  1. It smelled great and threw good, but only lasted about four hours in my parasoy. I'll let it cure a couple more days for the final testing. Bummer.
  2. I've been testing CS Grapefruit Mangosteen today and wow, what a thrower that is and I like it! Just wondering if anyone has it in their line and if you renamed it or left it as is. I can't imagine what else it could be called. Any ideas? Thanks!
  3. People do stupid stuff and always will. That's why the "mayhem" commercial for some insurance company is so realistic! My daughter and I did a really stupid thing once with a candle and it wasn't even lit. It was years ago when she lived with me. I had boughten one with groceries and when putting stuff away, set it on a stove burner for the moment. Awhile later she went to make something in a frying pan and turned on the wrong burner. She was 18 at the time, so no little kid, but just wasn't paying attention. Why she turned the burner on first, I don't know. Within about three minutes the bottom of that glass jar cracked and the wax that had melted on the bottom from the burner being on spread everywhere and it was instant fire. It was so bad so fast that I said, "Get the dogs!" It was so out of control I saw no way to stop it and was ready to jump ship. She grabbed a bag of flour (which I wouldn't have thought of!) and smothered it and the fire did go out. Most people would have thrown water on it which would have made it even worse. Holy S!! You talk about a mess to clean up. It was so stupid to do (didn't tell her that, but she knew it) and more of an act of going through the motions of life without really paying attention which we all do all of the time. You run on auto pilot. Like when you get to work in the morning and it suddenly hits you... how did I get here? So many things on the mind you just follow the road without even thinking or paying attention. Learned a lesson from that though. I put all important papers in an accordion folder in a cabinet by the back door (assuming I could get out that way) that can be quickly grabbed and I always have a ten pound bag of flour on hand whether I use it or not because a grease fire can happen as well. It was a good lesson in how quickly things can get out of control. Jackie
  4. Sounds like I need to get busy. I had planned on doing all of this, not just at the moment. I will go ahead and meet with them next week, but I'm not keen on consignment simply because of time restraints with my job, helping my elderly mother, etc. I feel like if I take them a melter and samples, they should know in time if they want to make a purchase or not. I think I need to look at it like why, just because I'm local, should I be treated differently than any other vendor they do business with? They don't take anything else or much else on consignment if anything, I'm sure just from looking at the products they sell. Thanks everyone for all the help, sure appreciate it!
  5. Would I call the local chamber of commerce to find out or the county something? I am wondering also, should labels I take in on packages have my website address? It isn't finished, but will be soon. I'm just wondering what businesses think about that. If the website is on there people can go to it and see things would be cheaper to order online than with the markup from a business selling your products. Of course, people can do that anyway - I would, but how is this handled when a second party sells your product? Just want to redo labels if necessary before I take them anything if that is the case. Thanks so much!
  6. I had a local shop send me a facebook message that they were interested in gift items after someone told them about my tarts. I wrote them back and gave them my facebook page to look at as my website is under construction at the moment. I didn't think I'd hear back so quickly, but within hours they sent me a message "We want to talk to you! Please give us a call and we can work out taking your products on consignment or purchase them outright." Outright is better, right? This is new to me. So new in fact, that I don't have any kind of a license to sell to a shop yet. What would I need to accomplish this? I had planned on going sole proprietorship and I don't think I need a federal ID, but do I need state or a city license? This is an area I haven't explored yet. I can do searches, but since this happened so fast I was hoping someone could give me some quick advice to get the ball rolling like ASAP. To stall and not lose their interest, I thought I would go see them and take a melter and samples they can try in their shop to generate their interest and willingness to wait until I can get all of this in order. Is that a good idea? Shaking in my boots here! Thank you, Jackie
  7. Thanks everyone. I've gotten burned in the past ordering from places that provide no scent descriptions. I mean some sure you just know what they're going to be, but the ones that sound intriguing I've been disappointed by so I'm kind of avoiding those places these days. I can't imagine why a business wouldn't take the time to provide scent descriptions to their customers. Seems like they're obviously sending business elsewhere to places that do. Tart green apple might have to go off the list. Most I've tried have way too much sweetness to them making them just a tad bit different than MacIntosh. Sure miss some of the oils I used to get from Miami Erie. The Green Apple Explosion is one and Orange Marmalade Pastry is another. Not sure where they ever got their oils from or where Front Porch (who owned ME) gets theirs now, but I haven't had any luck replacing them from any supplier I've tried.
  8. I went and looked around. Lots of scents, but am I missing descriptions or do they not have any?
  9. I've never ordered from them and assuming thunder won't strike me into "budget mode" in the next few minutes, I would likely order some more samples while looking around... LOL. Any other favorites from there you'd like to share? Sure appreciate it! Jackie
  10. Does anyone know of a strong sour green apple scent? Miami Erie had one called Green Apple Explosion that was out of this world. It would actually tickle those little buds behind your tongue it was so realistic. So far I've had no luck finding anything similar. I've tried both from NG and not even close. Tried a couple of others and I'm about to give up. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jackie
  11. My cups look just like that and are by Newspring but they clearly have the "2" on the bottom. Weird. Glad you were shipped the right ones!
  12. http://www.webstaurantstore.com/dart-conex-150pc-1-5-oz-plastic-souffle-portion-cup-2500-case/301150PC.html They DO actually say polypropolene! Yeah!! Thanks Dolphin for leading me in the right direction. Bank account will be a little lighter today, but that's a good thing this time! Jackie
  13. Do they have that number five on the bottom of them like I guess they are supposed to? If they do then I can place an order today. Maybe Dart is the name brand that's ok. Ellipso cups I have also say two. I could sell all of these to a deli I guess.... LOL thanks!
  14. I made clams with 6006 all of the time. Never mixed it with the Clarus because they are so similar I don't know what the advantage would be in that. Or I think they are similar. Someone can correct me I'm wrong.
  15. I went there to look around and thought about getting some samples, but most I wanted are "sold out." A lot of them are sold out at the moment.
  16. I just looked at the bottom of all my stockpile now of portion cups from webrestaurantstore. So, Solo's are 2. The last batch I bought were the oval Newspring 1 ounce cups and they also have a #2. Does anyone have a link they can send that actually will have the #5 on there so I can be sure? I thought the Newspring brand was an ok one to use. I don't want to waste anymore money on these things at this point! Thanks!
  17. Hoping to revive this thread as I'm soooooo confused on the portion cups to get!!! Suzy, you said yours have a #5 on the bottom, but when I clicked on your link it says polystyrene in their description and I thought that was the bad one. I can't find a supplier anywhere that specifically says polypropelene. I know the #2 is not good from experience. After a couple of months the bottoms fell out of them after sitting with a poured tart inside. Does anyone use a portion cup that they are sure is the polypropolene? Any help would be appreciated! I got the oval ones awhile back, but that doesn't say either. They are more heavy duty and seem more durable, but I have a problem with the Avery labels sticking to the surface of them. Thanks! Jackie
  18. A good wax to start with if you just want tarts for yourself is 6006 - parasoy. I used it for a long time and then eventually came up with a blend of my own, but it was easy to use and gave great scent throw with most oils. Some oils will be weak no matter what you do or use. I know it might be different for others, but I do remember that five days was like my magic cure days number to get a good throw with that wax. If I were you, I'd do a search of the company you're looking at to get scents and then do a search on that scent and get the opinions of others. Nine times out of ten I should have listened to what people were saying but no............ lots of money down the drain and I realize now that if these experienced people didn't have luck with a scent what makes me think I will? Stick with well known companies for FO's like Peak, Candlescience, Rustic Essentuals, Nature's Garden, Indiana Candle Supply, etc. You will use 1 - maybe 1.2 ounces per pound. I always went to the highest point making tarts since wicking issues weren't a problem. The only reason I switched from 6006 was because I wanted to sell and it's a softer wax and smeared on the cello bags and I was worried about shipping in the summer. I got a presto pot, put the wax in and heated to 190. Added FO at about 185 by the time it got put into another smaller pan to mix (this wax is good to clean up, very easy) and stirred for about a minute and then poured into shot cups or molds. I don't have a spigot on my presto pot so I just ladle it out with the pan on the scale to get the number of ounces I'm making. I made a chart to keep on the wall for each ounce and what FO amt. would go into that portion based on the 1.2 oz. per pound. You do need a scale as wax and FO needs to be measured that way. I think you'll be surprised at how good these will be using this wax. I know everyone has their favorite, but for just starting out for yourself, it's so much easier to not blend waxes. You'll get tons of answers in the FO section and by doing searches. People here are so willing to help. This forum has been my lifeline for two years now to get me to the point I'm at now. Jackie
  19. Where did you get the sample of beach party from? Is it kind of sand and salt or more of carribean drink smell? Thanks!
  20. Also try flexiblemolds.com They made some unique ones for me and are so nice to work with!
  21. Maybe it was just something wrong with that batch of wax I made up. Not sure how that could be, but something was weird. I'm going to try again and cut back on the fragrance load. Maybe I used too much and it morphed into something weird. That can happen.
  22. Well, it didn't go well with any of their oils. Maybe it's my blend, but everything had a kind of plastic undertone smell. Some it wasn't so bad in, but developed over time. Blueberry Bliss happened so fast I had to pour it out. The coconut really was fabulous. Within minutes it soared and smelled great, but about four hours into it there was that smell again. I thought it was me, but I had sent the same ones to my daughter and didn't say anything beforehand about the smell and she reported back the same thing. It could just be my blend. I might try it in another wax just to see because no one else mentioned this in any posts.
  23. Yes, that's them, thanks! I do believe they are the same mold, just larger.
  24. I solved my click and ship problem by downloading and using Firefox instead of Internet Explorer and it worked just fine like it always has. There is a notice about IE at the top of the site and using a higher verison, but I was so that shouldn't have been a factor. When I want to use it now I get out of IE and launch Firefox. Go figure, but whatever works I guess. Jackie
  25. This is actually the exact mold of another company (can't remember the name but really nice cardboard box packaging with a beautiful label) only theirs is bigger and they are called cake tarts. The whole thing was probably 2 1/2" high and also had all these sections you could just pull apart. Theirs came in a lightweight box and this one comes in the round plastic with a lid that I imagine is plastic as well to keep costs down. Same idea as a square clamshell, just new to look at and each section looks a little bigger than the one square of a regular clam. Probably see them around soon for sale somewhere.
