  1. That would be great! Is there a place you order material that I can pick it out? I guess just pm me with the details, I have a couple requests for pockets too
  2. I want one! That is the perfect size that I am looking for, and cute
  3. Does anyone know what brand of soy wax that Majestic mountain sage carried? They only have their label on it- next step is to just ask them if they will tell since they don't carry it anymore. Just curious if it is c-3 its description sounds like it, but don't know!
  4. oh, and i think that beneficial oil properties mean - and i am making something up.... say an oil has a property to lower blood pressure used in its raw state, but when cooked it has no benefit at all. That has nothing to do with soap and soap has nothing to do with eating (I hope!) although, your soaps look really yummy:) So, agan my vote is BS!
  5. carebear, that is my thought as well! I have read this about hp, but my thought is, if the end result is saponification which occurs in both methods, oil properties do change- into soap, doesn't mean that they lose their benefits. I make hp exclusivley, I wouldn't change just because one persons opinion. I have even found ways to make it very similar looking to cp, I just get it faster!
  6. I would love to read your insights on this, carbear. But, what is the dish?
  7. Ouch! I was fortunate enough to get a wilton stainless decorator pro for christmas! I can't wait to bust it out. Let us know how they turn out. Is it the same technique that others here used for the bath bombs? I saw a discussion on using that base with M&P instead of the meringue powder and whatever else was in it!
  8. Really cute! I am going to start trying whipped hp soap this week... I looked up molds to see if anyone had cupcake molds (would prob work really well for melt and pour) I found this site, and oh my gosh does she have some cute molds! http://www.vanyulay.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=3&idproduct=225#details
  9. I think that most people here will tell you how much it costs to start! Making it profitable, well that can take a while~ years. I have been making soap and jewelry for 7 years. I have spent well over 7 grand. When people say test, they mean it. When you find a recipe for soap you like, and it works, that doesn't mean the testing is over. Soap can get DOS (dreaded orange spot) and your batch will be ruined. Lotion needs lab testing, hands down. But all in all, I think the amount you can make is limitless. Depends how you advertise, word of mouth, craft fairs and markets, internet sales, home parties, and impressionable product. Not an easy thing to do, but good luck with your venture!
  10. here is another http://www.buywax.com/pilot.asp?pg=Default
  11. the only one I know of is http://tennesseecandlesupplies.com/ Looks like they don't carry much B&B.
  12. I am not exactly sure what your question is, but I am assuming you saw two different products and one listed as vegetable, the other as liquid? Glycerin is liquid, so they will all be liquid. Glycerin can be derived from animal fats, so you will have to check with the manufacture to make sure it does not contain animal fats, if it's not listed in the description. You will find that most carry vegetable though. Hope I helped.
  13. http://www.fragranceoilfinder.com/catalog/index.php Not sure if this has already been posted, but.... Thought this was really cool! Makes searching a lot easier
  14. Delores Boones hot process book says to let it cure for 3 weeks to 3 months. It will turn very white and lather well.
  15. I use anchor hocking with no problems. How high is the voltage on your micro? Yikes!
  16. I am in oregon, so a little far, but not too bad. Still need to look and compare a little more, but I think we may have found a gem
  17. not me, just looking at them. I can get most my stuff locally, but I like to do price comparison on ingredients that I cannot get, so far they are really reasonable. found them on a fluke- I had never come across them before either! Weird, because I am the search queen. They do have a customer comment area.
  18. therapygarden.com I have looked all over their site and cannot find where they are located. Great prices on what I looked at so far!
  19. I would have to agree with coco. I made some with your stantard percentage rates using soy wax. Soy wax is really soft for lip balm, so I omitted all room temp oils and used close to 60% cocoa butter, with combo of other hard oils. It came out too hard. Using a high percentage of hard oils and playing around with room temp percentages should get you- well, somewhere! And on another note, cocoa butter can be drying on the lips in higher percentages- just my experience. good luck!
  20. I am glad it is working for you! I have taken a little break from it, as I was losing sleep over it I still have a bit left so, I will test a little more. Possibly will try another wax, maybe, maybe not. Major bummer that you have to change waxes, but that doesn't seem too uncommon. You almost wonder if it is not something they changed in the wax versus something to do with the soy beans themselves. Good luck with your quest..... Kari
  21. Lynn, I have been testing 444 for about 4months now. My results differ from each batch of wax I receive. I can normally use the same wick, but have to burn longer or shorter based on how that particular batch is performing. Finding "the right wick" has been time consuming, but I have noticed going down to 1oz of fo per lb has helped. It doesn't provide that creamy look that most try to achieve, and wet spots are very common, they will even appear after the first, second, or third burn. It is a very finicky wax. This is just my experience, but through searches it seems that a lot of people struggle with it as well. Good luck!
  22. Yey, good for you and congrats! With hot process, scraping the sides should not result with white specks in the soap. Your crock scorched the outside layer of soap. I cook in the oven to get a good even cook. all you need is a stainless pot- and cook at about 190 degrees- although ovens vary, 185-190 is a good starting point. I stir at 1/2 hour, stir and check every 15 minutes. If you don't want to try the oven, try turning down your crock and don't be afraid to stir the soap once it has gelled and continues to cook. happy soaping! Kari
