  1. a synthetic ester vs. a natural ester will have a different smell, IMO.
  2. HP for ten years! I took the cp plunge. I also changed my recipe to custom (my own) that was scary (in my eyes)! so far, my recipe is a-1, and I can focus on the design now. Oh, my husband is thrilled when design doesn't turn out! I think cpop salt bars would be more scary for me, like you said watching it like a hawk, ahhhhh! Very inspired by your results Sorry about your sons skin, such the pits at that age
  3. I lack experience unlike a lot of these folks. But, just curious why did you cpop the salt bars? I just made my 1st batch cold process about 2 weeks ago. If it's true what TT said, I would consider a waste of energy (yours and the oven). Now, I cannot wait to try them...Never have. Glad I read this.
  4. Just reiderating the chocolate mousse I posted from above incase you didn't see it soycrazy. I literally smelled the bag of cocoa butter then took a sniff of the oil, I trully could not tell a difference at all (aside from synthetic vs. natural). I have not used it in cp, used it in hp. If I can use it tonight, or atleast soon, will let ya all know. chocolate syrup might work, but I think dark chocolate, which has a totally different smell. I lovee mms oils. you only need to use.25 to .35 oz ppo. I stick more towards .35 scent junky here
  5. majestic mountain sage has chocolate mousse, smells pretty darn close to what you want. P.S If I have time I am using that tonight! company coming...don't think it will happen need to clean!
  6. Just curious. I have had a bottle for years, but have been reluctant to use it. Thanks.
  7. I tried their non discoloring vanilla, which by the way, smells like puke. It riced on me, and ruined the entire batch! To top it off, my house smelled for days, boo.
  8. Oh, I don't do cupcakes. Hey, try sticking them in the freezer! Freezer works, freezer works............
  9. I know, It's the pits! But we are going on day three, and all good so far...... I use the 99% alcohol when i gel and that helps, also put plastic wrap over. I am still learning, and I am sure my friends and family will have more soap than they can deal with, if it comes out bad! lol Thanks soycrazy
  10. just a quick update to my previous frosting decorator question. For those of you that didn't see the thread: I had read that I should put the portion of soap to decorate with in the freezer. This is not typically what you do, based on answers. My experiment: I was working with different colors, and I found they were not setting up close enough together. I took the plunge and put it in the freezer. 18 oz was put in at medium trace, for 20 minutes. It set up nicely, and I worked with it for over ten minutes without a problem. I left the mold uninsulated on the counter to keep the base portion from gelling. Everything looks great so far, and on a side note, there isn't a stitch of ash on the top. I want to thank everyone again for their replies on the last thread, and I hope this might help you out too! (now, I need to work on my frosting technique....I was never into baking, lol!) Kari
  11. I thought I saw somewhere that they put it in the freezer, but I read so much about soaping, who knows what I saw! I wonder what would happen??? Well, anyway thanks.
  12. If I want to use a frosting decorator for the top of my soap, how long should I leave the portion of soap to be used in the freezer, and at what trace should it be placed in the freezer? Also, How long can I work with it? Thanks so much!
  13. You will! Just play around with smaller batches. I am so greatfull you all like it I can't wait to make other colors and scents, I just hate the clean up!
  14. The swirls do look like they are dancing, great word. Scented with hello sweet thang....I prefer "arabesque". Thanks so much!
  15. lol, the more I look at it I think I see a nose and a smile! Very cheesy smile. I don't know what it is about images in my soap. This is no lie, my mother and father-in-law swear, hands down, that they can see jesus in one of my hot process swirled soaps that I sent them. Oh my, they will not even wash with it. I told them maybe they needed a cleansing, lol!
  16. Even though the white didn't hold in the second spoon swirl, I just absolutley love those colors together. Great job on all of them!
  17. Second try and took a gamble, and it worked! Never mind the creepy eyes, "I am looking at you!" It is really soft, so I can't cut anymore for a while, but I just couldn't wait to see the results, I am thrilled Enjoy! Oh and scented with hello sweet thang.
  18. Moon shadow, Oh congrats! I think it was you and another that said you wanted to give it try:) I made hot process for years, but I find cp to be so much different. I wish that I had Eugenia's advice last night. Great advice! I and going to try a couple things tomorrow to change up my " " heating pad mistake. Titanium: I follow .5 tsp per pound of soap. when layering or swirling, weigh out your soap that you want to color with titanium (use your scale). add titanium into the emuslified oil/water once portions are separated (ie: 16 oz = .5 tsp). I find that I have to stick blend titanium, if not, I can't get it to blend. But maybe someone else has a technique better than mine. I hope that made sense. Best wishes, you can do it!
  19. My flash is horrible, so I hope you can see. The bottom white is supposed to be white all the way up to the swirling(measured and colored all white for that layer) . The middle layer that looks natural soap color is the problem. It is still soft, but not sticky. I don't know if I cooked the bottom of the soap, if just a curing is needed, no problem at all, or unique soap! I still say grrrrh.
  20. Thanks for the reply kitn! It's about a 4 lb batch. I was hasty and took it out a 10 minutes ago. I just coudn't wai,t and wasn't sure how long too. I want to take a picture, but my battery is dead. I should have left it in. It does look pretty cool, just doesn't looked finished, and can't describe. Once I have a battery will post. Thank you so much, you have been so helpfull!
  21. I think I way ovey insulated, which I usually under insulate. Anyway, I used a heating pad and towels over night, and forgot to turn off the heating pad this morning. remembered in the afternoon turned it off, but still left the soap wrapped. 4 hours later checked soap to cut, and it is so soft...but, it didn't crack. Thank goodness! How long should I leave it the freezer to cool it down? Have to go get the kiddos, will be back in a jiffy, so thanks ahead!
  22. Ok Here it is. It turned out pretty good, except the green and white layer are at a slant. I can't seem to get that right. I just want it flat. Any suggestions? I have tried slamming the mold down, maybe my liner isn't straignt flush on the bottom. Hmmm. Thanks for looking!
  23. Thanks everyone! I know I cannot hardly wait, I only have a couple regrets about the proportions of the layers. Will have to battle that next batch. Off to make more soap.... this battle, a black inner layer using a whisk for deep swirls. My second attempt, and I am nervous, but think I can do it. will post that as well. Gone soapin' crazy! lol
  24. Hopefully you can see this one, tough to get this picture. Oh, I hope this one turns out! My husband absolutely can't understand why I just can't take it easy This one is scented with coconut. First layer is white, second is a thinner green layer, base layer is uncolored, swirled green and white in the pot, poored uneven into the middle, lastly swirled the top and added sprinkles. Crossing fingers the pot swirl didn't go into the green layer! will post the cut pictures tomorrow, wish me luck :smiley2: Kari
