  1. Thanks Luminous boutique! I am checking out their website now:) Hmm, I guess I may as well buy the big 16oz size for $17 with my other supplies on WSP...if I buy the smallest amt for $7 (at sage) then add 11 S&H I am up to $18 anyway. They have nice containers at the sage:)
  2. Which preservative do you use for your body butter and do you use the same preservative for your lotions? I was considering using germall plus liquid but I wasn't sure if I can use it in body butter. I was going to buy it from WSP but it is $17 for 16oz. They don't sell it in a smaller amt which is a bummer. I will have that bottle forever!
  3. I am ordering Shea butter soon and I can't wait to make whipped body butter and all of the tips and recipes will certainly help...thanks!
  4. Well my results are in....and I will continue to use C3. The last time I poured C3 at 125 degrees(a lower temp than I normally poured at) I noticed a difference in brighter colors and absolutely NO frosting. And, I have a great hot throw with C3. I don't warm up my jars and I don't add anything to my wax. When I poured the new wax..Excel, I poured it at 125 degrees and I still got frosting on alot of the candles. The only thing I did differently was that I added the UV protection powder to all of the candles. I selected fragrances and colors that had very bad frosting issues in the past..such as black cherry bomb(which actually only had 1 small squiggle tht you can see in the picture) & Red Apple Peel(which had mild frosting on all 4 of the jars). What is weird is that the Black Cherry Bomb's color looks great and that color and fragrance frosted really bad before. For the heck of it, I poured two jars at a higher temp to see if any frosting would occur -coco mango(peach color) & caribbean(bluish-green color) and all 4 of the coco mango jars had frosting and the hot pour for the caribbean frosted bad and just a few spots on the other jars. So, pouring at a lower temp helped the ONE candle(Caribbean) but not the other candle-coco mango. Hmmm! I did not test throw yet because I just poured them yesterday. But I can tell you that it doesn't matter because I am not going to buy anymore of this wax. I only bought 10# and I used 5# yesterday. I will make fragrance and dye free with the rest of the wax. It is not worth the extra money if it still has frosting issues. I will continue to use C3 and pour at a low temp and maybe add some coconut oil to help minimize the chances for frosting. I never tried the coconut oil but it is worth a try. Actually, I have Caribbean burning right now and it has a great throw:) But it is still no good if it is not pretty:/ I hope this helps others who were thinking about switching. 5. yes, thanks oakbrook for sharing! It's too bad your camera broke.
  6. I turn it off and unplug it after each candle making session. It doesn't take long to melt...20-30min. I would think it would not be good for the wax to keep it on constantly and it would become a fire hazard. I only turn my turkey fryer on when i am ready to make candles. Then I start wicking my jars, get out my fragrances, etc while I wait for it to melt. I really am glad we bought one because it really cuts down on time.
  7. EAC in Pittsburgh, PA has it in stock now. I am probably going to get 10#tomorrow:) https://earlyamericancandlesupplies.com/wax/soy-wax/eco-soya/ecosoya-cb-xcel/prod_1397.html IDK about the price though:( For 50# of CB-excel it's $1.35 vs $1.07 for C3 i tried pouring my C3 when it became the consistency of thick syrup and no more blooming problems. My wax colors are bright and shiny and no annoying white spots. I am thrilled. So, now I don't know if it is worth paying the extra money for the same look and ?who knows how the throw will be.
  8. Wow! Your candles look beautiful! Nice work!
  9. Like I said before, I use the turkey fryer and I am able to fill it with alot of wax ???10-20lbs and while I am making candles, if I think I need more wax, I just add it and it melts in a matter of 5-10min. I purchased clear glass automatic coffee carafes(at salvation army) and marked my own measurements on the outside with a permanent marker. I put the turkey fryer on an old wooden desk and I put paper on the floor. Very easy especially with the clear glass carafes.
  10. I looked at the NG manufacuturer site and it seems that CBA already had extreme resistance to bloom. Did anyone find this claim to be true?? "EcoSoya® CB-Advanced Soy has extreme resistance to bloom (white frosting) and “wet spots”. It contracts slightly to produce a uniform beautiful appearance, requires only one pour, has good scent throw with fragrances, and a creamy white appearance." EAC is getting their shipment in this week and I need more wax anyway, so I am going to try it. I will let you know how it works. Since I am still in testing phase for wax anyway and having a problem with the "frosting", Excel will be good for me to try. I just hope it has an "excellent' throw because I never had too much of a problem with throw. 4oz hex jar-C3/ HTP 83 10oz hex jar C3 HTP 104 8 oz jelly jar C3/UC -but may try htp 93 to decrease the mushroom
  11. Oh, I forgot to add the link for the turkey fryer ..here it is, http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3925014&CAWELAID=458351176
  12. Instead of buying a presto pot, buy a turkey fryer with a spigot already attached. I bought mine from Dick's Sporting goods for about $119 & I was able to use coupons to make it even cheaper. You just have to melt the wax in pouring pots and pour over the heating coils prior to the frst use or else you could start a fryer. Then you fill it up with wax and it takes about 30 minutes to melt and then you are all set to make candles....it has been a BIG time saver. If you search turkey fryer in this forum you will get alot of info on it. Love it!
  13. thank you Stella for all of your helpful information. Now that I know what my problem is called, I can try to fix it. I will look up frosting and read more. Maybe I won't have to worry about any of that if I use the new wax X-cel???? Wouldn't that just be too easy!:rolleyes2
  14. Hi , I am have only been making candles for almost a year but, I have started using C3 a few months ago and have problems with white crystallizing spots appearing on the sides or bottoms of some of my candles. I get the white spots even if I didn't use dye!! Prior to C3, I used a soy blend and had no problems at all. But, my candle supply store stopped selling it and so I switched to the 100% soy-C3. At my local candle supply store, he called the white spots "blooming'. He said this new wax shouldn't have that problem. He is getting it in next week. I am going to try it because the white spots are driving me crazy. I couldn't figure out why it was occurring on some of the candles. Do you think pouring the wax when it is slushy might help prevent the white crystallization? I usually pour at approx 120-140 degrees. I use the turkey fryer method and pour it at 200(so it says) and then I color and add fragrance let sit for a bit and then pour. I am going to check out the link to the website of the new wax. janine
  15. I love NG's Buttercream, sugar cookie, butt naked, coco mango, cool citrus basil(this one takes a few months to cure, then it is strong),cafe caramel, pomegranate, ginger peach, autumn magic(nice fresh clean scent),monkey farts, pumpkin crunch cake and carrot cake. There are 2 that I like the smell of the candle unburned but when I burn them they have a fuel smell. THey are lemon & yuzu. I really want those scents. I have tried letting them cure for months and that still does not help. I am going to try EAC's lemon and see if I have success.
  16. Hello! I just started using the reed diffusers and so far I used Lavender Martini (NG) in my powder room which is perfect there and Iced Cinnamon Buns (NG) in my foyer-Mmmmmm! love them both. I used 1 part diffuser base(NG) and 1 part fragrance oil . I have never had a problem with crystals. I think the diffuser reeds are a great idea. I won't buy "glade pulg ins" anymore!!
  17. Vanilla Cream from EAC....Mmmmm it's the yummiest with a strong throw.
  18. I have only bought NG's Monkey Farts this year and I really like it. It has a grapefruit top note and suprisingly no or light banana smell. It is a fruity fresh fart
  19. Hi Michele, I just tested the apple butter caramel the day after I made it. when I was burning it, somebody said they smell pancakes. You can smell maple syrup. I can't really smell the apple at all. Now I was impatient and probably should have waited little longer for it to cure, so maybe the apple will get a little stronger after curing. I particularly don't care for the maple syrup smell, so I don't really like it so far. The hot throw was very strong. Now, my son thought it smelled great because it smelled like pancakes and syrup. Pumpkin crunch cake and Cafe Caramel are awesome! Made Christmas Cabernet & Gourmet Dark Chocolate but didn't burn them yet but I just know I am going to love them! I made Autumn Magic but didn't burn it yet....it had interesting reviews on NG website so I had to try it. I am not sure if i will like it. I also made Indian summer and it smells really good and has a mcintosh apple fragrance in it, but I didn't get to burn that yet either. I just love NG's scents! Janine:)
  20. I just started making candles in April 2009. We just made some new fall scents and these are my fav so far. 1. Cafe Caramel NG 2.Gourmet Dark Chocolate NG 3. Pumpkin Crunch Cake NG 4. Christmas Cabernet NG But the older NG fall scents that I love are carrot cake, iced cinnamon buns, & BUTTERCREAM.
  21. I like the Banana Nut Bread from NG. It has a strong throw in my soy blend and it smells great. When I first added the fragrance in my hot wax, it smelled like fake banana, and I was worried. But I burned it in the candle and it smells great with alot of layers. No fake banana smell at all:yay: It reminds me of Captain crunch cereal a little.
  22. I use it as a room freshener, but as long as your fragrance oil is body safe, you can use it on your body:) I use witch hazel as a toner on my face everyday.
  23. I tried doing my first farmers market and the sun faded some of the candles. That was a problem:( For now, I am going to stick with indoor craft shows until I think of a way to prevent fading. I am buying the UV protector with my next candle order and see if that helps. But I don't know if that will prevent fading when exposed to the suns strong rays. You probably get uv rays even when in the shade. we were only in direct sunlight for 30-45min and then we pushed our table back in the shade. The candles started melting a little and I switched them out. BUt I didn't realize I was then exposing another candle and causing it to fade too. Does anyone else use the UV protecter?
  24. I have been buying NG's fragrance oils and I have been very pleased with them. They ship fast, and they smell great! There are some fragrances that had a fuel smell, such as lemon, yuzu (which smells great) and key lime pie. I ended up burning them outside and then I couldn't smell the fuel smell anymore. I also made sprays out of the the lemon and yuzu. To make the spray, I used 8oz distilled water, 1 tsp fragrance oil, and 1 Tbsp witch hazel. The bargain fragrance I bought was creamy coconut and it had a strong hot throw and smelled so good. I buy the samples first and make about (3-4)-4oz jars first to test the throw and scent. The hot throw of your scent will vary depending on which wax, wick, and jar shape and size you use. So what may throw well for one person, may not throw well for another if they use a different wax. Some of my favorites are creamy coconut(sold out), coco mango, buttercream icing, carrot cake, iced cinnamon buns, grapefruit mango, butt naked, clean cotton, vanilla pear, banana nut bread, carribean and monkey farts. I hope this helps!:smiley2:
