  1. If you wanted a back-asswards (aka lefty) to teach a crochet class I might be up for it. I just know as a lefty, trying to learn anything from a book written for righties is a pain in my heiny. I was lucky to have another lefty teach me and would be willing to pass along some knowledge. Now if only I could figure out knitting.
  2. I used both the Lemon Drop and Tangerine in my OHP that I made the other day, look as gorgeous as ever! Now to remember the FO next time.
  3. I haven't done a home show yet, but a girlfriend of mine does scrapbooking home shows and has other friends that do home partys for different companies and she gathered up the promo catalogs they give hostesses and we worked out this 'reward' system for me: $150 total will earn you $15 in free candles. $250 total will earn you $28 in free candles. $500 total will earn you $60 in free candles. $750 total will earn you $98 in free candles. $1,000 total will earn you $140 in free candles. Plus the hostess get One Free Candle just for hosting. though now that I'm expanding to B&B, I think I'm going to have to tweak my program. I also have a preferred customer program and offer double squares on party night.. though its usually $10 a square and the redeem is worth my current Candle of the Month offering (again something else to tweak) I get my Preferred Customer cards at www.thebooster.com I usually but the ones with the info card to start and then get the unattached ones as they redeem their old ones. Hope this helps, or at least gives a few ideas.
  4. I love that combination. If I could find fabric like that and it didn't cost an arm and a leg, I'd soo have a set of scrubs in it!
  5. I think I mixed quite a bit of air into it when I was trying to mix in the last of the stubborn separated stuff, so when I banged it out they all kinda came to the top and I squished them flat when I used my spatula to finish leveling everything out. I really enjoyed trying this, and think I might use it for the bulk of my 'plain' soaps and use CP for more of the fancy specialty style soaps.
  6. I tried my first OHP the other day and am finally getting my pics up. This was supposed to be ginger peach, but I realized as I was doing my marbling, I forgot the FO. Oh well... Live and learn I like the way it came out except the top, but I think if i use my log mold and swirl the top with one of my chopsticks, I may get something I like.:rolleyes2
  7. Thanks E, though the closest to CPHP I've gotten is the tutorial, but at least I have an idea of what your talking about. It did all finally 'come together' and formed a nice slick ball of cooked wax to slap into the mold. I'll get a pic up here in a bit once I make sure the kiddies are all good n put to bed. soy, i know how you mean about the zap, was scared to try the first time, but figured I had to do it or never know. and I tested it again once it was cool just after I cut my bars and there was no zap, so its good to go. though I feel like a bit of a rummy and even though I had my FO out, I realized I forgot it as I was in the middle of my marbling...*faint* << felt like this. But I'll look at it this way, I can take pics and give to the fam, rejects are better than nothing and my dad will probably appreciate non-girly smelling soap to wash with.
  8. So I'm trying my hand at OHP, and I'm following AJ's class tutorial. Does the batter stop trying to separate as it gets closer to being 'done'? I've been just stirring it back in and letting it cook more. Just tried the bubble/zap test and i got a little bit of bubblage and :spit:ZAP!! well at least I can now say I know what zap is for sure. I know it means I need more cooking on it and am waiting patiently . Of course I'll share pics when I'm all done. Oh man, i just realized I forgot the sugar.. :tiptoe: guess I'll get it next time.
  9. HL does offer some scents in a larger 4oz size, but from what I've seen it the usual (read boring and usually not the better of their scents) like vanilla and cucumber melon (at least at my store), and like Scented said, I've gone on to finding a better one I like. Though for my candles I still buy their big bottle of Spiced Apple and Midnight, haven't found anything close or able to replace the first or the second.
  10. Good looking soap! My second batch wasn't so pretty but I know the family is going to gush over it anyways... Keep it up and enjoy the ride!
  11. I think I know whats goin' on here, your looking at butters for items like the lime and green tea and coffee and lavender butters. These are plant type products which if I had to take a guess are infused into the liquid oil (almond oil) and then combined with the solid base to make a butter type product. The page is even title Extract Butters. The items like shea, cocoa, aloe, and mango butters are all 100% what they are, no fillers needed becuse when processed they make the butter product. These are on the Natural Butters page. Hope this clears up the confusion. I'm sure if you look at a few other suppliers' sites, you're sure to find many more exotic natural butters available.
  12. Very cute!! Its hard to believe Mom's day is just around the corner. I wish I could be one of the lucky moms that gets to get one of these.
  13. I know this is an older thread n hasn't been messed with in a while, but I just had to answer aysha's question about leaving out the cetyl alcohol because I know the answer. I didn't have any when i first whipped up the scrub and when I tired it, didn't like the 'greasy' feel it left behind. I know know that the cetyl is a surfactant and will help wash away the "grease" but still leave behind the clean scrubbed and 'moist' feel that I like when I use a scrub. I wondered for a while why my sugar scrub gave me the greasies, but not my maize scrub didn't. Simple answer after a little Google-ing, I used some SLSa in my Maize scrub. So now when I make my next batch of sugar scrub I know what needs to be done!
  14. I'd suggest using an inkjet over a laser printer with the freezer paper, wouldn't want to get the wax all caught up in the works. Let us know how it goes, might be worth it to try packaging a couple of my things in for samples n such.
  15. Good luck with that, I've spent the last month just trying to get someone to e-mail me back about an ingredients listing for their M&P. There isn't anything on the bag of it. So i'm just using it up making sample for my site photography and with the kids for a rainy afternoon activity. Will have to wait to make actual inci label-able product till I can order some SFIC bases to use.
  16. Check Here... http://www.craftserver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70508 post #6 has a link to the SoapDish forum where I originally found em. I made up a batch of em and they're pretty interesting. They're soft but firm at the same time. My daughter loved them, they foam up the tub like a champ.
  17. Not too much, found a few new recipes to screw around with in the 'lab' and probably a couple batches of soap. Otherwise plan on spending time harassing hubby.
  18. wow.. what a coincidence, I was surfing around earlier and came across a recipe for tub tints http://www.teachsoap.com/bombs.html#Anchor%202 Just scroll down and you'll find it all the way at the bottom. I haven't had a chance to try it, but it might be what your looking for. I'm going to look through my stash of stuff and see if I have a small piece of pipe or tubing to go with a narrow dowel I have to make a 'pill press' to make them into little tabs. worth a dig around if anything.
  19. yes indeedy, I used 1/4tsp to the about 12oz of batter I colored. I love hot it lives up to its name and really pops
  20. So after picking it up from wicked1 and FINALLY whipping up my slab mold, I just had to soap it right away.(if I had assembled my mold with glue, that would have been wet still) I used my veggie recipe, which traces nicely for me, but after letting it sit and cook overnight, it felt like it had a film of oil on the surface, kinda weird, I may have to soap something else with it and see if it does it again or not. But man, did I pour off too much batter into my color, I wanted to do a few lines and swirl those to kinda have a surface of the water look, but ended up just dumping all my color across the top and just kinda mixing it and probably got quite a few bubbles into the batter doing this, explaining why the surface looks like a ton of little bubbles came to the surface and popped. But I think it just adds to that watery look. guess it just means I need to make more and really learn just how much I need to do what I want with it.
  21. I Lurve my POPs. I use em in just about everything B&B I've made so far. They made my lil one's M&Ps just an awesome color. and I'm waiting on my second batch with them to be in bed tonight, can't wait to see it in the morning n give it a cut. You're going to love em
  22. They are full 8oz candles, and though its hard to see, they are filled to the 'hip' of the jar, I've tried them at 10oz, but I had enough customers complain that it took just a little longer than their liking to come to a full melt, so went back down to the original size. I'm thinking if I can find a tureen I like, that I may again offer a 10oz size that will melt well enough to their liking since those are more squat than the Elite jars are. Here are direct links to the pictures, http://www.kaylorskreations.com/shop/images/candles/June2008.jpg http://www.kaylorskreations.com/shop/images/candles/May2008.jpg Hope these are a little easier to see, though I may have to work on my photography some more. Maybe I need a little something to use for propping. Any Ideas?
  23. You aren't supposed to be using 6yo Indonesian girls to make your candles? And here I am wasting my money paying her a penny a candle.. Drat! Well I guess that means I need to actually Start pouring them myself...
  24. Just thought I'd share a couple of my new wickless candles with everyone, I thought I'd be just a little different and do 'something' with them instead of the usual single color pour that they usually are. I realize they aren't going to look as unique after the first time they're melted, but like anything else, it's all about the first impression. I've got a few others to work on this weekend, like my cappuccino and cafe caramel. I know I need to avoid colors that will turn to a not so nice color when they all eventually blend together, but I'm sure I can work something cute out. The first is NG Creamcicle, I poured it in Orange and White layers, like when you look at the bottom of one, smells totally YUMMY.. one so good you just want to take a bite despite the fact it isn't food. Next is NG Lily of the Valley, a really close copy of a plant I got a few years back, if you've never smelled them, they're really unique. I decided to try chunks with this one, came out pretty good for a first time, though I think I'm going to have to work on getting the chunks to the side of the jar a little more.
  25. I plan on making a few wickless this weekend, want to make some of my scents look just as good in them as they did in the original containers, got a couple sussed out but need to work on others. Thought my Creamcicle and lily of the valley can out quite unique, definately not what one usually thinks of in wickless.
