  1. Yup, it became work rather than a nice way to pass time and now I can't think about making candles again. anybody here has been on that situation and bounced back? Dan
  2. What an irony would be if anyone survived the apocalypse to then die shortafter from a "crisco candle" fire.
  3. No tartaric acid? I think that tartaric acid might help them dry a bit more. Also you could reduce the amount of oil. I made a few bubble bars the other day and the were oily for a while but dried after a day or two. i know when mine is ready to roll when I get the texture of bread dough, If yourswhas a bit more runny maybe to much oil.
  4. Wow! Thank you for the recipe. The ingredients look exactly like the Lush label.
  5. Anybody out there tried making shower jellies with Carageenan as the gelant? I recently tried lush's jellies and found them quite cool. My daughter found them fun. I have made them using regular unflavored jello but I found 2 things. First, it's not clear. Sevond it leaves a nasty residue on the shower floor like white in color that gets difficult to remove. Has to be the regular jello thats causing that. OH! and they melt at room temp. Ideas?
  6. Where's the like button???!!! Seriously IMHO this is what candle making is about. Taking it as far as you can, making your own molds lets you do that. What silicone did you use. I use moldstar 15 from smooth on to make molds.
  7. Oh my! I was looking for some new molds on the net the other day and found a site that had these long molds to make inserts in log molds so when you cut the soap the shape comes out. They were shaped like animals, fruit, stars and stuff. Now, I thought I had bookmarked and I didn't : ( Could you guys let me know if you know what Im talking about???
  8. I would like to get these in bulk. Do you guys know who sells these wholesale or bulk?
  9. With that many containers I think it's inefficient to heat them with a heat gun. I would get one of those heater restaurants use to keep the pizza boxes and other stuff hot and put them all under there....Always had that I idea if I make that many candles..Anybody tried it?
  10. Thank you all for the nice words! I think somebody said something about the mold. It's from Peak.
  11. i made this yesterday...hope you guys like. dan
  12. Yeah I kinda thought about how I put together that sentence yesterday. It was equal parts of the tartaric acid and the baking soda. You know what the sad thing is!!! Yesterday I tried to make the whole thing again by heart and I ruined it!!!! Now I don't even know where I wrote the recipe and I'm screwed. Yesterday I used to much water and just made this stupid glop which you couldn't even shape....sucks. I do remember using up to %25 of the total powders in SLSA. But the key to get the shape right and the texture to work it is on the water.
  13. Guys I made a few of these sometime ago. I wrote down the recipe as it was something I kindda formulated on my own. I had the recipe written down on one of my witches brew books and I dunno where it is now. But it was Equal parts of Sodium bicarbonate and cream of tartar, SLSA a bit of soft oil, fragrance and water. I didn't even mold them i just shaped them with my hands into marshmallow shapes. These finish up very hard so those of you who want real hard bubble bar you might like this one. When ready to use just crumble it under the waterfor color I used mica but you could use liquid colors also.
  14. Greetings, Guys what sets a shampoo bar apart from a soap bar? I know there's the difference in the oils some people like to add castor and jojoba to it. But How much superfat do you use on a shampoo bar to make extra mild for hair. I am interested as I have customers that want some of them and I also have just arrived to the conclusion that no store bought shampoo will work for me ever! Christ talk about frizzy hair, now that it's longer it's more noticeable So HELP! So any tips guys I appreciate! Dan Dan
  15. Don't worry about competition. That's just a place where to send people who spend an hour browsing around to spend 5 dollars worth of merchandise. Dan
  16. Grettings, I don't want to go into the exact details of the situation but let me throw something out there to see what you think of this. We used to buy from a local supplier that supplies many stores locally. The problem is that he is an authorized distributor and he actually sells to customers who buy in retail (the other stores possible customers) at the same price he sells to the stores. Now I think he is not even supposed to be selling retail at all or at least he should be asking for retail price to the walk ins that buy from him. In simple words he is competing with the same stores he supplies. I mean who is supposed to compete with a supplier who gives wholesale price to every customer that walks in. Now the other stores trying to compete with the same supplier to retain their customer have lowered their prices that many products now are worthless. They have been undervalued the market so much because of price wars that their margin of profit is way bellow the %25 which is ridiculous. And now some stores have even gone as far as making coops to buy merchandise from this supplier with their customers because they can't even compete with him. Which I think is really stupid. You open a business to make profit. You might think I'm being unfair. But I do have suppliers that every time a customer wants something in a smaller quantity it gets referred to me because we are their authorized dealer on the area and I take care of that customer. That's what I call a fair supplier. I don't know if I have explained myself but really can I get you guys opinion on this!?? Dan
  17. Oh no those are real coffee beans I have seen them up close. About the wax at least it has to be a blend. Tbe lady that makes them talks about how she makes the paraffin "natural" with other waxes.
  18. I have this pic looks like palm wax or something but not sure. Quite sure is not paraffin......
  19. Grettings, Yesterday I made a batch of liquid soap and today it has like a pearly swirly look it actually looks cool but is this normal? I know have to let it settle for a week so I'm not sure what are the normal characteristics. It is made of %100 coconut oil with eucalyptus EO. I did everything by the book (literally) sugestions?? Dan
  20. Grettings everyone, I am looking for a reliable fragrance manufacturer. I've been trying to get a few samples from a company and that has proved worthless. Been told like 5 times already that my samples will be sent and still nothing. I need a reliable, responsible manufacturer that offers a quality product. I know there's a lot of FO distributors that are unfortunately closing their businesses down, some of them even because their suppliers don't keep their end of the bargain. I'd appreciate any help you can provide guys!! Dan
  21. Thanks all for the comments! Glint, I have never used water baths before. But in the future I might have to try that to cool them off. Dunno why I didn't think of that before.. I love huge candles they look awesome and will become the center of attention in any room... Dan
  22. Ok... let me clear this up again I AM NOT USING SEA WATER ON MY SOAP!!!! I WILL NOT NOR I DO NOT INTEND TO!
  23. Aha! Someone has biology/chemist experience! : ) I do agree with all the responses really belive me I have seen my share of misinformation on many aspects of candle and soapmaking. But sometimes i throw it out there to really know why something shouldnt be Done.
  24. Well by no means think I would do this! I always use destilled. But I know someone who came up with this. I personaly think there to many variables to use such thing. Lets see where this ends.up...
