firegirl
:yay: :yay: !Okay.. I got ambitious.. I read all the reviews on Brown Sugar and Fig.. I chickend out and went ahead with Lavender Amber and added silk fibers for good measure.. I attempted to swirl in the log mold.. base color was a bit greenish.. so the attempted purple swirl is kind of wierd looking. First batch and no major problems.. then I decided to grow a pair and said what the heck.. so I went ahead and made a second batch with the Brown Sugar & Fig from Peaks( with added TD and silk fibers) . Now I understand the difference from 2 fragrances and acceleration. I was expecting the BS&F to seize on me based on reviews I had read. It behaved perfectly! I used 1oz/# of oils and now understand how the first batch with Lavender Amber accelerated just a bit on me. I had tons of time on my hands with Peaks Brown Sugar & Fig.. what a fabulous surprise.. I did not even color it because I thought I would not have time. Goes to show that it does depend on the supplier for the fo. I will post pics as soon as I can. I have been dreaming about this day for so long .. Thanks to so many of you that post your creations on the gallery and even more for those of you that post your failures for someone like me.. I have been reading and studying for over a year.. I am just so darn proud of myself for taking the plunge.. now .. to just figure out which recipes will not have that olive oil green hue to it.. I can't wait to swirl in slabs!! :yay: Thank you everyone for answering all my questions!Teri

Scented
Way to go! I'm not going to ask how come you get a greenish hue with OO though.
Hibiscus
You're gonna be addicted...seriously addicted but congrats! oh and did the green come from using EVOO? I made LS with it and it was definitely green.

I made LS with it and it was definitely green.I did buy the EVOO.. I read after I had purchased it that you only needed to use the Pomace.. Will that eliminate the greenish hue? I used Quiet Girls recipe with 25% OO in it. I also used a recipe from Ann Watsons book.. The colors seem to be changing as I type.. I will just have to wait until they cure for a while.. firegirl
Okay.. I spoke to soon! My soap looked so awesome in the mold! I got them out and the Brown sugar and fig was a solid piece of what feels and looks like toffee! I cut it and it just crumbled! The Lavender Amber cut just like cheese. It smells great at least. I will post pics of both so you can see what I mean. I followed Ann L Watsons recipe on the failed batch. This is so wierd!

Awwww… I’m not experienced enough to have any idea what caused it… but I bet the second batch will cure harder. The first batch you can probably save by rebatching it… maybe chunk it into a new batch or even some M&P? You “old pros” out there… you’ll know…
EmpressC
So sorry to hear that, firegirl. But look at what a great learning opportunity this'll turn out to be. Cutting my first soap tonight (with fingers crossed). :embarasse
Brenda
Congratulations on your first batches! It will be interesting to see what the Brown Sugar and Fig looks like to help figure out what may have gone wrong for you.Every soaper gains valuable experience through batches that didn't quite work. :undecided Figuring out what might have gone wrong is all part learning to soap better. I always learn something when I do a new recipe or coloring attempt.Keep up the experimentation!

It was your posts with the Brown Sugar & Fig that scared me away from using it for my first batch. I have since read a post from CareBear that said she had the same experience with Med Fig.. could just be the fo.. I just followed the recipe in Ann's book to a tee.. I measured meticulously.. first batch I used Quiet Girls recipe.. it unmolded and cut perfectly.. so I suppose I can't complain. I just loved your "Lovely" soap.. I used that baby up in no time! It really is a fabulous bar of soap.. I am not so concerned with my soaps appearance at this point.. I just want some really creamy, rich, luxurious soap! I can always work on the rest later! You at least tried it and there are valuable lessons in our batches that don't turn out like we planned. Before you know it, you will be a seasoned pro. You are doing great and having fun. That is what is important.
