  1. chuck....are you saying I can buy rebatched soap, add a few ingredients of my own and not have to do the lye thing myself? I'll go check out your B&B post. That would be wonderful.
  2. I have to agree on the Pumpkin Pie being a light thrower. I thought it was my nose until I tried it a 2nd time being the only scent poured in a 3 day span.
  3. With the similarity and the huge price difference, I was shocked. I thought I would get one and make sure my tarts melted in it so I wasn't making any false claims. I also like the looks of the round one better.
  4. I just bookmarked this Scentsy one on eBay not even an hour ago. Sorta similar except the price: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-SCENTSY-FAITH-WARMER-3-BARS-STAND-TRIVIT-/220859487692?pt=Candles&hash=item336c4055cc
  5. It sure sounds like you are in the ballpark even if you find you have to wick down a size or two as it goes along. I started out with Eco wicks in 415 soy years ago. I really wanted to use CD wicks since so many other candlemakers have good success with them. When I got the blend I am using now (parasoy), the 2nd best recommendation was Eco. It turns out they are working for me once again. The one thing I do notice with them is the saying of "wicking for the bottom of the jar" really does ring true with those wicks....I have found anyway. They start out almost seeming to be underwicked yet turn out to not be as the candle goes along. On the other hand, if a customer doesn't burn that 1st or 2nd burn on the 1" per hour rule, they are likely to have some tunneling. Other than that, I find them to rarely mushroom on me, rarely soot and even more rare that I run across a flickering wick....those drive me crazy. I use an Eco 10 for most of my scents on a 16oz apothecary that is about 3 - 3/8" in the mostly paraffin (parasoy) blend. The paraffin used in the blend is unknown but I can tell it is not a wicker-up-er type like 4627. This kinda makes me want to get out the 4627 and give it another try with Eco's. I just cannot leave well enough alone. Good luck
  6. Ravens...you are using the container/votive blend of that supplier, correct? I know they have two waxes. I am going to revisit that wax for tarts and didn't want to get the wrong one. Guess I should check eBay to get me a Scentsy warmer too. That way I can make the claim they are compatible.
  7. :whoohoo: Awesome ....I just have to tell you I got quite a chuckle out of it where you said you don't care if they don't work tomorrow. That is so true about this candle making thing. One day they work and the next it all changes.
  8. They are still using the 2 oz portion cups.....I just found this on the board posted from yesterday:

While I was in the paper cup/plate aisle tonight at my local Super Wal-Mart I came across a 50pk of the round 2oz potion cups with lids. They are the #5 in the recycle triangle so they are acceptable for use in tart making. It was $1.97 for the pack. Great way to try them out before order 2000 from a resteraunt supply place or such. I grabbed a pack to play with as I make clamshell tarts but always have someone asking if I do single tarts too.

I am so tempted to ask someone if they know if this size is for specific warmers or is the customer expected to cut them up or what...but sometimes on dumb questions the answers are a little....ummm...testy? So I've not got the nerve to post our questions about those yet but I may one day when I feel brave :)........Just thought you'd like to read that in case you didn't see it on the board.

  9. I began testing TN Kettle Corn yesterday and while it does have a decent throw, it did not fill up the 14x16 room it was in. It may have to cure a few more days. If there is a marked improvement when I retest it, I will let you know. I do love the scent in itself tho'. Used 16oz apothecary w/parasoy.
  10. I couldn't conquer that one to my satisfaction either. However, I've read where many others have and say it kicks butt. I think they say to wick up with that wax and also believe I've saw posts of ppl who use zincs with it. I used about 1/4 of the box and gave up. Speaking of that I need to get it on the classies to make some room around here....along with 444, 464, ME...lol.
  11. Limit 3 sample packs at 1/2 off.... I'm sure I can find that many I'd like to try out for Christmas and late fall.
  12. Hmmmm....I don't know dixiegal. It could be a couple things with one being maybe the new ones need to cure a couple days or maybe you could go up one size in wick and see how that goes. Maybe change to a different wick altogether if the next size LX gets too torchy. The other thing is just possibly those two scents are not as good throwers as bite me. I haven't used either but The Scent Forum might have some results posted. Keep us posted if you will and good luck
  13. I have a TN Kettle Corn 1 oz here I'll be testing in the next few days. If you are interested I'll let you know how it throws in para/soy.
  14. I didn't find the youtube video yet but is that ever a nice site. Now that I see how a slab mold works, I might want to go with one of those. I was going with a loaf b/c I thought I wanted to be able to cut straight, with the wavy cutter and rustic type looks. This slab mold shows so many things one can do with the flat side of the bar upward tho'. These are expensive or maybe all quality soap molds are as well? The one I bought (still in box) was no where near that much. I'll have to save up for any of these nice ones with buying candle stuff so often but in the meantime it might be good I'm starting out with a cheapie until I gain more experience.
  15. Oh, no problem at all. When we conquer a blend it is completely normal to not be able to think or talk straight...although you did a much better job than I did when I found the blend I am using now. Seeing I have quite a bit of 464 sitting here, I thought I'd mess around with it after I get the big batch of candles I have waiting for me as soon as the new wax arrives. With any luck I'll have a lot of sales and no down time Did you find the LX tending to burn sideways on you? I love everything else about LX's except that. I'll still give them a try tho' when I do your blend. Yes, a lot of people do use CD wicks. I guess it is another of the interesting variables in what works for one may or may not work for the next person. However, I'll admit I do have to try what worked for the first person I read a post sometime back where someone did mention they thought LX worked best in the parasoy blends. I was an Eco person back when I used GB 415 and when I saw CW recommended them as the 2nd preferred wick for this blend, I was a happy camper. They recommended RRD as first choice but they were torches for me.
  16. I too thought it was more toward a peppermint but with a little sweetness to the mint. If the description said it didn't lean toward peppermint, I missed it. Oh well, I ordered it this afternoon. I'll have to figure out what I'm going to mix up with it or maybe make a foot scrub or something else B&B. I do have some peppermints here but they are going to be too frosty I'm afraid. I did order a large RE's dark chocolate since there are so many things to mix with that if duplicating Bert's didn't work out so it isn't a total loss...lol. I'm also on a mission to try to get somewhat close to TN Spicy Apples and Peaches. I did find an apple that has some clove along with some other spices and supposedly no crust. Probably very little clove the way that is in shortage right now. I thought..why not...seeing I was already working my addiction full force today. I haven't checked the results post on the new dude's stuff recently and should do that. I was waiting for more reports to come in after the trouble one person had. Thanks for letting me know about the mint being off. Will keep me from sitting by the window watching for the UPS guy in 3 days.
  17. Eco 10-12 depending on scent with my para/soy blend. It has more paraffin than soy. They wicked for me the same as my 16oz apothecary jars....I thought the comparison may help in wicking even though so many of us use different waxes.
  18. I have bags of 464 here that are taking up space. Now I'm thinking I may have to give this a try too. If I understood correct you went with 30% on TCS and 70% 464? I have every wick imaginable here (well, almost) so all I need is TCS wax. Maybe I could get a comparable product to my supplier blend and save a lot of money. It is great you are getting an awesome HT beginning on day 2 with 464. I had to wait 4 days or so and that was even with paraffin mixed in at various percentages. I did not try TCS tho'.
  19. On the left side of the page....click on "wax information and directions". Then click on the picture of the wax and it will bring up the list. I pretended to buy a slab and was able to put it in a shopping cart. I had to restrain myself from checking the darn thing out
  20. I'm not sure if that much dye would make it mushy but it could clog the wick. They usually say one dye chip pp of wax for paraffin. I've gone to 1.5 for soy and currently use 1 pp in my para/soy. Your FO amount sounds fine for that wax...imo.
  21. I am looking at ordering a few oils to try to duplicate it myself. I was thinking RE dark chocolate and Mint Julep. I've never tried their Mint Julep but I'm hoping to get a little hint of sweetness in it. I have KY raw cocoa and a couple frosts thinking maybe I could work something up with those + a hint of vanilla but so far...no luck.
  22. dixiegal....Congrats....Isn't it just the greatest thing when you find that one combo or blend that works!!!!!!!!! I was driving myself crazy for 2 years trying to get so many to throw, wick right, look right until I decided to try a supplier's blend on a whim (maybe desperation). I have so many different waxes here that I tried alone and blended but they just weren't what I was looking for. I'm going to put them on the classies one of these days. Ravens....I am going to re-visit TCS wax for tarts. You sold me on giving it another whirl. Actually, I had only tried it for containers...not being concerned for the tart quality at the time. It threw as well as the supplier's wax I am using now. My problem was just what you mentioned...a bit tricky to wick.
  23. I want to make loafs. I'm all confused with only being able to find silicone liners at the one place. I took a liking to the HDPE ones at Soaphutch. They look to be a little more involved than the silicone ones but they did catch my eye probably b/c they look very durable. Does the HDPE have to be lined? Isn't that the site where they showed three different M&P soaps in the same mold with dividers? I don't remember seeing any parchment paper being used but I could have very well missed it. I picked up several butters so far that seem to be common to most recipes I've saved. I need colors, lye and a few oils. I found me a lye mixer person. Didn't have to look too far but I was waiting for the offer
  24. I used them for a spring craft/rummage sale. I had no problems with them at all but I might use a different wax than you. I use a soy/para blend. I also did not use CD wicks. I wicked them as I wick my 16oz apothecary jars...if that helps. My apoth jars are the ones from The Candlemakers Store. They are not 4" across but more like 3-5/8 or so. Even with the bit of difference in the jar size/shape I got a really nice burn out of them w/the same size wick. HTH
  25. I've not made any soap yet but I'm getting ready. Just went to check out Silver Moon and all I found was silicone inserts. Is that right? So then, I would buy the wood mold elsewhere and get the silicone liner to fit the wood mold? At Soaphutch do you recommend the clear ones or the white HDTP (or whatever it is) type? I might be putting the cart before the horse but if I don't like the mold I purchased that was inexpensive, still in the box and not any particular brand name, I was looking for options. I just know once I start this it is going to be another immediate addiction and if I have low level quality mold I'm going to want to order a good one right away.
