  1. I am on the search for cello bags for a 4x4 grubby pillar. I need it to be big enough to be able to tie the top with homespun. Anybody got any leads for me? I sure would appreciate it. Also cello bags that would fit a mini loaf pan finished with a tie the same way.
  2. You guys are great... I like several of them... time to make a decision and get some new labels ready. It is so funny how a different name can make a difference but I really think it does. Thanks bunches for letting me pick your brains.
  3. Interestingly to me is the fact from Utah. That is where Scentsationals are that also market the Better Homes and Garden Brand and even had Scentsational Brands for $8.88 on Black Friday Eve at Walmart with the small wax clams for $2.00. It will always be hard for us lil people to be able to price to compete with the "big box" stores... Of course we can always underprice "scexxxy". I wish I had oodles of money so I could place big enough orders to have a large variety but alas I am a working class mommy....lol
  4. I have a couple of scents that I think the names might not be enticing enough to my customers. If I am right there and can suggest or hand them a tart they seem to sell, but people rarely pick them up without a nudge from me. NG Hillbilly Homebrew - The aroma of mulled cider with woodsy notes of oak, cinnamon bark and cloves, with hints of wildberries. Opium Type - An exotic, mystical, oriental type fragrance dupe which begins with top notes of Tangerine, Cloves, Plums, and Coriander; followed by middle notes of Lily of the Valley, Carnation, Opoponax, Rose, and Myrrh; sitting on base notes of Sandalwood, Castoreum, and Cedar. Maybe they think Hillbilly Homebrew is alcoholic and Opium smells like a drug..lol. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
  5. I am anxiously awaiting the return of the candles. She said she tried them in her apartment and her son's apartment and no smell. I agree she might have a faulty "nose". My booth at the flea market had 3 candles lit and I am next to the air vent so the scent moves around and she said she didnt smell anything there either. If the candles are fine and it is her nose I doubt she would ever agree with that and I hate to think she would give negative information about me <sigh>
  6. I had a customer today that was upset because she said that the 3 candles she had gotten "had no smell". She had Pina Colada, Sugar Cookie, Cinnabun from NG. We use 1.5 ounce to a pound of 415 and in the past 2 years have never ever had anyone complain like this. The candles are stock that is probably going on 6 months old but have a secure lid. I asked her to bring them back and I will exchange/refund. I want to test burn them myself. Any ideas what might of happened? And the final insult to all this she said that the lady where she just got a tanning package makes candles too and she had a caramel one lit that was strong through the building. Ok I vented and I am open to any suggestions? Johnna
  7. I agree that shipping is not always fast. I have ordered x2 from them and shipping once took almost 6 weeks!!! I also had 2 broken bulbs that arrived and they would not send replacements just gave me a credit
  8. I agree that I would make them purchase wholesale and deal with the shipping. It really isn't getting your name out since they are private branded which means your company typically isnt listed. But on the other hand you have to do what you feel is best
  9. I am throwing a baby shower and the theme is Dr. Seuss. One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish New Fish. I want to incorporate the "fish" on the tables. What I was thinking was to somehow make the images free standing and place down the center of the tables. BUT... my brain cannot figure out what would be the simplest way to make them stand up.. I can scan the images and enlarge and print them on cardstock paper to make them stiff enough but how to craft the standing part is eluding my brain...lol Any ideas??
  10. Hello, I was wondering if you could tell me the blend of the wax you use percentage of each or what brand. I really like your candles and was wanting to try making some of my own. Thanks! (name omitted). While I am at it I should just through in all our suppliers for fo and the recipe book...NOT. I have yet to reply to this email... I figure I will later on when my mind is quieter and I can be totally business-like...lol
  11. Is a discontinued Scentsy one.. found where it was described as "Falling Leaves An earthy blend of clove, cinnamon and patchouli". I have a customer who buys tarts from me 50 at a time usually and she is wanting to find a replacement for this scent... I have never smelled it so no clue how to recreate it. Any help greatly appreciated :smiley2:
  12. The weather was great that day so we rode the Harley up with it's little trailer to load and bring back our goodies in. They did a great job. Had several themed tables around the showroom.. like bakery, unique, summer..etc. Scents to smell related to the theme along with finished products using the scents. The decorations were great and lots of tables and chairs to relax in. We got there later in the day around 3:30 and was still pretty busy. They offered 10% off our order that day and also had a special for buying sample scents.. so all was good. Oh and gave a code that is good for 5% off the month of June also. Deb had fun little door prizes to give out and we both won one The food spread was great too.. unless you were trying to diet then you were doomed.. all was homemade by Deb's mom and yummy. If you placed an order it did take a bit longer for them to process it all then it normally does when you do a walk in order there.. but the workers were going as fast as possible and a lot of stock was bought in the couple of hours we were there. Other than slow orders the only thing I would change would be to have on display all of the products that are available for the people to touch and see. I am a visual person and seeing a bottle, mold, etc.. can spur me on to buy more than a flat picture on a screen does..lol All in all Deb and all of NG did a fantasic job and all the staff seemed to truly enjoy being there on what was usually a day off for them. Deb's mother and her 2 adorable boys were even there helping out. I told Deb personally I would love if she would offer some classes on her various products. I am a soaper wanna bee and would love some hands on teaching before jumping into the suds.
  13. My Ozzy has been known to clean up spilled wax. Since it is kosher wax I was assuming it wouldnt hurt him
  14. I give my customers burning instructions that say to discard when 1/4 inch of wax is left in the container. Perhaps the metal alone with a flame is a stronger heat and thus leads to the exploding glass??
  15. We recommend http://www.diyestores.com/ Their support is awesome. Most concerns and issues are replied to and solved within less than 2 hours, sometimes the first response back is less than 15 minutes. Is very easy to set up and shopping cart integration was EASY. You can buy your style of graphics from selected artists with them and websets are reasonable.
  16. NG has a pizza scent.. not sure about cigar scent though. I agree the youth is what gives him a boost above us other candler makers. Also, the charity end of it is big for marketing it as a feel good story. He has been in the news all over the world. He is fairly local here and a friend said they have been so busy they have had to get additional help. He admits he does not actually do the candle wax part due to safety issues.
  17. I have saw many many auctions with clamshells way cheap and tarts the same way and no inflated shipping. I do my calculations to the penny on a spreadsheet and no way I could do anything as cheap as they do.. UNLESS I used the cheapest oils and low percentage of oils??
  18. We are going if the weather is good.. gonna take the Harley Johnna & Carl
  19. ANY glass can break even the glass tested for candles. Example: Customer's mom had a large Yankee burning on her dining room table sitting on top of a heirloom tablecloth. After several hours she went in to blow it out and discovered it had cracked and the colored wax had ruined the tablecloth. I am sure Yankee uses approved glass. I personally carry liability insurance to protect me as much as possible in the event of a lawsuit. As for the filling of containers. My customers love my custom filled tea cups and the like. I even refill personal containers. It is true I do not test them for proper wicking and this fact is told to the customer. They are told I use my best judgement in regard to proper wick size for the width of the opening. I had a new lady ask if I refilled and I gave her the per ounce quote price and she said she had "some containers" she would drop off. She brought in almost 30 containers.. all shapes and sizes many of them other candle companies..When she picked them up she is given a paper with proper burning tips (each candle is labeled too) and also a statement about I cannot guarantee the burning quality of non-Calico Candle Company Glassware. Ok.. just my 2 cents
  20. I use NG and one of my top sellers... the name makes people smile and open it to smell it. I assume name comes from the "tropical toots" that a monkey would have after eating the fruits it smells like.
  21. I have a request for sweet tea. She said it smelled like southern sweet tea... no lemon. So apparently tea and white sugar smell??? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  22. We try so hard to be so frickin politically correct it is getting out of control. I personally get sick to my stomach when I smell b.o. so can we pass a law that says all smelly people have to stay in their own houses as to not offend MY nose in public
  23. Okay.. I am ALOT jealous. He was featured on CNN and Headline News.. exposed to billions and billions of people and is an Associated Press "feel good" story. Amazing publicity for Free... <sigh> I agree he probably isnt doing all of the things involved.. but he might have said the original idea that the other candles were too "girly". I seriously doubt he is truly thinking about a Valentine Day Trifecta of "breakfast in bed"???
  24. I wish I was a cute kid asking stores to sell my candles.. has to be easier to get positive responses when cute kid than a middle aged chubby single mommy I hate to admit but dang I am jealous of the free publicity he has gotten. Lot of "little" people became big due to small stories and it spreading on the web.
