  1. Most FOs claiming to be milky/creamy use nothing more than a touch of Vanilla in their scents. I can't think of a need to purchase a Milk FO, all they are is a light fragrance of vanilla. Taylored Concepts use to have a Butter fragrance that when blended with any Vanilla FO gave a good creamy scent. CandleScience's Kettle Korn also has a slight creamy note.
  2. Are you looking for a true milk scent (from the moo) or a sweet milky characteristic?
  3. I wasn't aware it had seaweed absolute but if it does, that would be a good marketing ploy. Not sure if it's identifiable in the final scent. Seaweed absolute has a sort-of pungent dirty musk to it. I doubt it's included in Daystars dupe, but with Daystar claiming their version has cedarwood in it, I'm guessing thats what they are using as a substitute. With Acqua di Sale; I suspect it's mostly the top notes that contribute to the overall smell of the ocean. I really only experience the powdery aspect of the scent in the final drydown. I think it's because most metallic/aquatic notes have a slight powdery aspect to them (at least to my nose) It's very slight in the perfume, and with the FO dupe, it shouldn't be an issue. I think...
  4. Sounds REAL good to me! Hmm, I think I might want some "Garden in the Fall"! I'll take a sample ounce please! I don't think it will, but just incase that apple scent makes the whole blend "tasty" for lack of better word, you can always add a litt "patch" or "dirt" FO to bring it back to the garden! I think you got a good blend going though! Lot of herbs in there that blend. Apple and herbs always work!
  5. It was! Just to follow up on this thread, the Pumpkin Patch-ouli FO isn't available anymore at JS. It's been a while since I had tried it. As for a straight pumpkin FO I remember one supplier having an exact dupe to the smell of Libby's Pumpkin Pie filling, which for a pumpkin scent is as close to a true pumpkin smell you will get without the "in-your-face" spice notes. But, I can't remember which supplier carried it!? Anyone?
  6. Oh. It looks like it's been discontinued. Talk to Becky over at JS. Maybe she has a little left over, or will bring it back in the fall. I'm actually surprised that no other company sells it because I thought it was a great FO, especially for Patchouli nuts like me! If all else fails, you might could do a 40/60 mix of pumpkin and patchouli FOs.
  7. Just Scents. It has little spice to it. Just scent's description of "Pumpkin Patch-ouli" "If you like pumpkin and you like patchouli - you will love this oil! A fabulous blend of pumpkin, patchouli, cinnamon and nutmeg with hints of orange and nut."
  8. I would try: (makes 6 oz) Juniper Sage 2oz tomato leaf 1oz Chamomile 2oz pumpkin patchouli 1oz
  9. So after reading up on this a little more, it appears to be a dupe of the perfume "Acqua di Sale" which is comprised of: myrtle-anise for its top notes, cucumber - green tea for the heart, and dirty patchouli at it's base. Having not sampled Daystar's "Ahoy, Matey" I can't vouch for it's likeness to the $50 perfume. I have tried Acqua Di Sale and it's actually pretty close to a true ocean smell, but still slightly "soapy" for lack of better word. I think its the salty-licorice like opening that gives it that fishy/marine characteristic. It's a strong marine scent, without the florals, fresh yet dirty. It was a good scent. Hope that helps.
  10. Thanks I had forgoten about that company. Lots of aroma chems. Hmm, have you tried Amyl vinyl carbinol? It's a slightly musty-cool metallic scent that might be perceived as dirty ocean water note?!
  11. "When people talk about the tang of "salt air," what they are really talking about is that sharp, slightly sulfurous smell that is caused primarily by algae outgassing a rather unpleasant chemical called dimethyl sulfide. This is the primary scent chemical responsible for making the ocean smell like the ocean. And you can buy it--I have some!" Not to threadjack but where can I purchase the aroma chem dimethyl sulfide? As a base/heart, Vetiver should be a good starting point. Didn't think of that one! If you can get a true cucumber scent without that fake drydown musk; It might work with Vetiver to create a somewhat realistic ocean scent. Sadly, I doubt Daystar's Ahoy will smell accurate. Most of these fragrance companies fail to deliver true-to-life linear scents.
  12. Most oceanic scents are floral, which I also hate. I've had pretty good luck with Save on Scents "fishing pier" because it has a slight fish note. You might should try that. It's not a true to life scent but it's close. Maybe you can mix EOs. I believe Elemi EO mixed with a Cucumber EO might give you a seaweed like smell. Haven't found anything salty yet.
  13. Yeah, it is licorice-like now that I smell it again. I might try to combine anise, peppermint, and leather FOs. And see how that smells.
  14. OK, so this may sound strange, but I really like the smell of Neutrogena T-Gel shampoo. It's derived from coal tar, an almost industrial rubber-like smelling extract. The scent is further lifted by peppermint, and grounded with a warm leather fragrance. It's a really clean, refreshing masculine scent. Definitely unique. Has anyone come across an FO dupe. Or better still, a coal tar FO? Thanks in Advance.
  15. Ran across this doing a search. Has anyone tried Demeter's Crayon? or know where I can get a dupe? It would make for an interesting candle (multi-colored of course) A kid scent? Or novelty scent for a teacher? Sounds...interesting.
  16. I don't mean to start a fight or anything but I was disappointed because it was not strong. Not because it was the plant part of the tobacco. I knew when ordering that it wasn't a pipe smell. I just didn't like it because it was weak. That would be why I was disappointed. Also, I'm referring to most of NG scents. I'm just not happy with that many. But, that's my personal opinion. To each their own. The best pipe tobacco fragrance...and the only tobacco FO I use is BCs.
  17. Sure no problem! One of our most popular candles is "driftwood" or at least that's what I've called it. It's sells well. I'm partial to the more manly FOs anyway because well...I'm a dude. We have it as a bathroom spray and a candle. It's a mix of cedarwood, basil, and coconut. It smells awesome. Have fun experimenting. Back on subject, look forward to their tobacco review.
  18. All good masculine scents. If you have it, I'd substitute an almond FO in-place of the cherry in your Tobacco test. Almond has many of the same scent characteristics without being fruity or overly sweet. Also almond has a slight bitter earthiness that I think might work better with your FO. Going for a cherrywood like smell? I remember Wellington having a pipe tobacco FO with cherrywood in it, but it smelled so strong of cherry that it overpowered the tobacco notes. If you're a fan of cedarwood, it's also a good companion for any of those FOs mentioned. Just thought I'd throw that out there. You'll like Tweed.
  19. I think this is the problem. Some smell OOB strong, soy nothing. Other's a big goose egg OOB but when added to soy smell amazing. I've been hunting for a good tobacco FO for a while. Most are amber-like in quality and while nice, isn't what I'm really looking for. Best of luck with your NG FO. be sure to read their current customer reviews. If it isn't to much to ask, I'd be interested in hearing what you think about it when added to soy.
  20. Haven't tried it. But I do remember coming across an article claiming that this rare fragrance has a scent similar to that of a jasmine, gardenia, fennel, and peach blend. I think its replicated as such because the price of the true EO is crazy expensive. I'd imagine SC's is close. But I'll let others chime in to give you a review. Update~ Sweet Cakes says theirs smells like jasmine with a suggestion of plum and raisins.
  21. I've tried NG's tobacco before and thought it was OK, but not strong enough to continue buying. Actually I've pretty much given up on NG. Their scents are great (when manufactured right), but I've found that most of them are inconsistent and FO scent throws vary drastically. I've order many scent from them, only to be disappointed when they arrive because the scent formula was either more diluted or completely different from what it was. I think the reviews on the site also reflect this. It's funny that 3+ years ago customer reviews were much higher than they are now. And scents were much stronger. At least that's my opinion.
  22. Not having smelled it, I doubt I can offer much help. Does the bottle list any specific extracts or scents? Sometimes they do. More than likely all it will say is "fragrance". If it does list a few scents...you might be able to experiment with your own FOs. By law, even with fragrances, all reported ingredients must be be listed consecutively with the largest amount first, in order of use. Check the generics shampoo labels! They tend to brag a little more about what their knockoff shampoo contains. It can be difficult, but you could try to isolate the individual scents. See if you can identify the top, middle and base notes. The top note will be the easiest to work with. For example: If you immediately smell "mint" from the shampoo. Place a small drop of your top note FO (mint) on a strip of paper or cardboard, then add another middle note FO( the next scent you smell) then add another drop of a base note FO (the note you smell last usually after dry down) Wave the strip around your nose so the FOs blend together. If the strip smell similar to the shampoo...then your on the right track! If you really want this scent...the easiest but most expensive option is to water a small amount of it down using perfumers alchol and then mail the diluted shampoo ( about an ounce) to a fragrance company that can duplicate the scent for you. Most companies can do this now for a nominal fee. You will probably be required to purchase a large volume of the fragrance. I'll try and give it a whiff next time Im in Walmart, and see if I can smell anything. Sorry I couldn't help you further.
  23. Peaks Coconut Milk. Not overly sweet, or candy like. Pure coconut. Strong.
