Grani L
Ok- So I am getting back around to testing soy candles and am shaking my head a bit. - My current situation is 464 soy wax. Jar - is a 12 oz. Status Jar - 3 inches in Diameter. Wick = cotton wick and looking back over old notes, I have experienced the tall flame with CD's and Ecos also. Scents ranges from 6 - 9 percent. At about 3-4 hours, can someone tell me why the flame gets soo high? This to me is dangerous - especially if some would burn the candle all day long. Is there something I can add to 464 to help bring the flame down to a decent size?

kandlekrazy
So the flame did not calm down at all? I use the status jar and a C60 cotton core wick, but I use C3 and never more than 6% fo. Sometimes I get a flame larger than I like for the first 15-30 mins but it calms down after that. I'm fairly certain it's the fo because it doesn't do it all the time and I really try hard to replicate the room conditions on every candle tested. I also make sure my wick is trimmed before I light the first time, after that, I only take off mushrooms if they form. I don't trim because I'm sure customers don't trim. logcabinmomma
I use cd's with 464. Since 464 has such a low melt point, room temperature makes a huge difference in melt pool and flame size. Is your room warmer than normal? A CD 14 would be my normal starting point with that jar.
