  1. Not only are you pouring to cool but you are mixing a container wax with a pillar wax. If you are going to mix soy and paraffin you need to keep the melt points of both waxes closer together
  2. Yes oil burner are suppose to get hotter but here is the thing you are not suppose to use straight FO in them either they should be cut with a cutter oil like DPG or something similar. With straight FO the is to much of a chance of a flash fire as a lot of our FO have a flash point of 200 or less.
  3. That is an oil burner and not a tart burner. What is happening is your wax is getting to hot. Some oil burners can be used as tart burner but you flame should be 2 1/2" to 3" from tha bottom of the bowl.
  4. Yes your melt pool temp will effect the scent throw. Depending on where you take the temp your melt pool will have different temps closer to the wick is hotter. That is what you really have to worry about as wicking to hot can and will burn off the scent and wicking to low will decrease the throw. But if you are getting a full melt pool you should be getting some kind of throw. You just need to find a happy medium also some FO do well at lower temps some at higher. That is also why we test to find FOs that do well in our waxes.
  5. 1.To best of my knowledge all palm waxes will crystallize. 2. That is going to depend on the palm wax you need to check with your supplier. 3. Several supplier are offering 100% palm wax. 4.No palm waxes will not hurt a plastic mold. 5.I can not think of a single supplier that will ship to a P.O. box. You can get some to ship FOs to a P.O. Now that I have answered those questions here some advice even if you never expect your candle to be burn you need to test and get your wicking right as I promise you some one will burn that candle. So you wicking is very important.

    Gel ?

I make mine. I was always to cheap to buy them.
  7. This place has some http://www.worlddist.com/search.asp?id=T6911 http://www.worlddist.com/search.asp?id=T3215
  8. Jazz is right you need to crimp your wick above the sand. I use jewelry crimps. If you look here http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2957 there are some instruction on crimping as soon as my last market is over I am going to do a small article on crimping with pictures.
  9. I just got my order today it had Pear Spice. I was so excited to hear that spiced pear would be my sample. It is a really nice scent but still not the spiced pear I have been looking for forever not enough spice part. I may try to beef up the spice part with clove or cinnamon.
  10. That sound like a good experiment but if you are in to making production for shows or orders it would be way to time consuming as you are having to stand there and stir till creamy. If you only need to make 4 or 5 candles where time was not a concern that would be great. My other main concern would be the amount of air you are incorporating in to the candle by stirring it so much so close to pouring. I think over time that will present it own set of problems. Just some things to think about.

    Gel ?

I do them a bit differant I add gel about a 1/3 full add some embeds them add some more gel and then embeds agian till full. i think doing this way gives the candles more depth by hey I just may like to do thing the hard way.
  12. I swear that rumor is never going to die. The candle is not really exploding what is happening is the glassware for some reason got too hot and broke, it will sound like a gun going off in your house. Things that can cause a gel candle to "explode" polar FOs, to low a FP on the FOs, To much FO and oil pockets are created when the flame get to the me you get a little bon fire which will cause the glass to gel to hot and break. Items that are not fire resistant in the candle they catch fire. Not crimping above the sand. Sand can become flammable. It will absorb the FO out of your gel wax and than becomes flammable. Improper wicking. That is just a few of the reason why it would happen.
  13. Well lets tackle the can it be fixed problem first. My answer is even if you could get it clear again I would not trust it. Don't burn it. As to why there are a lot of reasons why. The sand or embeds may not have been clean so as it was stored the dust seep up in the gel. The FO may have been polar which some times with polar FO you can make a perfectly clear gel but will cloud up over time. The candle got frozen I have had that happen but usually once it warms back up it clears back up. If I get a FO that does that I junk it. That FO never goes in to another gel candle again. To much FO might have been used. Even if it is nonpolar to much FO can cause clouding of the gel. That is just a few of the reasons My advice is just trash the candle.
  14. Actually soy will react to some FOs with that look. It will also grow in the jar with some FO's that is just the nature of soy. If your candles get frozen that can also happen. Soy is not a very stable wax on it own.
  15. Thanks all both set where fun to make.
  16. I don't upload pictures much but for some reason I really like these so I thought I would share.
  17. I don't sell embeds I just make my own for my candles but when I am looking to price something I do a search of web sites that have what I want to sell and I just start writing down prices.
  18. I'm not real sure why you are set on doing a swirl. If you google for pina colada pictures 99% do not have the swirl. But if you want a swirl make most of the candle like you just did then for the topping up the paraffin to at least 50% to 75% it will hold it shape better. I personaly go for the crushed ice look on the top of mine.
  19. I love mine. I don't ever want to be with out it again. My son can help me wick with this.
  20. Actually the big boys have been doing it for years. Partylite is one of the worst offenders so it is not surprising Mia Bella is also doing it.
  21. here is the link to the thread on the old board if you would like to take a look http://www.candletech.com/cgi-local/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=veggiewax;action=display;num=1098222823
  22. Wow you are determined at this point you are going to have to say that Fo is not going to work in that wax. Try a the same FO from some where else. Truthfully I don't ever give a FO that much of a chance If I can't get at least a light throw I will a pitch it. If I get some throw I will adjust wicking and additive to get it better but I still won't go what you went through.
  23. You are making things more complicated. The only time mixing FO and wax is a problem is if you use to much or you are dealing with certain FOs like vanilla that sometimes have problems mixing. Then extra stirring will take care of the Heavier FO and and if it is to much FO cut back. Every time you heat the FO you are doing a few things that I would not consider very good. The FO is degrading, dissipating and you could be changing the chemical make up of it as some chemicals change with heating. Now that being said there is times you need to heat you FO in the winter when it is really cold some FOs will crystallize a little bit but if you sit them in warm water the crystals will melt away and you FO is usable again.
