I hate Google!!!!!

No matter what they say, Google has the complete control of the Net.

You see google search and google toolbar everywhere now. It's even on the home page of my phone company!

Google and its way of indexing sites it's problem not a solution. Why should my site get indexed ONLY BECAUSE other sites points to it?

What's the sense of this???

GRRRR I'm fuming. People use only google now but why? Because the "google searhc" is already there. It's in browsers, web pages, in mobile phones.

I'm venting because I had a google ads campaign going on. the provider offered 45 euros to try the campaign. Well since i have no intentions to pay for ads (at least not at this stage) I stopped the campaign.

Visits to my site are now zero. Before I had 25-30 visits per day (not so much, but it's always something) and now it's constantly at zero.

But if I search myself using Yahoo or MSN I'm on first-second page!!!!

The same search on google doesn't produce results. I got tired after checking by myself upo to 100 pages.

I can't understand why a company can have such a predominance and impose its way to use the internet, only by ads or referring links.

GRRRR GRRRRR

(sorry for venting)

Ah there's no much I can do about it.

But the whole thing is a lot of smoke in the eyes. Where's the sense of being referred from sites that are similar to yours? Should you expect that your competitors put a link to you on their sites??? Or should I point my visitors to competitors sites??

It's a big BS.

I'm wondering how much time it will take before google gest sued as Microsoft has been sued for their monopoly.

Everything internet related belongs to Google.

Internet WAS free, everyone had the opportunity to be there and now you have to pay!

Sorry but tonight I'm really upset!!

Don't blame you. DH and a partner of his had a company that drop shipped electronics. Google placement was everything because a ton of websites do the exact same thing (you can tell because they always use the same pictures and descriptions :) )

Anyway, about 2-3 years ago Google made an extreme change in their ranking software. And DHs company dropped off the map. It was amazing - one month their hits was normal, good turnover rate, next month their hits went to about a tenth.

Needless to say they both hate Google :)

We don't care for Google either. We have a store. We get many, many calls a day for a hotel here in town. A google search will give OUR telephone number instead of the hotel's. We have done everything under the sun for the past year to stop it. Once we finally got in touch with Google, and the problem was stopped for about two months. The hotel says they have tried everything they can but can't get their number to pull up. For a while we would give the hotel's correct number to callers, but after we started getting repeat calls (the callers admitted they did not write the number down and decided to call us, since we knew the real number) we tell the callers they have the wrong number and hang up. The hotel is fine with this. They are as frustrated as we are.

Personally, I think they're getting too big for their boots. My hubby can't stand Google. He does a lot of stuff on the Internet. He has a load of information sites and earns a bit from Google adsense. He's given up though on trying to get his sites on Google. About a year ago there was a Google dance and and now none of his sites are indexed.

He just concentrates on getting them onto Yahoo and MSN. He says that if you get your sites onto the smaller search engines they eventually get crawled by Google. Just don't bother with Google as it is too much of a headache.

I used to love google, I'd search and click a site and I'd get right to it. Now it's so screwy, I thought it was only me. Everytime I click a link I get an ad page. WTf is up with that? Searching has become a real pain. :undecided

I know what you mean. You never seem to get the stuff you're searching for! Can't wait till Wiki search engine comes online. Apparantly there will be humans checking the site owner's submissions rather than using complex computer algorithms.

No, I don't think so.

They know exactly what they are doing and why.

They earn so much money from all the things they do, but are those things legit? Or better, do those things really provide a service to the users?

They make you think you have to pay to be found on the net.

They make you think they are the best search engine just because they pay the major companies to put up google-related service.

They are for the net exactly what Microsoft is for software.

I mean they offer services that are not so wonderful but with all the ads and marketing now we think that to search the web you have to use google. In your country there is this new verb, "to google", isn't it sufficient to understand the point they are arrived?

We don't say yet just because it would be too complicated to say!!! lol

Do you want a map? Google. Do you want a shopping cart? Google. What's the search engine included in almost every browser? Google. What's on the iPhone from Apple? google.

So everyone of us will have to pay in order to get some internet business.

Yes that is correct. It has turned into a verb here. People go to google as the default search engine whenever they want to look something up. At this rate the other search engines might as well not exist to them.

My personal complaint with them is that they seem to lack consistency. One day all my webpages will be there and the next day some of them will have mysteriously dropped off. Whereas when I look myself up in yahoo or msn the webpages will be consistently there.

Very true. There is more consistency with Yahoo and MSN. Google are too fickle. Plus, did you know that people who use MSN as their main search engine tend to be more affluent shoppers? There may be fewer searches but the people have more disposable income - allegedly.

Personally, I tend to use Yahoo as I can choose to search either all the web or narrow my searches down to just UK based sites.

Google can be your friend. Try reading up at http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/?hl=en for some helpful info. As far as ad campaigns or promoting your business, it should be treated like any other advertising medium. If you have a candle store than promote it yourself by optimizing for google or hire someone to promote it for you. If you were just a hobbiest who enjoyed making candles you would have articles or a blog and related links that would help you. I would just come to terms with the fact that everyone (80% of online users) "google it" it has become the new phonebook.

«:::G:::» «:::o:::» «:::o:::» «:::G:::» «:::L:::» «:::E:::» is an example of capitalism to the extreme. Those who know how to optimize Google are making big dollars. I have done a lot of reading on it, very interesting actually.

Check the stock GOOG on Nasdaq- this is one to have in your portfolio.

Sabrina, you are right- they are definitely ruling the web, IMO.

No I hadn't known this. Did the article mentioning this give any possible reasons as to why?

Why should I optimize for one search engine? Internet has its own rules, they are valid rules for everyone except for google. It's jus like Microsoft that instead of following the common standards tries always to impose its own formats.

Microsoft is doing its "personal" version of PDF. Tried to do so with images and audio formats.

Internet explorer is the less standard based browser.

People don't know many things and who uses Google as Internet explorer think they are using the perfect instrument. This is a forced behaviour because of the advertising and massive presence.

Well, all I can say is I LOVE GOOGLE!! Why? Because unlike other search engines that bring up all kinds of garbage that's not what I need, typically a Google search will bring up exactly the page (or type of page) I am searching for within the first couple of listings, and over 50% of the time it's the first listing. I presume this is because it uses people's links to rank...people don't link to crappy ad pages generally!! This is a positive, not a negative in my mind.

Yahoo and MSN have irritating paid links first in their results...I prefer Google's because it solves a problem for me.

I buy stuff based on Google searches every. single. day.

I agree I love google. I used to be a diehard yahoo user until google came along. Yahoo searches are slow sometimes and they have too much junk on their pages. Microsofts live.com is trying to compete with google, it's not too bad, I use it once in a while.

Well they are on my hit list as well. LOL One month I'm really high in the rankings, next month I'm ... whatever.

I prefer MSN or Yahoo, and use those search engines because IMO, the results are often more relevant. I hate all the bogus Google returns you get. I've done searches on usage rates for goat milk powder in soap, and gotten PORN sites. :(

And just to prove all the search engines aren't the same, my ranking on MSN last time I checked was super high, moderate on Yahoo, and crummy on Google. A few months back, my rank on Google was awesome. Whatever.

EVERYONE VOTE WITH YOUR SEARCH ENGINE CHOICES. USE the other guys! :laugh2:

Also, for those of you who follow your website stats, check out which bots crawl your site most often. Interesting ... and I'm voting with my choice of which search engine I personally use. ;)

P.S. My brother hates Google too, and he uses Yahoo's search engine. So there. :laugh2:

Glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing inconsistencies with them. Every now and then I have pages disappearing off their index for no rhyme or reason (sometimes even my main page!) and then after some time (like a week or two) they reappear.

Well I am not a huge google fan, but it might be great to work for them. Did anyone see the the CNN special about google and all the perks you get as an employee? They have an arcade, massage therapists, spas, etc all for there employees. There were more perks, can't remember them all, but I was like sheesh how nice would that be!
