straight 444 out of the bag.
  17. Because it seems like a huge defference between my samples with it and without it. side by side from tops to the burn the samples with more UA seem to do better. I dont know just seems my findings. using 444 without extra UA doesnt do very well for me at all.
  18. havnt tried a blend trying to stay away from it but i have heard good things. I still have tons of testing myself to do especially with the additive and i was thinking of getting some 464 and mixing seeing how that goes and maybe adding like 10 percent of the 416 wax. Just a lot of testing for me to do still. So far I love my tops and past that lots to do still.
  19. universal additive i add 1tbs to 1 pound of wax i still am perfecting the recipe, but so far i am getting a good burn and nice smell. I use 8 oz tins and 16oz glassware.
  20. i use 444 with additive and i like them when i dont use the additive it creates a mess =p. I think if you play with it enough you probably can create the candle your looking for just not using 444 alone.
  21. Just curious what is your ratio to additive rate and how does it come out? Currently I am using 1 pound wax 1 TBS universal additive. I am just getting a feel for things i am thinking about going higher but trying to get a better grip of things.
  22. What brand and type of wax are you using? Are you preheating your container before you pour your wax are you using any additives? I know i use GB 444 wax and use 1tbs of Universal Additive per pound of wax and my tops look great if i heat my tins and glassware to 150 degrees in the oven. I never poke holes since it leaves a horrible line when i repour it at the most i hit the top with a heat gun and it helps.
  23. so even if your telling them 16oz candle only getting 13oz is ok? I was just making sure i didnt get into trouble for false advertising.
