I would say 10 years of marketing and sales would help. The success of MaryKaye, Avon and Pampered Chef would make some people want to jump in quick. There's good money to be made at the top of the pyramid. It doesn't say she started making candles in 2006 - just launched this biz. If it's quality product, it will work.

They are buying bases from Essential Wholesale and have a real sweet markup.

For instance, the Peppermint and Tea Tree Shampoo by Marlo sells at $8.00 for 4oz. Buying the base in large bulk runs about 20 cents per ounce before shipping.

That's if they are bottling it themselves. Add in packaging, labels, etc., and they should still be below $1.50 invested per bottle. Multiply for retail and more than likely they have a couple of bucks left over to pay the consultants.

Actually, the whole setup seems to have been done beautifully as far as keeping consumer costs within reason for home party products while allowing both the business and the reps to make their cuts.

So with a bit of planning ahead, in reality, anyone here could do the same thing.

That's very interesting! The website is beautifully done as well as their products.

You know, I just bought a MQ candle because I was very curious and I can definitely say that they took NO time into testing this particular fragrance I bought.

I can say that with confidence because the candle I bought had a very strong fuel smell to it and not like the actual fragrance at all. It's a pity some people don't take more pride in their products and are out for the almighty dollar. Don't utter a word to a rep about anything though - because I'm sure they will attack you like this particular one did to me. Said I was a liar and the reason I said the candle was bad was because she was my direct competition & would NOT be offering any kind of refund regardless if I sent the candle back or not.

PFFFTTT lol - the competition remark was the funniest thing I heard that day and I think I laughed so hard I peed a little.

Maybe this explains that crappy candle.

Q. How long has Marlo Quinn been around?

A. The Direct Sales portion of the company is completely new and launches in July 2006. However I have been making candles for the last year and experimenting with different natural skincare items over the last couple years. I decided in October 2005 that I wanted to take Marlo Quinn in the direction of a Direct Sales company. I have spent many months researching product, and coming up with my game plan.

Her site says she has over 10 years in marketing and from the looks of what she has accomplished so far I'd say she has that part of the business down-pat.

No I didn't - not really worth my time, plus I would probably get the same response from them too.

I really don't get how they think they(reps) are even on the same level as candlemakers/B&B makers. I mean, come on - blow all your rent money on supplies and wonder how you are going to eat this week, then come and talk to me LOL

*statement circa 2002...not now!*

This is what I have read about MQ, they are having shipping problems. Reps not getting their orders or not getting them in a timely manner. That's what you get with little or no start up fee. I have also read that sweetcup cake owner was once a rep for MQ, and found out who their supplier was and started her own company. I don't think MQ makes all of her products, she may make some but not all. It's not unheard of in DS. Unless she just started making her own products because of the Sweetcup cake thing.

Yeah, I've actually heard the same thing.

I ordered my candle on a Thursday morning about 3am and I didn't receive until 14 days after. I don't get it - if you are going to add the direct sales or reps to your business, you better DAMN well have the inventory to send out within 24 hours. If you can't do that, you shouldn't be adding that arm to your business.

Call me crazy, but no order I've ever done (retail of course) has taken longer than 5 days to ship - and that is when we have a sale, special or there is a holiday.

Said it before and I will say it again - if you can't handle what you have now, don't keep adding fuel to the fire!!! I really don't get some of those companies out there and I could list tons and tons that are doing the same damn thing.

(this subject gets me all riled up - can ya tell?? lol)
