  1. Since you broke the wick off, about the only thing you can do from here is to melt the candle down. Before you use the mold again, wipe all of the left over wax from the inside, even if you have to heat it a couple of times, then spray the mold with 100% silicone spray. You can get this at your hardware store. Don't have much experience with metal molds but I have had candles stick in my rubber molds and I know how frustrating it can be. The good thing is, you can reuse the wax!
  2. My husband and I are commercial beekeepers so there was no question about what kind of wax I use. Although I originally wanted to make all natural yellow beeswax candles, I have taken my candle making "out of the box" and mostly sell colored, scented beeswax candles because, you gotta give the customers what they want and most of them want scented candles. I do love the way the beeswax candles burn and I love using my beeswax to make lotions, lip balms, soaps, etc. as well.
  3. Hum, just thought I had seen a show on Yankee once that said they used a beeswax blend. But now that I think of it, I think they use the blend in their votive candles. But I could be wrong there too.
  4. If you are doing a lot of craft shows I would suggest you average the sales tax of all shows you do, add that to your price and round to the nearest $.50 or $1.00. We used to do all of our prices, i.e. $5.95, then add sales tax at the shows. Every show we did we had to add a different sales tax percentage, then add all orders, add sales tax, carry all the change, etc. We finally went to doing it the way I suggested above and now all we have to carry is bills and quarters. It is much easier to figure sales, we don't have to carry all the change, and people seem to like the idea of having the sales tax already included in the sales price. Try it, you'll like it!
  5. LAVENDER ROSE A CITRUS BLEND VANILLA (even though I hate vanilla, one of my biggest soap sellers) HONEYSUCKLE JASMINE (hate the smell of that one too but a good seller) GARDENIA I would also make a matching lotion to complete the set
  6. Well, if everyone did a post of what kind of wax they were using and it's attributes, then entitled that post with the wax type, it could be done fairly easily.
  7. How about buying a candle in a box and using that as a template?
  8. www.candlesandsupplies.com One of my best sellers. Very nice!
  9. I too leave my wax melter on all the time, except during non-busy times. Just a suggestion for you, I filled my water jacket with plain vegetable cooking oil that you can get fairly cheap at a wholesale supply store. Haven't had to refill in over two years and it doesn't steam like water will. Now a question, what kind of timer do you use and how do you detemine what time the melter comes on? I would never use anything but a water jacketed melter. It's much safer and, you do have the option of leaving it on all the time so your wax is always ready to use.
  10. I retail my beeswax tea lights for $10.00/doz. Give her directions to WalMart!
  11. You should try to seel beeswax candles! People just don't understand the true value of some products unless you tell them. I have learned to just blow most of the "bargain shoppers" off and focus on the people that truly appreciate the products I make and sell. And yes, I have told people that they can buy much cheaper products at WalMart if that's what they want!!!
  12. Candles and Supplies has a really good cinnamon red hot
  13. GOOD LUCK!!!!! Been trying to figure out how to do this for about 3 yrs. now!
  14. Yes, you can use PVC for a mold. Use silicone spray to release the finished candle. We did a 4" square beeswax candle and it turned out beautifully.
  15. I thought 50% sounded about right but then I was thinking 50% more than retail pricing! It's been my experience that nothing you can do will ever completely satisfy a bride-to-be and her Mother! Especially if you are trying to match colors. You've seen Bridezillas? Yeah, keep that in mind! Good luck!
  16. I make lip balms, lotion bars, lotion, candles, soap, sore muscle rub, vapor rub, and leather waterproofer. I am currently trying to find a good recipe for saddle soap and plan on trying a healing balm in the near future.
  17. Very nice. What is the candlefun technique?
  18. I have been asked this a lot and. although I considered it, I decided that I would never sell my products under another person's label. I work way too hard making my products to let someone else take credit for them. Maybe that's just my quirk.
  19. I think I would start with #2 square braided wick. All cotton, of course.
  20. I don't see anything wrong with your site. I went all over it and found it quite easy to navigate. The pages come up very quickly which I think is one of the most important factors of a website. (I hate waiting and waiting and waiting for pages to come up) Your pictures are very nice, your drop downs are nice. I also like your suggest a scent page and the wholesale page. I might have to add those to my site. I think you have a great looking site, I wouldn't change a thing!
  21. My name started out as D Bar Farms Soaps & Sundries. Everyone kept asking me what are Sun Dries? I knew I wanted something simple that reflected my love for our bees and could be used to describe candles, honey, bath and body products and anything else we decided to come up with so SIMPLE BEELIGHTFUL seemed like the perfect solution.
  22. Just be sure to put your dust mask or respirator on before you open the bucket!!!! Voice of experience.
  23. Took a couple of pics of my wax table but cannot get them posted. Help?
