  1. I noticed that on the recipe that it said it should last for months but that was probably just using it in the house. I guess time will tell how long they last.
  2. I get alot my of supplies from Wick Wares but I didn't know they would meet you. I live about 5 hours from there and sometimes we just need a break and take off to Texas. We use to live just a few minutes from Lone Star so we enjoy the drive and they have good customer service too.
  3. Where are the little tins located in Walmart. We currently have 2 supercenters in Fort Smith with the 3 being built soon. Surely I can find them at one. I hate to go to walmart. I have another question. When buying supplies for your business at Walmart, can you give them your tax # and not have to pay tax? I don't use Walmart much for candle stuff but I have seen some containers that would look good with wax in them. How about resturant supply business? Do they have anything worth checking in to? I think there is a bunch of those around here too.
  4. I think that was what the recipe was for but I have too much stuff just sitting around the house that I wanted something else to use in others ways and everyone needs a car air freshner.
  5. Not sure how long they will last. We just made them last week on spring break. I used cucumber mint for SNC. They smell strong now but won't run you out of your car. As the temperatures warm up, so will your car and the scent should become stronger, right?
  6. I don't have brochures made up. Where's the best place to get advice on making one. I have no idea where to start. I do have business cards.
  7. I make candles out of my home. I have alot of people want to sniff the different scents so I usually fix a small basket with votives so they can sample but this is kind of a pain. How does everyone else do it? I would like to find something like a tealight with plastic lid. Do they make them?? You could make kind of a folding carrying case, use velcro to attach the tealights and just pop them off if someone wanted to smell a certain scent. When the seasons change, just change out your scents and you're good to go. I am looking for advice on this one. Please help.
  8. Just checked on my last batch of fragrance stones. I made 1/2 batch so I could play with the color. I used two drops of red food coloring and 2 drops of blue. It made a really sick color of purple but as it is drying, the color is turning into a light concrete color. It is really looking like stone. In some places there are a few little cracks which really adds to the look. Hope the color doesn't fade any more. Anyone else have any ideas? These are fun to make even without kids. I really like quick projects where I can see instant results. How about rolling them into little balls, making the holes and when dry, thread them like beads. I think I'll try another 1/2 batch!!
  9. I've only used the J223 for containers and Astorlite V for votives. I'm needing some container wax. Would the J50 be a better choice. Can I still use the same wicks I do now? On some of my jars that are shorter than they are tall, I will use three wicks(maybe a pc4-that burns cooler plus I have a lot of those left from a previous screw up I did.) It gives me a good overall burn and on the taller ones, I usually use a zinc wick. Ginger
  10. Any craft store or Walmart should have it. I think it is over with the bead stuff at walmart. I can't remember the price but it was cheap or you could also use yarn or jute. I think we cut the elastic thread about 8-9 inches and then tied a knot and it really fits good over the mirror. Not swinging or bobbing around. Have fun!!
  11. I guess I got the recipe some where on the internet.(that's where I get everything.) It's a play dough type dough that you let harden. Here goes: 1 1/2 cup flour 1/4 cup salt 1/4 cup cornstarch 2/3 cup boiling water 1 Tablespoon fragrance oil colorant of choice-on the second batch, I used food coloring Mix all dry ingredients together. I sifted mine for a smoother texture. Heat water to boiling in microwave. Add fragrance oil and color to water. Stir water into flour mixture, mixing and kneading with hands. It should look like pie dough or cookie dough. Roll out 1/4" think and cut into shapes with cookie cutter or biscuit cutter. You can stamp impressions with stamps. The second batch I made, I rolled it out on a very textured fabric and it gave the backside a honeycomb effect. Be sure to make small hole at top to thread elastic thread through. Let air dry and time will vary on that. This was really a fun project to do with kids and not too messy. My grandson loves it when people compliment him on the fine job he did. It also smells good. We are still having cool weather here in Arkansas but the days that it warms up, the truck smells really good but not overpowering. Hope you enjoy. Ginger
  12. During spring break, my 6 year old grandson and I made scented stones. We cut them out with cookie cutters, used stamps to stamp different impressions on them and poked a small hole at the top. When they were dry, we used gold elastic cord through the hole and he has been giving them to family and friends for car air freshners. They look really nice hanging off the mirror and smell so good. Has anyone else tried this. They were so inexpensive to make and can be made in so many different shapes. You could also roll them out on some really textured fabric (burlap?) and give them a really cool look. We didn't color them but that would be another option. Ginger
  13. I was wondering if anyone carries a plastic lid for tea lights? That would be a great way to carry samples of candle scents. How does everyone else present their scents when someone is interested. I just sell from my home and I sure can't take the bottles with me. I have fixed baskets with different votives so people could smell the different scents but I am open for suggestions. Thanks
  14. Thank you everyone who responded to my questions. I think I'll give this a try tomorrow. I personally like the jump lines- has a rustic effect. Do you charge more for your chunk candles since they are a little more time consuming? I learn so much from this board and I'm thankful there are so many talented candlemakers out there who are willing to help others. Thanks again.
  15. What thickness of chunks is best for votives or does it matter? Ginger
  16. Hi everyone! I was wondering if you have to go up on wick size when you make chunk votives in order for everything to melt good. I have made just regular votives but nothing fancy. It is sooo nice to have someone to help with all your candle making questions. TIA Ginger
  17. Thanks everyone for your advice. I will be checking out some of these places. I received my order today from SNC and they smell so wonderful. Shipping was alot faster this time than in the past and I just can't keep my noise out of the bottles. I also received 4 samples which was great. Here's my list that I received: Birthday Cake Blackberry Sage-wow Blue Skies Cucumber Mint-another good one Jelly Beans Pink Sugar Aquolina Type-this is different Raspberry Tomato Leaf-I've ordered this before and I really like it Rosemary Mint- another wow Strawberry Jam Strawberry Melon I also received samples of Little Black Dress, Angel Food Cake, Issey Miyake Pour Homme type( I think I like this one), and Childhood. This week is spring break and I have my 6 year old grandson so candle making will have to wait till the weekend but I am ready. This is like Christmas in March. Wow, I am excited. Thanks to all who responded. I really appreciate any and all advice. Ginger
  18. I have spent the last couple of days on the computer, reading posts and trying to figure out which company to order oils from. I live in Arkansas and we don't have any candle supply companies close so I will be out shipping on anything I order. I have ordered from a couple of smaller companies in Texas and have been fairly satisified. Also used Aztec in Tennessee and Soap and Candles. (I love their oils but customer service is a BIG issue with SNC). Are there any Arkies or OKies out there that could give an opinion on getting the bang for your buck. TIA Ginger
  19. I have never tried any oils from JS but I've seen such great reviews on the board, that I want to place an order. Could I have opinions on everyones favorites. Thanks
  20. I'm getting the same "no access" message. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong. I would love to see it. Ginger
  21. If you were going to add container wax, how much would you had per pound? I am currently using J223. I have never made tarts; guess I'll have to give them a try. They are basically a wickless votive in a decorative shape, right? Same mixing procedure, just pour into a tart mold? Thanks for all the advice. Ginger
  22. I use oils from SNC and also Aztec. My wicks are good quality. I usually use 1.5 oz. oil pp. They have great cold throw but while burning, I just think there should be more. I'll just keep trying.
  23. I'm about 25 east of Fort Smith. Where are you? Ginger
  24. Thanks Fern and FragileXmom for the info. I just don't know what to do with all the astorlite v that I have. I stocked up since I live so far from everything and now I'm not pleased with what I have. What causes a wax to not have a good hot throw? I guess I need to read up on that. Thanks again. Ginger
  25. Does anyone out there use Astorlite V for their votives? I had purchased alot last year but I don't seem to get a good scent throw while it is burning. Can anyone give me some advice? Also, any suggestions on a good votive wax when I get these 5-6 cases used up? TIA Ginger
