Candlelovr
Is anyone particularly fond of these wicks? They seem to burn well as far as dancing and smoking, but since they're not self trimming, the wick starts leaning which causes one side of the candle to have a thinner shell than the other. Im thinking I dont like these wicks and probably wont use them anymore, unless someone has suggestions for me on how to keep it from leaning to one side. Maybe I should keep it trimmed even during the test burning but how many consumers out there blow out their candle, trim the wick and re-light it? Im trying to do things during testing that I think consumers will do, so that I can properly wick it to be safe. I did prime the wick but I just used the same wax (astorlite F) that I used to make the candle. Any suggestions? Thanks!!!
topofmurrayhill
They're supposed to lean. Theoretically it gives them some self-trimming characteristics. I don't use them normally but they seemed to burn nicely when I tried them.
AngelaVA
They are supposed to lean and the other side will catch up eventually and even out. I like the way they burn in the soy waxes and soy blends I've tried. I've never found the need to trim while burning though
Scented
Boy when I used them I didn't have to trim alot either.
smart tart
I use only RRDs in the F wax - I found it was the only wick that would even begin to burn correctly! I also have never found a need to trim and have had no problems with them.
faithsem
I have used the RRD's with a combo of J223/Soy-125 and they work extremely well...they curl nicely and have a good flame...
Georgia
I'm rather liking them also. I think they smoke less than HTP.
tangerine
Someone mentioned to me that RRD wicks are directional and that there is a right side up to them. I'm not sure if this is correct info though.

I like RRD 47 in my Astor F pillar..it took 5 hrs for it to blow out on me so...Imma stick with it

Is there a wrongend and a rightend?? How can you tell?? TIA, Carole
Henryk
I was told the RRDs were directional - and that inverting them does make them curl (I should say "bend") less. I've never tested it myself.
Georgia
I don't know about the bend part, but they are directional and are designed to pull the wax up into the wick. Seems to me they wouldn't work well upside down.

TIA, CaroleThere is a right way up according to Wicks Unlimited, but unfortunately I have no idea how you can tell. The few I've played with were wick assemblies so hopefully somebody already did it right. Maybe you can ask the supplier.
Henryk
I just looked at all of mine in my sample pack to try to help you, but they are so thickly primmed I can barely see the "v"s on them. Sorry.
bugtussle
Thanks guys! HenryK, I think I can see a V on my unwaxed spool. Which way would the V go, point toward fire or away from it? I did a test with a wick assy. Cut off top half and put both in half burned tin with top part going different directions. Could see no dif in burn. I'll contact CandleWic.
