  1. Cutting back on a few lines and fragrances. Focussing a lot on palm and soy candles and getting our packaging to perfection. I have too many lines of candles that do well so it will be hard to ditch them, but no point in having a large selection when you can't keep up with production

  2. Hi Circle. I have heard that some of the EO's are great and some are not. Maybe its just the one we started with, being Lime. I hear citrus are not all that great and we did definitely get that fuel smell when it was buring.

I currently have some Lavendar EO here so may try that one next. Dont have too much choice really as I have to wait till I get paid again in 2 weeks to go out and get some more wax and scents. So frustrating, wanting to create and not having the product to go ahead and do it :)

    Cheers

    Richard

Hi Richard. Lavender is great in 100% soy. Others are may chang, peppermint, mandarin to name a few. Never tried lime, but it is quite a weak EO IMO

  3. Hi Richard. We use 100% EO in palm pillars and soy and use 5%. We have excellent CT and HT and have never had problems with anyone saying that the scent was too weak. When they burn they are to die for and fragrance the whole room (who said EO gave a weaker scent throw!!!) You don't need the exorbatant priced EO to get a good result either. The EO are more expensive but chosen well can not be out of the ball park.

  4. As I have posted in previous posts, this wax is designed to achieve a full melt pool even with a smaller wick. I think it is a flaw with this wax as there is always a melt pool but always a very weak flame 2 hours into the burn. I have tried several size wicks with the same result of weak burn, large melt pool and sometimes drowning. Good luck. I personally have changed my wax.

  5. Thanks for all your help. I don't think it is overwicked as it would drown if I went smaller. I actually don't really like working with CB advanced as I have a lot more troubles than with 415 and C3, but one has to test other products. I am doing as you said, Stella about burning it for less on the first test. I usually burn so they are idiot proof right from the beginning. Very ugly melt pool and definately not from soot, must be FO. I use this FO in paraffin pillars and colour and don't have any issues. I am going to test this FO in C3 and let you know (when I get a gap to do some testing)

    Ta again for your replies

  6. I used to use the maize color chips from Candlescience. Now I have switched most of my colors to EVO colors. I get one called cream from candlewic that gives very similar results as the maize chips. If I use 3 to 4 drops cream it will produce very close to the same color as one color chip in a 9oz soy candle. Here is the link http://www.candlewic.com/store/category.aspx?q=cConcentrated+Liquid+Dyes

Evo colors really cut down on the frosting in soy.

I agree, the Cream from Candlewic is perfect maize colour when you have enough drops in the wax

  7. I wouldn't put out a suggestion box by your candle display, or anywhere else for that matter. That would be very tacky IMO, and I can't imagine that a store owner would want you to do it either.. could be wrong though.

I am completely against consignment, but that's just me. There are too many risks involved for your products. What if someone knocks one off the shelf, and it breaks. Who will be responsible for that? What if one or more of your candles get shop lifted? Then what? Who's responsible? What if someone buys the candle, and then doesn't like it? Complains for whatever reason.. who will deal with that?

I understand though, that desperate times call for desperate measures. Just think it through, and don't get yourself into something that you may regret and find that you've lost money when it's all said and done.

It's also my opinion that most consignment contracts are ridiculous, and not worth the paper they are typed on.. but again, my opinion.

Is there any way that the retail owner would consider buying those candles from you .. maybe just one case to start to see how they sell?

I agree. Consignment has a lot of problems. The shop owner and staff have no inclination to sell your items as they have not paid a cent, secondly they won't care about where they put them and thus they could be tucked away or in the sun etc. You can also get into a situation where you lose track of what the shops have and you lose income. In other words you lose, full stop. Have them buy a small selection and put them all together in one place and see how they go, otherwise give them a miss and move on to those that will buy and appreciate your products
