  1. Oh, I found this woman's page on the site, she apparently sells a lot of these. They're eco friendly, you know. :rolleyes2
  2. *sigh* I really can't decide who's worse, this scrap wax lady or the one who swears that her tarts don't mask odors but rather eliminate them because she uses 'commercial grade' scents. Somedays... humans annoy me.
  3. I guess if you're using the same type of wax everytime... eh, maybe it's not SO bad not my cuppa tea but seems at least somewhat safer. But to throw words like 'any' and 'all' out there.... scary stuff.
  4. But surely Kitn, don't you want a million of them at the next wedding you go to?! :laugh2:
  5. Yeah, this is the second candle listing I've seen in 2 days that has made me want to wretch. The first was just as bad... ugh.
  6. Found this on a new type of auction site today... Set of 3 HOMEmade Recycled Candles **L@@K Great, Smell Great, Burn Evenly** PICTURE IS JUST TO SHOW YOU WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE. I HAVE "SETS" AND INDIVIDUAL CANDLES IN ALL COLORS. At least 50% recycled materials. *NEW Wick, Scents, Colors! **Custom orders available as well... perfect for a unique touch at a wedding, party, or make great gifts! All candles are beautifully hand crafted by none other than moi and come gift wrapped. Keep our Planet Green.. Recyle your OLD Candles!! I can use Any and ALL leftover candle wax you have laying around for my next batch beautiful candles. Due to nature I CANNOT guarantee they will arrive in perfect condition but I will mail them... buyer pays shipping cost. You won't be disappointed. I really think I want to be sick.
  7. I primarily use dye chips and have found that bayberry chips are a nice olive/sage green.
  8. When I made MP w/Cool Citrus Basil I never used more then 1/2oz pp. If you like a REALLY strong scent though, try the 1oz and see how it works for you.
  9. Most exfoliants are added by a stirring method. For example, when I did MP soap one of my favorite to do was called "Mocha Morning" Coffee FO and Mocha coffee grounds. I'd get my MP ready, heated, scented, colored, etc... and then put my coffee in and stir like MAD until it started to cool some. It'll start to get an almost elastic type of feel to it and it'll get fairly thick... POUR FAST because it'll cool on you quickly then you have to reheat and stir all over again.
  10. Well, I'm glad to know that it's not just me struggling with making an interesting sounding label. It's too late now to start messing with it but I think I'm going to play around some more in the morning and see if anything good pops into my brain!
  11. Candybee, I think maybe I wasn't descriptive enough. I'm not entirely new to this process. I've been making our labels for quite some time, it's not a design problem, or anything like that. I've got sheets and sheets of proofs and potential label designs saved it's a matter of what's going to make that label POP. "Paraffin Wax Votive Candle" is just... BLAH to me. I'm trying to find something that sounds... cozy, inviting, SOMETHING. When I'm making B&B labels, it's easy for me to say something like "Super Moisturizing Hand Salve" for example. I'm trying to find something (mostly for my votives) that's a little more inviting. Everything word wise I've come up with reminds me of a generic box of Corn Flakes at the grocery store. I'm fighting both size restrictions (because obviously a super huge label is not going on a little votive candle) and the WOW factor I guess you could call it of a votive candle. Maybe I'm just jaded on votives. I haven't made them in a while, DH has really taken over just about all the waxy stuff and that could be my problem. I'm just trying to figure out someway to make it more exciting.
  12. *sigh* So I'm at a somewhat awkward point in that I'm selling just a LITTLE bit. Just enough so that I have a reason to make stuff because I can't possibly burn/wash/etc... everything that I want to make. Whereas it's probably not the most profitable way to go about things, I'm more or less content for the time being. Anyway, that being said, I'm somewhat at a loss as to what to do with my candle labels. I'm really trying to make one somewhat generic label that I can 'personalize' with scent name but much past that, I'm really not sure what to do with it. I have a really cute background for my label that goes along well with the labels I've made for my B&B stuff but what exactly it should say is where I'm stuck. DH is NO help because even though I make very few of our candles anymore (B&B got to be WAYYYYYY more addictive for me then wax) I'm still the "Labeling Department". So... HELP?!
  13. Have you tried Essentials by Catalina? Or Mid-West Bottles? I've ordered from both before with good success.
  14. I don't use LX wicks either but I agree it's likely that your wick is burning too hot.
  15. I'd love to find a way to preserve it as I think it would just be GREAT to have around.
  16. I have this kind of box that I use for my votives: http://allwhitecandles.easystorecreator.com/items/candle-packaging-and-candle-shrink-wrap/100-votive-box-candle-trays-holds-12-votives-votbox-detail.htm There's another site (at least one) that sells the exact same type of packaging but instead of holding 12 candles it holds 2, I just can't remember for the life of me who it is. (NG is sticking out in my head for some reason but that could be totally wrong.) Hopefully someone will chime in and help me out here.
  17. I was going to suggest the aluminum tape too. I didn't know you could get it at Walmart when I bought it though and got mine at Home Depot. A HUGE roll cost me about $7-8 but as far as I'm concerned, that stuff it worth its weight in GOLD! Wonderful stuff. If you can't find it/it doesn't work you could try that mold sealer puddy stuff. *Goes to look for a link cause I don't know the proper name* http://newcart.candlesandsupplies.com/Store/Products/Candles/PID-MS.aspx That stuff is really good too. I've never tried it with silicone but it might be worth a shot. I do agree also that if the manufacturer/supplier advertised it could be turned inside out, then contact them about it and see if they'll refund you/replace it, especially if it was a recent purchase.
  18. Melt n' Pour is pretty easy but if you've never done it before, get a kit, it'll give you very easy to follow instructions and help you along the way. The only testing I would really be worried about doing is taking one bar out of the batch and using it to make sure that you didn't over-dye it (I've done that) and that it gets all nice and sudsy and nice (which it should) so that the little ones enjoy it. As far as the other stuff? I agree with everyone else, label it as soap, give a full list of ingredients, and let the parents figure out if they want their kids using it.
  19. I got a similar email but the girl was 21 and I checked out her YouTube which was legit as well as her blog and twitter. She regularly does reviews of B&B stuffs and cosmetics. There was nothing about a contest and she seemed nice enough so I agreed to send her some samples.
  20. I think I wasn't totally clear. Food coloring in small amounts is fine, if you over dye though, it can and likely will stain your skin.
  21. I haven't tried it but I'd be worried about the plastic absorbing the smellyness.
  22. This whole thing just sounds messy. If you're not comfortable filling the jars up the way the previous person did, then don't. Tell her this is how YOU make candles, you might want to offer her a bigger/better "bulk" discount so that if she feels she has to sell the candles for less then she's not taking a loss on them. Granted, she'll have to buy more of them in order to make it worth it for her but that leaves the choice up to her.
  23. Yup, lighlight the number and enter something smaller then 8. I think on my 1.5 labels I use a 6 font for ingredients.
