Forget the vybar unless using very high FO. I agree that the FO can cause the cream discolouration so check first. For a white candle, you need to add white candle dye to the paraffin (Candlewic has a white liquid dye)

Hi Top - I don't really like the smell anyway, which is a good thing!!
-
It could be the pouring temp too. It happens even when the weather is warm, try pouring at 140 and 145. You always need to adjust pouring temp when the surrounding temp is different.

Okay here is my finish taste bottom portions did burn a little hot to the touch so I am thinking of trying an HP 83 see how it's going to burn
the third picture is a baby food jar with Eucalyptus leaf fo from Peaks and it power burning all day

Thanks for your replies, all, sorry for the delay. Stella, I never lidded this creature, should have though as I'm sure it'l bite:shocked2:Yes, it is from a candle fo supplier where I buy most of my fo from. It is called Antique lace. When it was first poured, I knew something was wrong as the one side looked a bit honeycombed. The one pic is after first burn and the other after the second. It looks like there are living creatures in it and the brown just appeared, there is no colour added and the tin is not rusty, it is alluminium and new. Me thinks it is most definately the fo. I sent the pics to the fo supplier and asked for an explanation, but to date all is quiet.............:tiptoe:

Ok, final results are in and I'm abandoning the rest of the test :-)
After 4th burn - image speaks for itself.
After todays 5th burn after 4hrs...
Stella - I have been trimming the wicks before the start of the burn btw :-) What you see is the results after the burn.
Have no idea what that gunky stuff is made of - maybe you guys can clue me in - it's an accumulation of something - the CO..... particles from the wick itself maybe? sooty stuff - though no soot inside jar ?
The CDN burned the jar the cleanest, but much too fast and leaves that residue. Though the jar itself wasn't too hot to the touch - a fraction warmer than the 93.
The 93 didn't do a good job in the middle stages - started off ok, but fizzled - as you can see leaving the hangup on the sides and didn't clean itself higher up either.
I have a new set of testers ready to rest tomorrow. Received some Stearic Acid and used that as an additive and will test with a CND8 and a HTP104 instead.
Not sure if people would like to see the results of my next test, I may be filling up the board with a lot of rubbish :-) but I will if anyone is interested.
PS: Top - I've tested a variety of different wicks in these rotten containers, and am willing to try anything - whether it's mixing the waxes I have, or adding an additive of some type to get them to work. At least now I know that the CO I used, doesn't work and I won't be using it again - so another lesson learned.
I doubt (from my limited experience admittedly, whether I would have had different results had I not added FO with these containers.
There must be a way to wick them correctly, cause I've seen many being sold locally (market stalls etc), or else, they are selling stuff that hasn't really be tested... and many with the FOs I used in this test ... ah well, I'm doing something wrong - and that's where the continual testing will sort out I guess.
Note: Though this was a disaster - I'm happy to say that I have some feathered palm wax pillars & votives completed that look terrific. I'll post those up in a new thread - I'm quite proud of them <lol>
I think you should try wick 2 sizes down. I believe that you should never have a melt pool that is too large, if not at all for the first few burns. As long as the candle burns nicely and there is not much wax left at he bottom, the jar stays cool enough, then it is pretty idiot proof but at the same time gives you a good candle.

You can thank your lucky stars you aren't living in a country where you have free trade agreement with China. Every single gift store, department store, dollar shop etc EVERYWHERE has candles made in China which are not only cheap but toxic Even though our burn times are far beyond what theirs are (Im talking 50 times) there is the mentality in this country for cheap and nasty We use only top quality too. You are lucky that you have high duties on candle imports. Having lived in Europe, it is sure an eye opener when a whole population is trained to buy cheap!!

Remember that everything happens for a reason and now you don't have your job (sorry to hear) you have the ideal opportunity to build your own business and be your own boss, besides you worked hard for someone else, why can't you work hard for yourself and have no boss to answer to!! Horay, heres to your future:yay:

Thanks, Top. I think it is the fo because this is the first time I have tried it and there is no other explanation I can think of

Worlds greatest fresh brewed coffee and creme brule are very good

Like big candle companies saying that soy wax is water soluble????
-
From what I understand, the soybean industry almost universally uses "Roundup-Ready" seed, which is genetically modified to resist the herbicide they spray on the soy crop to kill weeds. Anyone growing organic soybeans is just riding on the coat-tails of Corporate America. Why even support that? We'd be better off if they were growing something unprocessed and healthful that you could buy in the produce section.
Americans aren't the world's biggest appreciators of real food. They're easily manipulated by Agribusiness $$$ to consume whatever crap -- I mean crop -- is currently feeding the factories, running down the conveyor belts or popping out of the extruders or gushing into storage tanks.
Soybeans have no more to do with ecology than does Wonder Bread or Cheerios. Is Crisco oil some kind of "green" product, or the stuff they dunk french fries into at the local fast food joint? Frankly, anyone who thinks they're making a green candle is some kind of propaganda-addled zombie, unless maybe they specialize in beeswax or bayberry.
It is all about the money and the power. This is proven in the high statistics of obesity, cancer, death etc which was not around 100 years ago when things were plain and simple. A simple example is the quote "98% fat free" but nowhere does it mention that the sugar content is 50% which becomes fat anway!!
-
Why are you so concerned about gmo wax? You are not eating it so why worry if it is genetically modified? How many people eat seedless grapes for example and this is food? Don't you think they are genetically modified, since when has a grape not had seeds as a natural thing??Stella, do you know of any source of vegetable wax that is made from organic crop (the wax doesn't have to be, I don't care for the marketing aspect, but I do care if the crop was grown in a least harmful way for this planet), or at least not genetically modified? As I mentioned in my post above, I suspect Ecosoya could be using gmo crop, but I am waiting for them to confirm that. I will post when / if I hear from them. Does anyone know about some wax from eco-friendly farmed crops? -
Very nice

Well the fact that soy cleans up with soap and water is nice...i dont think you can really make the claim that it puts out less toxins...read the study that is linked by Top above. They showed that the toxins released by paraffin, soy, palm, etc were almost identical and well below the strictest indoor air quality guidelines they could find. The study was funded by several different organizations and does not seem biased. This was from 2007. As far as "natural"...i don't know about that. I read there is quite a "chemical" process to actually make wax from soy beans. That being said...everyone has their own preferance and opinions...we are all here to learn and grow...I have learned so much here.
Jamie
Have you ever compared your roast lamb to the cleanup of a soy candle? It is certainely not water soluble because when the substances are cold the wax forms on top of the wax. I really cant understand why companies say that soy wax is water soluble when it clearly is NOT

Paraffin wax comes in various grades. Fully refined is good and burns very nicely. There is a hype about paraffin wax but there is nothing wrong with it if it is good grade. Makes very nice candles
-
Candlewic have dyes that hve no fragrance
-
Also try Taylored Concepts
-
Stunning. Do they take long to make?
-
How long does it take to wick these up?
-
Not complaining about the $$$,,, Just the wicking!! LOL
Seeing the boxes sitting in the garage, piled high, needing to be wicked puts me in a panic!!!
I do have some helpers, like the DH is wicking today so I can pour.
How many are you able to wick up yourself without any help? How many of those boxes would you get through in a normal working day? NOT our kind of working day which includes eating lunch while working, starting and ending late in the day, etc

The supplier that top mentioned has instructions on basic candlemaking tiips as well, I think

I agree with you Top, much nicer to have a proper wick, also less danger.
