  1. I ended up giving up on them too! Could not get them to wick for nothing. Thought about using them for wickless then just ended up selling them on Ebay.
  2. Oh duh! I was not thinking about the plastic on plastic part of it. It makes sense because the aroma beads are plastic too. My caffeine had not kicked in this morning when I posted this. Thanks for putting my brain in gear!!!
  3. I need your opinion on this! Do you think it would be okay to use plastic cookie cutters to make ornies??? I know you put these in the oven but not for very long. Do you think the plastic would do good in the heat for those few minutes? TIA patty c
  4. I have found that the wick just stays there after you pull it up into the votive. I have never had any problem with them falling out. They are usually pretty tight up in there. And if you so have a problem the warning label over the wick will also help keep it there.
  5. Bittercreek's EzSoy is their trademarked name for their soy wax. From what I have gathered form everybody else's posts is that it is pretty close if not the same as GB 415. HTH
  6. I love BNL's Warm Apple Pie but I am having a heck of a time wicking it in my 12 oz jars. Went all the way up to CD22 and HTP 1312 and it still won't go. It works fine in the smaller containers though. It does smell pretty close to home interiors. I have not messed with it much lately but I think my next step is to back down on the FO a bit although I really did not use much more than 1 oz pp. HTH
  7. There is another place someone let me know about. http://candlesupplys.us/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=823 They have good prices on reeds and their bottles and boxes are not bad. That would help bring the price down a little.
  8. If you mean they get soot on them from the wick too large and FO overload that can usually be just washed off with soap and water. I use ceramic coffee cups and that does not happen to me except for sooting up once in a while. I have never had it turn black and stay black.
  9. I used to do those type of candles. They have a swirly almost marble look. I found the easiest way for me to do it was to pour the candle with no dye in it and wait for it to look really cloudy while cooling. Then I took liquid dye at the end of a toothpick and ran it along the inside of the glass in swirly kind of lines and then let it set up the rest of the way. After the candle was completely cooled I took a heat gun and heated up the jar on the outside where the dye was and move it around to make it swirl. It was kinda cool because every candle had its own look. Of course, for safety I used oven mitts to hold on to the jar and there was one time where the jar cracked. I had tried different methods but that was the only one that seemed to work for me.
  10. That was another reason I was drawn to them.
  11. I do have some 3mm tabs here so maybe I will give that a try. Any other comments here would be appreciated!!!
  12. I know, I was kinda thinking that too. Might have to use the 3mm tabs. I might have to nix the whole idea and just use them for wickless candles.
  13. Have you ever had a customer complain about the wasted wax at the bottom of these jars? I was on another board and someone posted that they do not use these jars anymore because of the wasted wax at the bottom. They did not state that people were complaining about it but I was wondering if there have been any problems like this.
  14. Looking at the charts on the vendor site I think those are probably the sizes I need to start with. How many do you have and what are you asking?
  15. Thank you! I think I am starting to drive myself crazy with this wick thing.
  16. Well I tried the Performa wicks and was not really happy with the burn. They just did not seem hot enough and they still curled a little, which is why I tried them. Was hoping they would not curl. Has anyone here used LX wicks in soy? Do they seem to work okay? Do they curl over or stand straight? Sorry for all the questions but I am trying to find a wick I can be happy with.
  17. I would still stick with the 1/4" rule. 1/8" seems to short to me! IMO Although I still trim my candles with a wick trimmer and I get a little too short sometimes.
  18. Another thing to watch for is just when you think you have it figured out you buy more soy that comes from a different batch and it is not the same. You have to test a few candles out with each batch of soy. Don't get me wrong you do not have to go and test everything again but a test of the lighter oils and the heavier oils should do okay. I am sure there are more experience people here than me that can lead you in the right direction with that.
  19. Yes, Bittercreek. They have two locations, North (WI) and South (TX). I know for sure North carries them but I do not know about South.
  20. You know I have heard about that but forgot all about it. I might just give it a try to see how it works.
  21. I just use straight 415 and I have tried CDs in the past but they did not mushroom. I was always told if they mushroom then they are too big and to try a smaller wick. Right now I use HTPs and they work great except for a few fragrances so I am leaning towards the Performa wicks. I have not tried them yet. I plan on ordering a sample kit to give them a try. My biggest gripe is the curling with HTPs and CDs. Don't like the way the flame looks when the wicks curl.
  22. I know what you mean about the curling. I am not sure why but that really bugs me. I just don't like the way the flame looks when the wick curls over. I must be a little anal. I am going to be trying them in 6 oz, 11 oz and 20 oz tureens. I am almost sure I will have to double wick the 20 oz. I have not ordered them yet. Just thought I would get some opinions on them to get a clue of what I am getting into.
  23. Thanks Lisa! I am sorry to hear about your dilemma about your oil and wick dilemma! I think I will order a sample pack and see how they do. I actually will be trying them out in larger jars. I have tried CDs and HTPs and I can get the HTPs to work in most but I am having a problem getting a few fragrances to work half way down the jar. I even double wick. If anyone else here has experience with these wicks I would love to hear from you!
  24. Does anyone here use Performa Wicks in soy or EzSoy, and if so, what are your comments? I have been thinking about trying these wicks but not too many people seem to use them and I was wondering if there was a reason for it. I use EzSoy a/k/a GB 415. TIA
  25. Hey Everybody! This is my first post here and I just want to chime in. I started buying from Bitter Creek because I am located about 3 hours from them so the shipping time and cost is good but there have been a few fragrances that did not work. I am beginning to think it is just that there are some fragrances that do not work well in soy, no matter where you buy them from and no matter how many different wicks you try. They have hundreds to choose from so I just have been getting the samples and trying them out. If they do not work, on to the next one I go. And by working I mean I light it the next day and the scent is strong enough to fill a mid-sized room. When I first started out making candles I belonged to Candle Wealth International. They never said anything about testing and so I made up a bunch of cinnamon scented candles along with a lot of other scents and off to a craft show I went. Well I was lucky enough that I hardly sold any because when it came time to burn one of those cinnamon ones myself I was in shock that there was no scent. I burned a few others and found a couple other scents that did not work. I am grateful to have found Bitter Creek because they taught me about testing and have guided me in a lot of other things too. I am looking forward to the convention they are having in May so I can check out all the other fragrances without having to buy them all.
