  1. OK. I've tried nearly 8 different bitter almond FOs from various suppliers and it seems none of them are truly "bitter". Is this the norm? I've never used BA in anything before because I was told the EO was toxic ( as in cyanide ) Unfortunately, I can't really compare a bitter almond FO to it's extracted essence. By definition; I would think a bitter almond should be somewhat bitter smelling. Then again; does "bitter" even translate into realm of smells? It was probably named as such because of it's taste. I don't think those "bitter" aspects translate over into the scent form, at least not in the FOs I tested. Of the ones I did try, most reminded me of plain old almond scents, with a select few being vaguely reminiscent to "cherry cough syrup" Which while strange, isn't exactly a big shocker. Both cherry and almond have similar aroma chemistry. Unfortunately, even the "cherry cough syrup" FOs lacked that bitter aspect that I would assume makes the bitter almond different from other almond fragrances. Having never tried a bitter almond I'm starting to wonder now if my expectations for a "bitter" bitter almond are too high! I was really hoping for a bitter almond with a bit of a bite! I'm starting to think there isn't a nickel's difference between any "Almond" or "Bitter" Almond FOs. If there is...my poor nose can't detect the differences. Now that my odd rant/question/short novel is out of the way...Has anyone tried a bitter almond FO that was actually bitter? and if so, Where'd ya get it? . . . bitter almonds.
  2. Your reviews sound promising. Though, I'm hoping that "chemically" here means that the scents are overly strong. Otherwise, I'm worried as to what that meaning...means. I'd hate for them to smell caustic, like bleach or other cleaning chemicals. That characteristic is a common plague to some herbal-green fragrances I've tried. But, it's usually muted once soaped or candled. I'm hoping this is the case. Not a big fan of florals, but that's good to know. Did you happen to try any ocean-sea scents?
  3. Didn't see "English Ivy" on the site. I hope Candle Chem didn't discontinue it. I'm in need of a good "English Ivy" I've been looking for replacement ever since Filmore Containers stopped selling their version. It looks like CC does have a Cucumber & Ivy. I'll see if that's similar.
  4. a bit? I'm all for novelty scents but that's just STUPID! :undecided LOL I wonder if they were able to dupe the notes of bubble wrap and packing peanuts too!?
  5. A true basil (fresh) is harder to find, but sweet basil is relatively easy if you want an EO. I used to order them both from Wellington, but I too am looking for a new supplier. Nothing wrong with theirs, just not the best value.
  6. Wow, they seem to have a lot of earthy-green scents! Clover, Cucumber, Herbal Moss, Fresh Grass, Evergreen, Pine needles, Cucumber and Ivy, Oak moss, Patch, etc. Geez. Has anyone ordered any of those? If so which ones?
  7. Have you tried them since? I'm about to place an order for a few. I do hope they've improved.
  8. Thanks for the info folks. Hm. Sounds hit or miss. So I guess I'll just order a few and see how it goes. Thanks.
  9. They have a huge selection of FOs. I can litterally get 90-95% of everything I need. So I was hoping for some reviews, recomendations, etc. I'll wait. Thanks for the replies.
  10. 30 views and no response. I guess I'll just wing it and hope for the best!
  11. What are some of your Candle Chem FO favorites? Have you ever ordered from them? Are they a reputable biz. TIA!
  12. So did another company take over Snowdrift Farms stock or did it all die with Snowdrift? I'd like to be able to purchase their FOs if available elsewhere.
  13. EDIT: I coudn't edit the post but wanted to correct an error in the recipe of one of the FO blends. In the above post for a Root Beer FO; the blend is 50 maple, 25 anise, and 25 wintergreen, and NOT spearmint. So for anyone making it, be sure to use wintergreen.
  14. Gllitter and Gold? ...Or something else artistic and abstract enough that it would force customers to sample it just on name alone.
  15. Would you consider it realistic or more artistically reminiscent, with those extra little notes that make it more perfume-like? Grass or Grass-like? Thanks in advance KK.
  16. has anyone ever used a beer FO in conjunction with the beverage? I find that the beer beverage's fragrance gets muted a bit. If I'm going to have a beer soap. I want it to be supper beer scented, otherwise what's the point IMO.
  17. Me too! I wish I could go again. Take a big whiff of the new Storybook Circus area, it's said to smell like roasted peanuts. And if you can, bottle some of that POTC water, aka "Eau De Pirate". So Jealous.
  18. Thanks for this. I've been looking for an Oreo dupe for a while!
  19. Now THATS a good price! I keep holding out on ordering it until one of their other oils comes in, but at that price, I guess I should get it while I can. I'll let you know how it goes.
  20. Thanks for the link. Tried that one before. It was very "lite" on scent throw. (pun intended) It actually reminded me of a urinal cake smell, more than it did a dead ringer for beer. But, thanks anyway. I had forgotten all about this post. I'm still searching.
  21. Here's a few articles. http://caaneo.ca/about/blog/vacation/smells-like-disney-how-the-worlds-biggest-theme-park-scents-its-rides http://disneyparksecrets.blogspot.com/2011/12/scent-vents.html http://www.travelandleisure.com/articles/hotels-new-custom-scents The rest of the info was from a book on Disney Secrets. Hotels do this also, but I couldn't find a specific chain that is mentioned. (they usually pump a powdery chlorine smell to entice guests to use their pools)
  22. I recently came across an article revealing the secrets of disney's scents. It seems Disney ( and probably Universal too) pumps various scents throughout the parks to add extra ambiance to the rides, or just to help sell food products. The scents of cookies and cotton candy on Main Street, the musty smell on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, etc. They're all manufactured smells! Have you ever noticed? It seems that even Hotel chains are using proprietary ambient scents as a way to sell the "memory" of their hotel brand. Interesting. I love the smell of the Disney rides. I didn't know they were faked! I'd give my left arm for a Pirates of the Caribbean candle! That unique damp smell that's uniquely Disney.
  23. I've been finding this more and more on different supplier sites. I always assumed that reed diffuser was nothing more than dpg. Is this not the case? One site I check said that it was less viscous than dpg and lighter than water!? What the heck is in this stuff. I want to know...
  24. That does sound like a wonderful fall scent! Mind if I "steal" it! LOL.
