  1. Has candlewic custom wick builder gone? For good? Thanks!
  2. I finally got some. Haven't poured it yet but I'm not seeing what all the fuss is about,
  3. I was seeing on a candle making forum on reddit that some people were getting candle product and liability insurance through some other sources such as Liberty Mutual, State Farm, Acuity, Geico and Indie. Seems so many new people are making candles since lock down there are insurance companies covering now. I sold for 10 years only using an LLC. But I am looking to get back to selling this coming year again but live in a large metropolitan area now and want added liability insurance, Does anyone have insurance coverage through someone not through soap guild or something? Thanks!
  4. Thanks for the responses. Yes, I did place an order during a sale. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now. Hoping after the wait I'll have good luck with the oils. Thanks again.
  5. I placed a large sample order with WSP on the 18th. It still hasn't even been sent out yet and it says estimate for shipping out isn't until the 29th. I won't be able to do business that way.
  6. I was just thinking of ordering FO from them for the first time. I do see several I would like to try a out of stock. Any idea how quickly they tend to restock items?
  7. Hi. I took some time off while moving across the country and caring for aging mom. I'm ready to get back into it. I've never ordered from AFI but would like to try some samples. I'm seeing you need a tax ID number to that? I'm still in the testing satge of my business as I am switching containers and wanting to try new scents etc. SO I haven't gotten a tax ID for this state yet. It's quite pricey to do so here. Is that the only way they will send you samples? Thanks!
  8. The vessels I'm thinking of using are specifically for candles. I'll just make sure to do very long marathon burns for testing as well just in case. Thanks guys!
  9. Hello all. I've been making candles in tins for years. I'm thinking of switching to glass. I remember people talking about how glass candles can crack or explode. Yet most retail candles are in glass? I have always used the safety wick tabs so 1/2 inch wax is left not being able to burn. Is that the issue with glass? Or openings being smaller compared to base (which mine wouldn't). I did see on a site of a very expensive candle that it said not to burn it on glass or marble surface or anything that was colder or the candle would crack. That one was a new one to me as well. Any info or thoughts on this? Is there a much greater risk with glass. Thanks so much for your input!
  10. Thank you. That's sweet of you to say. And thank you for the information. Yes. I guess more testing is in my future. I had intended to offer much less number of scents I used to carried and feel out the market here. Some of my old customers have contacted me about when I would sell again but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be willing to pay the shipping it would cost to ship across the country so I may pass on the web site for now. I'll have to research to see if the ones I decided to test are still available.
  11. We sold our house and moved across the country a couple of years ago. Then I moved my 95 year old mom here, cared for her till her death. Then helped my son get set up in his new place. So I've been completely removed from candle making except for checking back in once. After the holidays I'm thinking of getting back into the candle making business here. I'm wondering if there are any big changes you could tell me please? I know I saw peak went out of business, but then didn't. But their original oil are being sold somewhere else now? Right? I know I can't get my beloved Vanilla bean noel anymore. And I'll proabaly have to buy wax at a new location or shipping will kill me. I'm also thinking I need to get insurance this time. I was just an LLC before but this is a bigger city and think I maybe should protect myself even more with insurance and an LLC? I know there's a lot of information out there and I will slowly read to catch up. Just wondering if there are any realy big changes you can tell me about. Thanks so much! Looking forward to the possibility of being back.
  12. Just wanted people to know the oil I wanted is back in stock at Peaks so that's a good sign
  13. My oil I needed is back in stock. Whew!
  14. Not sure if I missed it. I looked even in my trash folder and can't find anything. Thanks
  15. Hi, I read a thread where people were wondering if Peak's was going out of business. Noticed they've been out of one of my scents for a while. Anyone hear anything? Wondering if I need to turn to dupes. Bad time of year for out of stocks so long. Thanks!
  16. I use Squarespace for my web site. It does real time calculating and you can check a box to use on line printing USPS discount (even though that doesn't really exist any more) which seems pretty comparable to what I can do with Pay pal. . I'm seeing I can choose flat rate boxes and my own boxes and choose priority mail and standard retail ground. But it doesn't give me an option that I can find to use regional rate boxes. which is a bit annoying.
  17. bfroberts! It is! You are a life safer. Thanks so much! Thanks for the other suggestions as well. Alas, regional rate boxes are too small usually. But I appreciate the suggestions.
  18. I have always used USPS for shipping as it was the cheapest. But now they charge the same for printing on line as they do for in the post office. It cost me $9.85 just to ship 4 candles in the same state, I'm finding it's hurting my on line sales. I don't suppose anyone has found any ways around this huh? Ha ha. Man, gets harder to and harder to be a small business.
  19. David Fields. What's the name of your store? We visit Central Texas some times.
  20. All great information!!! Thank you all so much! We will be moving to a different State and to a much bigger city than we are now in about a year. For now I'll keep everything as is, but once we are settled and I am up and running again, (everything will be shut down for about a year) it looks like I can easily sell my candles for higher price in the new location, which also means Wholesale may also be more worthwhile there. Thanks so much!
  21. Thank you! I think I tried to go through the link posted where the list of suppliers is and that one isn't working. Google got me to the right one. Thanks so much!
  22. I've been doing a search. I know that Brent passed away and there was discussions of his wife running it and of calling in for orders. Is that still happening? Couldn't find any more info on it. Are we able to order Vanilla Bean Noel? Thank you!.
  23. From what I understand, you are the one that actually ships out everything. They do a flat shipping cost. Nothing can be linked back to your personal web site or business. Nothing on labels or brochures, boxes etc. They get 15% commission. Or, if you want to link to your website shown, they get 50%. I wonder because if you do a search for scented candles on there, there are TONS AND TONS. I wonder about being lost in the shuffle. Also, I did a google search and there's lots of bad reviews about buying and selling on there. So I was just wondering if anyone had actual experience with it.
