  1. I'd like a review as well. This is one of the FOs I've been interested in purchasing but have been too afraid too; given my unsatisfactory testing of some of her FOs. This one does sound good though.
  2. If anyone wants to part ways with their NG Buttered Rum, i'd be happy to give it a try. Having never sampled it, I'm curious in seeing just how icky this FO is! I'm really intrigued. Why would NG sell such an off-smelling FO? The reviews on this one seem mixed. If anyone wants to sell their sample bottle I'd like to evaluate it.
  3. Buttercream frosting FOs are usually made using a blend of Vanilla, Strawberry, Butter and Valerian. The Strawberry and Valerian in trace amounts gives that raw chemical-edge freshness characteristic of "frosting". The Butter (usually from a Popcorn FO) and Vanilla help round out and sweeten the scent. Buttercream fragrances are primarily vanilla. And that concludes rctfavr3's useless factoid of the day!
  4. FO prices seem reasonable! I'll give them a shot.
  5. Their website's not working for me...:embarasse
  6. Dipropylene Glycol is available at many online supplier at ~$30 gallon. Jojaba is just a good long shelflife, low odor carrier oil that when paired with the DPG allows you to stretch your oils without drastically diluting your fragrance strength. DPG is more-or-less a "filler" additive.
  7. Sounds like you have the upperhand! The other companies can only showcase their wares you can show how your are made! That single interactive element ( hands-on workshop or how to demo) would outshine any other show! Sounds fun.
  8. DPG is the most common carrier solvent usually paired or blended with Jojaba oil.
  9. Haha. I remember that. Not sure. Taylored Concept's had one called "Gas" and it smelled just like that! maybe this is a dupe!?
  10. Candy Corn is primarily granulated white sugar and corn syrup. Neither of those are available in scentform which is why so many Candy Corn FOs vastly differ. Some smell like caramel, some like butter, honey, hints of almond, etc. Having tried Yanks I found it to be mostly marshmallow with just a hint of butter. Not knowing of an exact blend I'd suggest blending marshmallow, with a hint of Kettle Corn + Vanilla and see what that gets you.
  11. God only knows why you'd want a candle to smell like that, but I have to admit... I think this would sell like hotcakes as a body spray or roll on. It would make a great "Dirty Santa" gift or the perfect perfume for the mother-in-law.
  12. http://www.saveonscents.com/product_info.php/products_id/203485 The description (and scent) is very original! LOL. Good marketing. I might try it just for gits and shiggles!
  13. CandlesandSupplies has the best one. Very skunky Draft Beer. Really good. Skip SOS their beer FO sucks.
  14. I'd do less than that. Maybe 12 total -- rotating out 2-3 seasonal scents ever 3 months.
  15. Grapefruit + Rain Apple + Lavender Lime + Coconut Ivy + Cucumber Pineapple Ocean type Cilantro Cherry
  16. You can work around Paypal's limited interface by including a high shipping charge or an added fee for orders less than the amount you want your customers to spend. Set up a shipping rule (price range and ship fee) that makes the buyer pay $X amount on shipping, or (X % of amount) on orders less than min amount established. Be sure to inform them of this at checkout and in your site's FAQ. "This cart requires a minimum of $X.00 dollars. Orders less than this amount incur a $XX shipping fee* ( or pay an additional 25% of order total*) Fee is waved if order total is higher than minimum. Thank you." You can see a similar example of this system in action at Wellington's site. (Wellington Fragrances). Their cart has a min order of $50 dollars and any invoice that falls below this must pay an additional $5. Alternatively you can use Paypal with this free shopping cart designer: http://ereimer.net/nopercart.htm
  17. Yes. SOS has it. Haven't tried it, but it looks like it's a winner based on the 5star reviews.
  18. I misread your post and actually blended up a little Drakkar with lime and I gotta tell you...I love it! Whodathunkit? Might have a new candle scent. Haven't tested it in wax yet, but that powdery orange-lavender Drakkar with a little lime is pretty good! Thanks CandyBee! LOL.
  19. That's some sage advice there OldGlory! If possible try to get your friend to provide an example of their ideal ocean scent. It will help save you time and money.
  20. A good ocean scent should be fresh, clean, slightly metallic with a foamy sparkling element on a base of briny water. I've yet to find a winner. Here's a reworked BLEND that gets the closest IMHO: .60 Salty Mariner + Dill Pickle .40 Fishing Pier + Clary Sage 2-5 drops each of EOs elemi, cliantro, anise If anyone wants to run with this and replicate it you're more than welcome!
  21. To be blunt...Good Luck! It's a lofty notion to actually being able to find an ocean scent that smells like an ocean. Most are floral (think bathroom coverup) and suppliers don't seem to be changing that anytime soon. If you are wanting the true "scent memory" smell of an ocean you'll be hard-pressed finding an FO that works. Though a fresh ocean scent isn't out of the question if you go herbal or citrus. Cucumber and Cilantro mixed with some Salty Mariner might be pretty good. You're best bet IS a blend though. I'd recommend Salty Mariner as a starting point but even then it lacks the algae and fish notes NEEDED to make it realistically reminiscent. SOS has a scent called Fishing Pier that might work for you when combined with Salty Mariner. They also have a new scent called Typhoon that might work for your needs as well. You could freshen up any ocean blend with a little bit of citrus. Good luck on finding something.
  22. Yikes! Just read the description for "Graffiti!" HAHA. That's just what we need... teens huffing our candles to get their buzz on! :rolleyes2 We went from Man Candles to Teen Tarts in a matter of seconds. Between that, Rubber Cement, Turpentine? and their Gasoline FOs it's a wonder our candle wax doesn't catch fire. ...I gotta say I do like the scent of Gasoline though. Is that bad? LOL.
  23. I had to comment in this thread because I really enjoy all the novelty scents they offer. I wish other suppliers would jump on the bandwagon. I know they're not everyone's cup of tea but some of their novelty scents are really useful and fun. They seem to be adding ALOT more as I type this! I've tried their Dirty Diaper and Skunk. DD smells very sour with a slight fecal/anamalic backnote but it isn't really "sh_tty"-smelling. I would say it's more inline with civet/Indole absolutes. It's actually pretty useful in blends if you don't over do it. Skunk smelled more like a belch than the stinky critter, but it was fun! They have tons of new scents being added! I just put an order in for Library, Oak Barrel, and Grape Soda. Can't wait! Update~ Just saw they have a Red Bull FO too! I need to get this for my cousin. She's a redbull drinking junkie!
  24. SOS has Timber (think dry barnwood) Sawdust (light powdery) and Plywood (pine wood + glue) as well as a few others. For your needs I'd recommend Timber with a hint of Thyme added for that dry freshly cut smell.
