LovelyLathers
Yahoooo Good for you Ashlie! You will do fine. The only advise I can give you is have fun, relax and enjoy!!! You will do just fine. Remember that safety is first! Wear goggles, gloves, long sleeves, an apron sure helps. Make sure you take pics we want to see! diamondk
Hey Ashlie, I was nervous the first time because of the lye but you will find there is nothing to it once you are done. Just remember safety first and then have fun. I am a phone call away if you need to talk to someone.

I'm a total clutz, and I made it through my first batch last night!!! Yes Robin's tutorial is fantastic!!! I had that right beside, with DH turning the pages!!!!Just relax... you will be fine!!!! Once my lye was mixed I stuck it on the stove under the kitchen ventilator, so the fumes went right outside... cause it's freezing like heck here too!!Have fun Ashlie!!!! Kaybee23
My only advice is to always wear gloves while working with the raw soap, it burns like heck. Also, I wouldn't start with a floral FO, they tend to trace quick. Good luck on your first batch. I did my first batch about this time, last year and have been going non-stop since. mountainmadness
Good luck to you. I hope it turns out well.Use a well behaved FO... My first successful batch was Oatmeal, Milk & Honey. That FO soaps like a dream. Are you swirling or coloring your first batch?I would mix your lye now.... I have found that room temp. lye behaves much better.Let us know how it goes! :highfive: Jennifer
stacien
Don't forget to not inhale the fumes most of all when you are mixing the Lye with water. Mix it away from your face.
diamondk
Wear a mask if you got one to mix the lye and water.
mystical_angel1219
My advice is to follow ALL precautions with the lye.Storage, and when you are making soap. Especially with small children in the house, one can never be too careful, IMO.Long sleeves, goggles, gloves- label all your utensils LYE that you use. Also, make sure you use distilled water and you are completely UNDISTURBED when you create the soap. Add the lye to the water, and the water needs to be cold. You can do this, it is a very addicting craft.
