  1. I pop em out as soon as they are cool and set all the way through, though I'm usually doing more than one thing at a time so sometimes they sit and wait for me for an hour or so before I remember to pop them out n start the next batch of them. I'm not a M&P expert, but I'm sure someone would know how long about 3oz of it takes to cool before it can be unmolded.
  2. Monday is my birthday, so no working then for me, but I plan on making some soap all for me -none to share- and might make some shaving soap for my dad, mom says he's running low. I got some bentontie clay with my last order from the sage and think it would make both a nice facial soap for me and my oily skin, and some excellent shaving soap for dad and anyone else. Otherwise nothing else planned, besides doing all my laundry and deciding what to pack for our upcoming vacation.
  3. I stick my sticks in a few minutes after I pour the pink 'tip', let it set up a few minutes to form a thick enough layer all the way around, but still wet in the middle. and put it almost all the way to the tip, otherwise I end up with too long sticks at the end. I've found grabbing the base then kind of twisting the length of the pop I'm trying to remove until it separates from the mold is the best way, it was a pain to get em out if I put em in the freezer. Though I'm sure I could probably 'grease' the molds with something, but it would have to be spritzable because of the shape of the mold. Laura, I'm sure one lick would be all he would manage. unless he LIKES the taste of soap. I had a friend in school during a Halloween party, picked up a candy corn shaped candle. We told him it was a candle, but he still nibbled it anyway and ended up upset it was a candle. Go figure.
  4. I made mine last night, made it a yummy blend of cranberry and green tea. TASTY!! I used some of my rolled oats I hit in my bullet and poppy seeds, and colored it with a little cocoa powder. Looks good since I cut it this morning, and need to let it sit a couple days before I'll try it to let it harden up a lil more since it was OHP.
  5. I use Nature's Garden's Black Cherry Bomb... soo much goodness!!! This is the mold, Brat. I really need to pick up a couple more now, I cracked the top whacking it on my table, was trying to bust out the last one and must have caught it just right. Hubby thought I hurt myself cause i screamed "DAMMIT" from out in the back room after making a loud crack sound with it, I knew it cracked right away.
  6. I've seen fish oil in the supplements section at my local Walgreen's, you could check your local pharmacy for it.
  7. Had to take a peek at the pier1 stuff, those are adorable. My local pier1 didn't have them the other day, just a bunch of soaps on discount. I would love to find other ice-cream/pop molds like the one I have. Would love to offer a multi pack like that. I like a few of their fragrances, but cringe thinking about the lotion they carry. One of my girlfriends ONLY uses their stuff, guess I need to introduce her to mine and see what she thinks. Michi, my black cherry is the bomb type too, I love how it smells the whole house up in such a yummy way
  8. mmm.. looks wonderful dahlink. sounds like a wonderful smelling mix, though I couldn't use it
  9. i did it, I did it:yay: I made lotion the other day, was going to wait for my Shea, but just couldn't do it. So used safflower oil instead. I've been tinkering with a theoretical formula for the last 2 mos, but always found a reason not to do it, but Sat I finally put my foot down and did it. I know lotion is pretty basic, but heres my formula 15%oils 77%water .5%glycerin 2%stearic 3%E-wax .5%preservative (lgp) 1%Vitamin E 1%FO the oils I used are- Olive, safflower, mango butter, sunflower oil, flax oil, and avocado butter Its a beautiful creamy consistency thats not too runny but can still come out of a bottle, absorbs wonderfully but not too quickly. Its not greasy either, (I can open doors right after putting it on) but personally my hands feel a little waxy, a couple of the moms that tried it said they didn't feel it, so I'm wondering if its just that I'm soo used to my dry,dry hands that their actually being moisturized is making them feel like this. Or should I tweak the recipe with something to 'cut' this feel on my hands?
  10. I currently use molds I made with foamcore and lurve em, they insulate nicely and I always get a full gel with just a towel wrapped around it. This summer though, my dad has plans on building me some molds, now to decide if I want them out of wood, plexi or what ever material. Wood wouldn't bother me, I'm pretty darn good at lining a mold.
  11. I bought some poppy seeds the other day specifically to make gardeners/mechanics soap. Now I need to cool off my duff, get up and get in and make some soap.
  12. NG still has the 1oz bottles your thinking of ashee, I just saw them a few mins ago while trawling the site. I LOVE their stuff, every scent I've tried so far hasn't let me down. A case of 24 bottles with lids is $7.99, not bad personally.. http://www.naturesgardencandles.com/candlemaking-soap-supplies/item/pl-2/-Perfume-Fragrance-Bottles--1-oz.html
  13. How yummo is this? I found an Ice Pop mold at the Dollar Tree (am going to have to go back for another) and thought they looked like rocket pops.. So I poured em up in Black Cherry in Red, White and Blue. First in Clear, then in White, and I like the way they came out with the white better.
  14. I'm looking at the remainder of the mess in the bottom of the oven as an excuse to clean the thing, plus all I'm going to need is a hot wet rag to do it CB, it was used in AJs OHP lesson/tutorial. Like Donna said, it's supposed to help with fluidity and making it easier to mold. I may have to mess with my amount of sugar, maybe something along the lines of 1tsp pp. I liked that with it it cooked faster, but with the amt in this batch, I didn't like the volcano effect, though my son thought it was awesome
  15. I decided to make another batch of OHP tonight because the girl who does my nails wants a bar of the same soap I OHPed the last time but forgot the FO in. I figured it was as a good a reason to 'fix' my issue and make some more soap. So I repeat the process this time not and remember to put the the sugar in the lye water, grab my NEW SB and have at it till a pretty good trace then pop it in the oven, set the time for 30min and proceed to start dinner. I pop open the oven to have a peek 20mins into cook time and OMG its done volcanoed right up and out over the sides of the pot. I quick stick my spoon in and quell the bubbles. I grab the roll of wax paper n rip off a sheet and put it on the oven door before I pull out the rack with the dripping pan. Grab the tongs to lift the element and a silicon spatula to scoop up all the half cooked batter off the bottom of the oven. I'd lost almost half my batter. I clean the mess up as well as I can and pop the soap pan back in the oven to finish cooking. No reason to waste the good stuff in the pot;) less than 20 minutes later I check the pot its in complete gel and passes the zap and bubble test. I pop it on the stove top, SCENT IT:grin2: color and marble it and pop it in my modified log mold (put in a small piece of foamcore to act as a stop for the now smaller batch. :embarasse So far so good, looks like I got the amount of color for the smaller batch about right, and its sitting and cooling as I type. Guess I'm going to have to wait till morning to see how it really is. Now this leaves me scratching my noggin:confused:. WTF happened here. was it the sugar? should be 1tbs pp right? I didn't erupt before when I forgot the sugar. I even made sure I used the same recipe (lard vs. shortenin') While I'm a lil lost, I'm dying for it too cool. the scent (ginger peach) is wafting out of the kitchen and i'm oh and another question. I have some 'young coconut juice' as its labeled on the can. If I use this straight as my only liquid, will it discolor? or would it be better to use it 1/2 h2o and 1/2cj, putting the lye in the h20?
  16. Sounds like you should at least let him have an hour in the sun for this find. At least now you have proof he listens to you and it all doesn't just go in one ear n out the other.
  17. i get quart sized bottles of 91 and the usual 70% alcohol at my WalMart. they don't cost much more than .15-.25 a bottle than the regular sized ones. With DeAnna's suggestiong, you might also check with a local medical supplier, you might get a deal and not have to pay shipping on it.
  18. I like my lard soaps. Its not much of an issue out here, but this an AG town. We do have a few ppl that do only veggie, but they tend to be from the urban Yankee or So Cali areas. I take whichever bar I grab before I hop in the shower. I know what piggy smells like and never got any kind of whiff from lard, either i'm not getting it or my nose is dead for that kind of faint smell from stickin it in FO bottles
  19. Beautiful. Breath taking and awe inspiring. I especially love the antique finish on the bottom ones, I'm not much for rustic, but love most things with a crackle finish.
  20. awesome, will have to give that a try next time. and good idea about usiing a lil more meringue to hold it on. I kinda rushed the first bit of mixing so it was taking longer to get to medium peaks, so I added about a tsp of SLSa to it and it thicked up just right real quick. I'm hoping to get some bubbles out of it, but if anything it should cut the oiliness of the cocoa butter in the cupcakes. Louise. I mean meringue. I bought a can of Wilton meringue powder, mixed it with a few tbsp of sugar and 1/4c water n beat the snot out of it then added a couple more tbsp of sugar to get it to medium peaks. I've read where some ppl's meringue gets too thick and hard to pipe, but I think they're beating it to too thick and dry a consistency. Hard peaks is great for a chiffon cake, but for piping it needs to be just a hair thicker than medium peaks. << can you tell I've done A LOT of baking and pastry work??:lipsrseal
  21. I LOVE LOVE LOVE even lurrve the pop appeal of your pink sugar. Black or Chocolate with hot pink is one of my fave combinations.
  22. I had to share 'em now that they're all done, they just have to sit and let the meringue dry out. My mini bath cupcakes. These were fun and they are a sweet little size. Going to have a bear of a time convincing hubby not to eat them. I had more meringue than cupcakes, since I was just testing out the recipe and only made 10 of them. I just piped out the rest of the meringue into little tops on some wax paper and will have to find a way to attach them to future 'cakes', but I guess thats a bridge to cross when I get there. Wasn't sure about adding FO to the meringue because I know just how sensitive it can be, has anyone tried it, or do you just leave it unscented?
  23. Oh lordy those are truly works of art, if I were ever lucky to have any that beautiful, I don't think I could ever burn them. Hope you raise lots and lots to go towards the vet bills.
  24. Apples and Maple Burbon screams redish brown to me too. Lovespell seems like something maybe a bit darker than lavender Witch's Brew would be maybe a deep aubergine, maroon-y purple and Figs i would think something of a tummy dark brown with a hint of red to it. aqua is a blueish green color, but hard to say exactly what ratio to use, cuase everyone's definition of aqua falls somewhere from more blue than green to more green than blue. Personally my aqua is like the dolphin on the football team's logo. Not too sure about your seashell pinky color, but maybe pink with a little red or burgundy. worth a guess there hopefully
  25. I think it was becuase it was my first try with OHP, and was still stressing a little over the separation. Then was excited because it did all finally come together. Kinda like a little girl getting excited cause she gets to wear a new dress momma made and getting out of the bath, only puts on the dress...
