  1. I have a problem with some merchandise I received from Rachel's Potpourri. I have sent several emails to the address I had with my order confirmation and have not received a reply. I also used the contact form on their site and didn't receive a reply to that also. I did not see a phone number listed on their site. Does anyone have a different e-mail address or phone number for Rachel's Potpourri?
  2. What a good combo scent suggestion. I'll have to try that:) I love CS pumpkin soufle, it throws great and it doesn't have a burnt smell to me at all. I only use only 6% so maybe at a higher % it would be different. Deb's right it does smell like a hot pumpkin custard.
  3. :laugh2: Yeah, it's just that easy. Don't bother with something so trival as testing. Welcome back Geek!
  4. What cool idea! If you ever have to market the shall we say more mature crowd:) you could use "Rock around the clock with scent" Do you use the name Rockin as part of your business? Purplehippie, I wonder just how you know about those Deadheads? Fess up or I can produce a photo of someone with long blond hair, a red head band, tie dye shirt and bell bottoms standing in line for a GD concert many years ago. Hmm, I wonder who that would be?
  5. Those are so nice! Oh to be a talented artist. I can hardly draw stick people! Good job!!!
  6. I would suggest that you might be interested in all of the information that has been previously posted concerning this wax. If you type in Joy wax in the search box you will find a lot of information! Joy is a container wax and it probably is too soft to make tarts. I would imagine it would get stuck to your tart molds. Many of us are former Joy wax users. I had major problems with it and received poor customer service when I reported the problem. It use to be my favorite wax! Maybe things have improved but I won't go back to it. Good luck to you! Here are just a couple that I located http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50426&highlight=Joy+wax http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51508&highlight=Joy+wax
  7. First, I want to apologize to the orignal poster of this thread. I didn't mean to "hyjack" the post with any questions. I just wanted to share that my findings in testing are the same as hers. So after this post I'll start another thread if needed. :tiptoe: Thanks Stella for getting back to me on that! Just as the first post here I also find that all wicks I've tested so far are burning too hot. IMO wicking always gets a bit tricky once the container is 3.5 and up. My glass is good quality for candle making so it's not that the glass is too thin. I tested the CDN 12 and in this container it didn't produce a full melt pool even after 5 1/2 hours of burning. My container is 3 1/2 inches wide. The melt pool was uneven. I don't doubt for a moment that the CSN wicks are working well for some people. They just aren't giving me the rusults I would like in my testing for this width of container. In another container maybe they would work great! So far they either don't produce a full melt pool(seem to be too small) or they burn too hot and the I achieve a full melt pool in very little time. The flames are growing too high and wide in a very short period of time and the glass is far too hot for me. I am happy that the CSN's are working out for some of you and I don't doubt your results one single bit. They just aren't working for me. So I'll try another wick! Have fun ladies and create some pretty candles!!!
  8. My favorite is container wax. I like paraffin the best but I also use a soy/paraffin blend.
  9. When I saw this post I thought "Oh no, here we go again." I just knew this was going to turn into another exchange of verbal insults on both sides of this issue. However, after reading the post above(the one from TheSoapbox) I think that a good point has been made. It is possible that some people could have a problem with soy. There are individuals with soy allergies. As mentioned in the above post, there are things that one would think of as safe but someone somewhere has an alergic reaction to it. I do not remember one single kid when I was in school that had alergic reactions to nuts. Peanut butter was one of the first sandwiches we all learn to make for ourselves. PBJ with crackers was the common snack given at school. Now days nut alergies are very common. I have used both soy and praffin. There are things I like about both but overall I rather paraffin. I just don't believe in bashing one to make a sale for the other.
  10. I don't find them to be too dark. I think you did a lovely job!!!
  11. I will have to check my notes to make sure but I think this was at the 3 hour mark. I didn't take a photo from the side but this was after I had trimmed the wick. The flame grows very tall quickly and it bounces like a rubber ball! No draft, AC turned off. I know that all waxes can produce different results. Just because it is a "natural" wax doesn't mean it will burn the same as soy but this will take some getting use to. :smiley2: Like the orginal comment here on this post, I have noticed that every single type of wick I have tried burns VERY hot! My containers are usually too hot to touch. Use the same wicks in other waxes and that isn't a problem. Also the BIG huge bouncing flames really annoy me. :laugh2:Stella, did your associate tell you if she finds the glass to be very hot in her testing?
  12. This is a photo of the CSN 14 burn. Is this how it is suppose to burn? If they had a pretty good hot throw under those conditions that's pretty awesome for a candle!!!
  13. I haven't had any luck with single wicks either. They either tunnel or they produce one HUGE bouncing flame. I have tried several different types of wicks. This is a photo of a 3 1/2 wide container using 2 CSN 9 wicks. This photo was taken after only 1 hour of burning. The outside jar temp. was 146. I tried 2 CSN 5 wicks and I got a full melt pool in 1 hour 15min. Maybe it's just a problem with my pack of wicks.
  14. So you are adding soy and it isn't changing the crystalization at all?
  15. I was begining to think it was just me that had this problem. :undecided
  16. I've tried that one and I think it has a chilli scent OOB but not strong enough in the wax. I never could get a great throw even in paraffin.
  17. I've just realize that menopause and candle testing aren't exactly an ideal situation. Wick issues at this time could be dangerous! This explains my lack of tolerance for these problems lately!
  18. I don't know, sounds like an inconsistency to me if each bag of the same size from the same supplier gives different results:smiley2: I've had the same wick type from different suppliers produce different results. Also, I notice that wicks will seem to be of different quality from some suppliers. I love the straight pretty burn of the LX wick, looks very attractive! However, I also could not get a a scent throw that I was pleased with. Once you start using the larger sizes in the LX the flame gets HUGE without constant trimming.
  19. I have seen palm contianer candles in several grocery stores, can't remember the company name. So yes, it's possible. I've purchased a few to see how they perform. I find the cold throw was good but the hot throw was not there at all on most. The candles I burned had air pockets. So I think they are simply making the candles and not concerning themselves if there are air pockets or not. That bothers me so I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that.
  20. Embrace menopause! I also had soot issues with RRD wicks plus my candles burned quicker than with other wicks I tested. However, someone on another post mentioned that in candle making there is always a trade off. If we have a certain problem with a wax and switch to another we may get rid of the first problem only to trade it for another. I've learned that it's the same issue with wicks. I've tested wicks that didn't produce any mushrooming but the MP was uneven, or the MP was perfect but the scent throw was lacking, the scent throw was great but there was mushrooming...We all strive for perfection but at some point we have to pick which wick or wax issues we are willing to live with. If not, it's easy to drive yourself crazy!
  21. I totally agree with Stella on this. Palm is just more prone to air pockets. Without being able to see completly into the container we really can't be sure if a container has an air pocket or not. I've seen them when test burning a few of my containers with the GG. So if air pockets are there on a few then I am sure they can be with others. The slow cooling is what helps with the crystalizations but not the air pockets. As for the poking relief holes not always working that is true also. I had made a palm pillar and poked the holes and did a repour in the usual manner. When I took the pillar out of the mold I accidentialy dropped it on the floor and it split in half. There were several air pockets still in the pillar. Some where right next to where I had poked and repoured.
  22. I've had air pockets also and I've poured into heated containers, cooled in a box, in the oven...still air pockets.
  23. I hope you get this problem taken care of. I gave up on the 6006 because of other problems so I haven't tested this batch. I understand how you feel. I wish you good luck!
