  1. Thanks for your advice. I really know nothing about pillars and would like to learn more.
  2. I have the same problem. I pour candles out in my husbands shop. I blocked off an area and put up plastic "walls". I use a heater in the winter and a small ac in the summer. The fumes from the heater are a little much sometimes. My stove I use has no oven so I make quick trips in the house to heat up the jars. It's a real pain and sometimes I bring my melted wax in with me and just pour in the kitchen. I hope to come up with another idea but until then I'll just run back and forth.
  3. I really enjoy the advice and pictures from all you talented candlemakers. I just make candles as a hobby; sell a few once in a while. My question is, when making pillars, do you want it to burn completely across or leave a small amount on the sides so the wax doesn't spill out? My other question is when making candles in cupcake papers with "icing" on top, what size wick do you use and once again is it suppose to burn completely across? Is it safe to burn in the paper? I have been "playing" with candlemaking for many years but I just don't feel as talented as many of you. Pity party! Any advice will be greatly appreciated. TIA
  4. I order oils from Aztec and I am very pleased with their oils and service. Plus, I like the fact that with each 1# or 2# oil you order, you get a one ounce sample of your choice of oils. That gives you a chance to check out the different scents they carry. Last year I ran out of a particular oil a couple of weeks before Christmas and they were the only place I could get it from and they were really fast. I give them a thumbs up. Ginger
  5. I am trying to pour some containers(j223) and having trouble getting the color right. I am trying to pour a true red color but when i add my oils, I get a beautiful magenta color. A customer called yesterday and ordered 4 jars in red-needs them today. No pressure on a normal day but this isn't normal. Is there anyway to get back to the red color?? or should I tell her that this oil just doesn't make red candles. Please HELP!!! TIA
  6. I read somewhere about a candle that uses Vicks (vapo rub) for the scent. Can this really be done and if so how much would you use? thanks
  7. thanks to all of you for your knowledge. i think i have 4-5 cases of this wax l so it will take a while to use up. i guess i'll test wicks till i croak. thanks again.
  8. does anyone out there use astorlite v?? i am having problems finding the proper wicks in 4 different scents i am testing. i am up to cd7 and still have a small amount around the edges. in alot of postings, i have seen using cd5-6 but not cd7 and up in votives. what am i doing wrong?? i am not getting any smoking and only small mushrooms on one of them. please advise. thanks:)
  9. when you pick a wick for pillars, are you wanting the pillar to burn all the way across and drip down sides or just burn so far out which keeps it from dripping down the sides? i have never burned or made a pillar but would like to try.thanks
