  6. Ohhh very festive. Love the wreaths! Very cute.
  7. I've so far am having a good experience with this company (I have only ordered personally not professionally). The product got to me pretty quickly and packaged nice. I have had no experience dealing with customer service yet, but I haven't had to contact them for anything yet. I know other people who regularly use mountain rose herbs (professionally) and so far nothing bad has been said.
  8. Great display! I'm sooooooo IN LOVE with your HIPPY CANDLES!!!!! The colors are just amazing!!
  9. Hello! I'm new to making candles and looking at buying my starting supplies and wonder what's the best way to go about picking out fragrance oils? Since you can't smell before you buy should I just do the sample kits to start? Orrrr should I just get a couple scents and work with that for now. And how do you get past the fear of mixing (I'm no where near the level of being able to just mix mix mix, 1 scent at a time is enough for me). But I look around at other candlers and you all are so fearless when it comes to scents, how do you get past it?
  10. OHHHHH!!!! How neat!! Love it! Very Unique!
  11. Found an interesting article written about the disadvantages of selling on etsy. After posting here and reading comments I started doing more research. When I first found etsy I became like a lot of future sellers with this vision of what an amazing place etsy is. This is not a stab at them, I'm still deciding for myself the extent I will participate with etsy or artfire or if not at all. Just found this article interesting and thought I'd share. http://mywifequitherjob.com/etsy-stores/
  12. Lol no, not having insurance I know how they feel, the analogy was just for people looking for a reduced rate and small business owners standing up and saying no. And from my experience the people that do come in big businesses looking for a reduced rate are big meanies which is what made me so tired of retail and tried to search for something else only to find those kinds of people are still there but not as many as you would find in big retail. But it is nice to see small businesses standing up and saying no.
  13. I think you missed my point. It's not like they charge an outrageous amount, I don't have insurance either and haven't for the past oh 10 years so believe me when I say it's not terribly expensive and they have a nice membership program that cost $10 to join and you get $40 off each visit so it's not like they are stealing from the poor. My point is how they handle annoying customers who are just trying to get something free out of it. I hate people like that and even tho they aren't making something they are still providing a service. When I was a massage therapist there were many times when someone tried to get more time out of the massage for free but what people don't realize is it takes a lot of hard work to do the job I'm not going to do it for free. So I don't know if I upset you about the insurance issue cause believe me it's annoying how expensive health care is and I can't afford it and pray I don't get cancer or something else serious.
  14. LOL I love all the responses so far to how to deal with these people. Right now I'm working at the in-laws clinic (they are Dr.'s) and they are straight forward people. They always get someone being a jerk coming in trying to get their care cheaper because they don't have insurance and in-laws have no problem telling them like it is and they even go so far as to tell them about their attitude and *sigh* *wipes tear* it is so beautiful. I never bought into the thought that the "customer is always" right crap. Maybe big businesses who make there stuff in sweat shops in china and buy the cheapest crappiest products to make that item to sell it for pennies on the dollar. But when you actually get quality work to even think you can wheel and deal is so insulting. But the moment you let one customer do it that's the customers you will be attracting and I definitely believe that you can choose who your customers are going to be. So thumbs up and good jobs all around for everyone standing their grounds! And thanks for posting your responses, it's nice to get a good laugh. (the walmart ones cracked me up btw)
  15. What I don't get is how someone claims copyright on a "design" that has been done before by other crafters? Like for example the pillar candles with wax drip on them, how can someone claim that design idea as theirs when I've seen it before? Can candles even be copyrighted to begin with since copyright from what I understand is for literary works and art etc. . . Not that candle making isn't an art for cause there are lots of beautiful candles on this site alone. Soooo much reading! Is anyone here knowledgeable about this subject matter? Patents? TM? Copyrights? I definitely will find a good lawyer to keep around in case something ugly does happen (I actually have read this everywhere to begin with when I read up on starting a business everyone says find a good lawyer).
  16. I'm doing research on this information now, I'm tired of being misinformed. So when I understand more or find useful information I will post it. And from what I can see, you can search patents up to 1976 so even tho something has been done for a while you should still be able to find it.
  17. Oh I agree, I definitely won't give out my recipes or even tell them how I made them (maybe when I get old and "retire" I'd teach classes lol). When I first fell in love with the idea of making my own candles was from a woman's shop, she made the most amazing smelling candles and I had told her that it was an interesting thought and I'd like to try it. She said go for it but she would never give out how she does it because she put a lot of time and energy into learning how to run her business successfully if it was something I was interested in I would have to do the same thing. (A lot of people have come up to her about the same interest in starting their own business although I'm pretty sure only 1% actually follow through). And believe me I'm working really hard all day coming up with this business. It's definitely a fun process!
  18. And I agree with you, I won't stop buying from others when I start making. And anyone who truly loves what they do will come out ahead, unless they step on heads then they'll have some angry people behind them.
