  1. interesting. I have read over and over that I need to singe wick. How far apart do the the wicks need to be, and how far from the edge do they need to be? Ok, I won't lose it yet. But, I will definitely get some smaller glass containers for some single wick sanity!
  2. Well, I have been testing these @#&% 8 oz candle tins for ions now, no luck with any wick. I thought that I got it down, now that I am a little over half down, All of the wicks are having a party in the tin jumping all over the pace! I commend anyone who has succesfully wicked an 3 1/4" diameter 8 oz tin. I think that I am going to pull my hair out. I am ready to sell them, and buy a smaller diameter glass container. I have used: cdn 10, cdn 12, cdn 14, cdn 16, cdn 20, eco 14, eco 16. Major hang up with the cdn 10 12 14, eco 14 (and large flame). Many of them do have larger flames. CDN 10 seems to be the only flame that isn't dancing like crazy, but given time, who knows! I have htp 104 and 105, but tested in a different wax, I had major hang up as well. I know I should probably give 'em another try. I am testing 2 different scents as well with same color. 1/2 drop per 8 oz, and 15 grams fragrance. Testing at three hours. My initial test with the ECO 14 was a 4 hour test, and seemed to perform well, but I didn't like burning for 4 hours so I stopped the test. I would assume the flame might still dance since I didn't get the candle to point I am now. Ahhhhhhhh! See my frustration? What the heck do I do now? Anybody have room for a pregnant mental patient:grin2: oh and I use gb444.
  3. No matter what insurance you have- if your product was not at fault, their insurance will have to cover the damages. If your candle explodes, burns and causes other damages, I would safley assume that your company would be at fault and there for your insurance would have to cover the damages.
  4. So it is best to say, when gifting or selling that a consumer should always melt the candle to the edge each burn? Thanks!
  5. I have been following the three hour rule for my container size. When testing, I burn each time for three hours. I think that I have finally got it down:) So My question is: Would the candle start tunneling if I did the first memory burn for three hours, but only did a two hour the second, 1 hour the 3rd, 1/2 hour the 4th, and random burn times there after? I haven't tried yet and a little curious.
  6. ok, from what I understand, a botanical oil is an oil that comes from a plant. It can come from the root, stem, leaf, petal etc... most, if not all essential oils would be botanical oils. Now if she said "and other botanical oils", that would probably mean that some other oil was probably used with the wax and essential oils. Example: Soybean oil is considered a botanical oil. I am unaware of all the oils considered to be one and not considered, and I am not sure where to get a list of non-essential botanical oils. But, I am sure that it exists. ~ Kari Correct me if I am wrong!
  7. all interesting, I do have a clothes pin, and I improvised with chopsticks which worked like the bamboo sticks. But I like the clothes pin idea. Great help- Thanks
  8. I made another batch (4). I did a 4 hour test burn the first 2. I am now doing 3 hour test burn on this go-around. I made the cdn 10 &12, and eco 14 &16. The Eco 16 is consuming wax way too fast, which I figured. The Eco 14 for a 3 hour doesn't get nearly where it did on the 4 hour. I really don't like the cdn10 for this, but the cdn 12 really does pretty good on the 3 hour. Eco 14 does great for an initial 4 hour start burn, but I am not sure if that is too long. So we will have to see these results in a day or two when I am done. And yes, I will certainly test them all. Oh joy!
  9. I am looking to buy phthalate free FO's and they seem to have a huge selection. Has anyone had any luck with the their fo's. What about the price? I thought that candle science seemed really fair on price, everyone else seems to be 4-5 dollars more.
  10. Thanks, yes I believe that it is doing just fine 1 hour to go, even though I think that I could put it out now. Thanks you for all the replies!
  11. flightoffancy: I think I did hear that before, but I have also heard it needs to go all the way to the edge. Is the pic of the eco too much hangup? what is considered to be too much? I am about 1 hour 40 minutes into the 2nd burn. So far the eco is out performing the cdn by far!
  12. Yeah, I am liking the eco wicks better. I hope that it will catch up on the this 2nd or 3rd burn. But, I will test larger just to be sure. It just seems that it should have reached the edge by 4 hours...?
  13. Ok, here are a couple pics of the candles. I burned for four hours (do you think that is too long?) 3 1/4 diameter. First pic is of the cdn 10. Mushroomed, and when put out smoked. Flame seemed decent. Second pic eco 14 didn't make all the way to edge, flame seemed appropriate size, did not smoke when put out.
  14. pregnant and losing it! Literally.. I can't find my wick centering bars, I have looked everywhere, and nothing. Any ideas on something else to use. The wicks I use are pretreated so wrapping around a pencil wouldn't seem like it would work? Last night I poored a t a really cool temp- which was an accident as I was frantically looking for them. Seemed to work as I could hold the wicks while the candle set up. But, with only two hands and a little one beside, I don't think that is feasible!
  15. Hey thanks tootie, I have seen you a lot on the threads- been reading for a little over a week! You seem to be really helpful! Well, so far this morning, I have a cdn 10 and a eco 14 burning, The cdn 10 seems to be doing much better than the 14, but has only been an hour. The flame size on the cdn is larger than the eco, but it doesn't seem to be a flame thrower- so I am not too worried yet. Ok, 'nothr ? I didn't add coconut oil this time because I wanted to see how it would turn out without it. So should i wick up to a cdn 12 if I do? Or does coconut oil not affect the burn temp? And when twisting a cdn wich, do you just grab from the top and twist, or start from the bottom and slightly twist to the top? Maybe a dumb one but gotta ask!
  16. Hello, well major bummer! I was using an all natural soy wax with a melt point of 130 degrees from majestic mountain sage. I was in the testing process. But found out that it was discontinued. I really did not have much luck with it as I thought the melt point was a little high. So, here we go again! I decided to try GB 444 and will be making a couple testers tonight. I am going to try Eco 14 with 8 ounce 444 and .5 ouce fragrance, 1 drop color. My tins are 3 1/4" in diameter. I hope that works! P.S. I also have eco 10 12 & 16, just wanted to try eco 14 first. I have CDN 10&12 wicks- has anyone had any luck with these wicks? Do the sizes that I have seem appropriate for the wax/frag/color/tin size? I haven't seen much info on them- candle science doesn't have them on their wick guide Hope not too many ?? I just went through so many wicks with the other wax! I know that they say not to write any wicks off with a new brand so I do have htps 104 105 1212, lx22, pk15, and two others that i cannot remember! Thanks for any help
