I think I am ready...

Ashlie K

Recommended Posts

to make my first batch of CP soap this evening AFTER my daughter is asleep.

I have the BIBLE (Robin's Tutorial), ingredients, and equipment.

I am nervous and excited all at the same time.

Right now I am stuck on which FO to use.

Any last minute advice before I do this? LOL

Oh yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!! :yay::yay: Way to go Ashlie!!!! Go for it... you can do it!! :highfive:

If I can do it, you can do it.. believe me!! I'm a total clutz, and I made it through my first batch last night!!! :laugh2:

Yes Robin's tutorial is fantastic!!! I had that right beside, with DH turning the pages!!!!

Just relax... you will be fine!!!! Once my lye was mixed I stuck it on the stove under the kitchen ventilator, so the fumes went right outside... cause it's freezing like heck here too!!

Have fun Ashlie!!!! :yay:

My only advice is to always wear gloves while working with the raw soap, it burns like heck. Also, I wouldn't start with a floral FO, they tend to trace quick. Good luck on your first batch. I did my first batch about this time, last year and have been going non-stop since.

Good luck to you. I hope it turns out well.

Use a well behaved FO... My first successful batch was Oatmeal, Milk & Honey. That FO soaps like a dream.

Are you swirling or coloring your first batch?

I would mix your lye now.... I have found that room temp. lye behaves much better.

Let us know how it goes! :highfive:

My advice is to follow ALL precautions with the lye.

Storage, and when you are making soap. Especially with small children in the house, one can never be too careful, IMO.

Long sleeves, goggles, gloves- label all your utensils LYE that you use.

Also, make sure you use distilled water and you are completely UNDISTURBED when you create the soap. Add the lye to the water, and the water needs to be cold. You can do this, it is a very addicting craft.
