  1. I make 100% beeswax candles. Totally agree with Scented, you are probably clogging your wicks with the crayons and glitter. Go to any craft store where candles supply are sold and buy some wax color blocks to dye your beeswax. I use wax blocks to color and they work very well. It is a little harder to get correct coloring with beeswax but you can do it. The most important thing about making beeswax candles though is using the right wick. Try #2 square braided cotton wicks. That should work fine for your tealights and votives. If you used wicks you got from other candles, they are not going to work for beeswax since beeswax candles usually require wicks twice the size of wicks used for other types of wax. Also, you don't need a ton of fragrance. Beeswax holds fragrance very well. Good luck.
  2. I agree. Although I liked the this one best I didn't even know it was a half candle until I read this post. Then I read the next post and the deal about being palm wax. Yeah, got it figured out but then, we're fellow chandlers and think in those terms, the general public won't. Second one is straight forward. Good luck choosing!
  3. Also tried the coupon thing. I used to send out a coupon with every order I shipped. Had a different coupon offer for every month. Not a single one returned. Sometimes I hate customers!!
  4. Lemon works very well for odors and smells wonderful.
  5. Don't know about the UK but I get my beeswax wick assemblies from www.candlewic.com and they are very helpful with questions about what wicks to use.
  6. Yeah, tried the punch card thing too. Never had the slightest bit of interest.
  7. I make 100% Beeswax candles. Votives are very easy to make. I use individual metal votives molds and never have to re-pour. Just pour and wait. EASY and SOOOOOOOO nice.
  8. Try beeswax candles. Beeswax candles are perfect for people who have allergies and I have read that beeswax candles are the only kind you should burn if you have pet birds.
  9. Tried it. Never got a single member/customer for it. I thought it was a good idea. I just picked out scents that I thought corresponded with the season, priced it by the size candle they were purchasing and added a decent/fair shipping price to the overall cost. UGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. One of my best seller as well. But, don't scent too heavy or it can be overwhelming.
  11. Yes it is. Actually, my lip balm and lotion bar recipes are basically the same with the exception of a few essential oils. I have also had a lot of people, usually men, who use my lotion on their lips. Outside of the taste, I don't see why it would hurt anything.
  12. You are exactly right. There is a lot of stuff out there on the web and it's just hit or miss that someone finds your site. Unless, of course, you have big money to get your site up in the top billing of google. Even then, you still have to get them to buy from your site and not someone else's. But, if you sell a good product at a craft show, not only do you get that customer's future sales, you can pick up their family or friends orders as well. Word of mouth is the cheapest, best advertising I have found. I once spent $400 dollar advertising on a nationally marketed crafter's catalog (I hesitate to say the name) and got absolutely no business from it. Now I print my own brochures and give one to everyone who buys something from me at the shows. My advice: Hit the shows, sell quality products that people want to buy again and again, and advertise your website to them.
  13. My idea was originally to just sell on the internet but I found out that didn't work. Now I do everything I can to sell. Although the craft shows are a lot of work and can be very frustrating, that is probably the best way to get your name out there. Even after doing 5 years of craft shows I still don't have enough website business to make a living. I do some wholesale but, again, that is never enough. The only thing I don't do is consignment. I tried it but that absolutely did not work for me. So, back to the craft shows I go. If it weren't for the shows, I would make very little and the shows can be a lot of fun and I have made a lot of friends in the other crafters. Just don't put all your eggs in one basket. Diversify!!!:rolleyes2
  14. Candles and Supplies Cinnamon Red Hots is the best cinnamon scent I have ever tried. Cinnamon is one of my favorite scents and I have had a terrible time finding a good one but I like this very much and it smells just like the candy. GOOD STUFF:yay:
  15. I guess I have never had any problems with FNWL FO's and, although I know they are a little pricier than most, they always have what I need, I think they have very high quality products and I have had very good luck with them answering my questions. Maybe I'm just lucky
  16. I get all my oils and other ingredients from www.fromnaturewithlove.com. Very good!
  17. I get mine from www.FromNatureWithLove.com. They have a good variety and very good quality products.
  18. BAD IDEA!!! I'm tired of having the government sticking their noses in my business and making money doing it! I make little enough as it is without getting big brother involved. Making sure a candle maker is making safe candles is not going to assure that the idiot burning the candle is doing it safely. Thanks, but NO!!!
  19. Does anyone have a recipe for making your own liquid soap? I tried making liquid castille soap from my cp soap once, it didn't work at all. I would love to make liquid soap but don't want to start with someone else's base.
  20. Okay, I have been making soap for over 9 years now and I admit I really haven't been very inventive but I keep seeing the beautiful swirled soaps on the photo gallery. How do you do this? They are so beautiful! I only make 3 different soap scents because I make so many other things but I would love to add more interest to my soap.
