  1. Swirled/Marbled is not that hard once you get the technique itself down and yes, it IS a messy candle to make, but it's so beautiful and unique when you pull it out of the mold, to me, it makes it worth while. First off, if you use liquid dyes, check out EB's instructions, she's done a fabulous job putting the step-by-step instructs together, very easy to follow. http://www.candletech.com/marbled/ Second, if you use the chips instead of liquid, I've been in process of doing instructions for that as well, I've been sick the last few weeks and I'm just now getting healthy enough to tackle my marbles again. In the forum, I posted several pictures of marbles/swirls that I've done using the chips, it's easy to do and I more or less explained my technique. http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6253 I've actually had very good success doing it with container wax, same process as the ones above. You've just got to work at it. It's an easy technique once you see what's going on and it's very addicting as well. I PROMISE, PROMISE, PROMISE, I'll have the instructions THE END OF THIS WEEK! If it weren't for the fact I got sick, there would have been something done by now.
  2. I've actually thought about getting one myself. It's a pain to go through and experiment with color to get as close to a specific one, only to happen across another and not remembering how you got it to begin with. Hope that made sense
  3. Very, very pretty EB, I've always loved looking at your creativity.
  4. Beautiful candle, Donita! railroadersbrat@earthlink.net Giving me an idea on doing my marbled instructions this way.
  5. Me too, would not attempt this myself, but I LOVE THAT TREE!!
  6. I might have been a little rough in what I said, but it holds true. I don't know what irks me more, the reporters or the jacka$$e$ that has the nerve to blame a freakin' candle. Makes me want to shake the snot out of them and scream "WARNING LABELS YOU MORON, COMMON SENSE AND WARNING LABELS, GET IT???" I was bleeped, but who cares. Got it off my chest and I feel better now.
  7. I keep getting well wishes like I have from everyone here and the occasional hysterical laugh out of something Top says, I'll be back on the mend fast! Thanks everyone, you guys are the BEST!!
  8. I promise, sugar Although leave it to you, that was the best laugh I've had in days, even though I almost hacked up my left lung, it felt good too
  9. *laughs so hard, gets thrown into a coughing fit* :laugh2: :laugh2: Always knew you were a pyro sweetie.
  10. Woot, didn't see that, I'm right behind you! Edited to add: oooh, that felt good to say it!
  11. I refuse to comment based on the fact that even though I'm feeling better, I'd be preachin' to the choir.
  12. Yeah, whatever is going around is kicking butt and NOT taking names, my younger sister just got over her worse bout of bronchitis in years and it hit her the exact same way as my pneumonia, felt way run down, cold and oops! I'm feeling a lot better today than I have in a week, though I'm sore now and still weak, but I'm stronger. I have my voice back, something I lost only 24 hours into the cold, I don't sound like a frog in a blender (though one of my ops managers thinks it's sexy, so I called him all weekend and gave him some hell ). The time off my feet has definitely helped, but now I'm getting restless. Cabin fever has set in :embarasse . I went to Wal-Mart yesterday, just to get out of the house for a bit and get some fresh air, oh my god it was gorgeous. Definitely did me some good, but I think I overdid it this morning. Went downstairs to get at least a few votives and mini-tarts, figured I could sit on the couch, wrap and label them while watching a movie and I'm feeling a little wore down now. Votives and tarts still remain unlabeled and unwrapped *sighs*. Will be going back to work tomorrow, under strict orders to not overdo it, stay warm and just be lazy. Funny thing is, that came from my boss. Will be taking a pillow to prop myself in my chair, throw the shoes off, get comfy and give everybody no peace.
  13. I actually do that when I remember, I was a compulsive poker at one time. It works great, just let the candle set up completely and then repour.
  14. Ah yeah baby, you know the good ones! Of course, The Poseidon Adventure is on my list, it's one of my favorites!! Now if I can just find Earthquake on DVD, I'd die a happy woman. Heston is FABULOUS in that one. Also have the Airport series, all four of them. May even break out the VHS tapes and watch Journey to the Center of the Earth. I may be young, but give me the old movies anyday over the new stuff, the actors of old knew their business. Actors these days don't have to act, CGI does it all for them.
  15. Zithromax, Darvocet, detox tea, goldenseal, ibuprofen, ice and a marathon of Sam Elliott, Sean Connery, Don Johnson and natural disaster flicks (screw Sinatra being Mr. Blue Eyes, give me Steve McQueen in The Towering Inferno anyday)... Aside from the movie marathon, it sucks being grounded.
  16. Hey guys Know I haven't been around much this last week, and I won't be around much in the week coming, I've been grounded Went to the emergency room yesterday morning for severe back pain and come to find out, I have a slight kidney infection, I've pulled a major muscle in my back, I've aggravated a couple of discs in my spine and I have early stages of pneumonia, left lung. The pulled muscle and aggravated discs are a result of the coughing I've been doing. I can't go up and down stairs for the next couple of days, so no candlemaking for me, doc's orders since it'll only aggravate the pneumonia plus my discs. Wanted to let everyone know that this pneumonia came up incredibly fast on me, so this IS also a warning. Since we all mess with FO's, it could exaserbate the problem. I felt amazingly run down two weeks ago, developed a chest cold the beginning of last week and by the time I went to the emergency room for the back pain, I was already developing pneumonia. The killer is; for the last two weeks, I haven't poured that much, I think my eggnog is still in my Presto waiting to top off some votives I was making for some sample bags. Can't be for certain, I haven't been downstairs since I got home from the hospital. Be careful guys. If you are way more run down than normal, get to the doc so you can nip it in the butt before it gets bad. That's the only warning you're going to get before all hell breaks loose. I was so run down during that week that I would have to take power naps at work when things were slow and I've NEVER slept at work. Since we're all coming up on our busiest season, it's going to be important for all of us to stay as healthy as we can. Doc at the ER put me on a very aggressive antibiotic therapy regimen, plus pain killers and reduced my normal activities down to sitting up for a while, then rest as often as I can. All of that alone, just pushed my sample sales back two weeks. Considering a lot of us just don't have the time physically to do this, it'll kill our candlemaking time drastically. I put out an all call stating that I'm not filling orders until after Thanksgiving just to make sure my strength is back 100% before I start selling. I'm going to miss the first half of the Christmas rush. Will talk to you all soon, love and miss you guys already CK
  17. Amish Harvest and definitely Ocean. I've yet to pour my 1oz. of A.H. only because I'm terrified someone will like it. I know others do on the boards, that's why I bought it, but there's just something to it that rubs me wrong. I liked the Ocean when I first got it, it wasn't until it was in wax that something changed and I had the mother of all headaches and didn't feel right for days afterwards. I ended up tossing that candle, one of the few that I have actually tossed, even the cold throw was enough to turn my stomach. I know this sounds horrible, but the way I see it, if I don't like it, I won't sell it because in cases like the Ocean, it's not worth me getting sick over, not to mention, if I'm sick, I don't pour candles. And especially now, when I'm making candles downstairs, because the central air/heat is right next to where I'm at, it makes the entire house smell of whatever F.O I'm working on.
  18. I know I can't do my marbles without one. That technique is one of several that a heatgun is vital to get all the air pockets and bubbles out so you have a smooth, clean finish to the candle.
  19. Just have an alien fly by doing mach 1 without the after burners. Seems to be working good with mine so far.
  20. Yeah, kids are fine. They were quite amused after the fact when they realized that mom screamed bloody murder over a crispy spider. Wouldn't be so bad, but I am very much afraid of those things, after being bit twice by a brown recluse I think it's the one that's been hanging around the work area since I started working down there, haven't seen him since I found the crispy. If that's the case then oh happy day!! That little eight legged THING and me had a few go-rounds, serves him right to step inside MY thing! Kids ended up playing with him so much, he had parts everywhere I've put the watermelon off to the side since I had to move onto another scent so I wouldn't lose time (hard to eat butter & garlic pasta when you smell eggnog ). I realized when I was making the sampler's that I didn't have enough Christmas scents, but I jotted down in my notebook that I need to add 16 instead of 8oz. I feel like such a goober
  21. I've noticed that the white in my marbles has really started to stand out since I began using the Universal Additive. I thought my candles were white before, but I was totally wrong.
  22. SHARK!!!*snorts iced tea up the nose again* okay, that does it! No more drinking any liquids while I'm reading the boards :laugh2: Okay, so I'm going back downstairs to add some more wax to the poofed up votives. I'm thinking 8 oz should be enough, I don't want to lose the scent of the Watermelon by drowning it in wax and Vybar... That and I'm on a mission, I'm getting evidence of little green men tonight if it's the last thing I do!! Gotta be sneaky though :tiptoe:
  23. Gotta add this one to the list, Top. I think it's time we lock and load, dude.
  24. Well, considering I work this weekend, not much of anything. I'll be finishing up the sample bags to take to work over the weekend, I finally found some shrink wrap that I like (mental note, use blowdryer instead of heatgun, lest get deformed votives & tarts), plus I went goo-goo in the Dollar Tree, bought 30 small bags for ten bucks! You gotta love that place, I think that's where I'll be going for most of my packaging stuff. Other than that, I'm on a quest... To prove that little green men are playing with our candles!
